Free Treestand Safety Harnesses
Fletch replied to WNYBuckHunter's topic in Hunting Items For Sale and Trade
I just picked up a new stand and have another new one in the bag in Onondaga County, I will even cover the shipping if it will keep you from elevated hunting without one! -
Welcome!! That area has a very high deer population and gives out excess tags every year. Montezuma has a lot of area and is public. It does have a sign in policy. Get online on the DEC webpage and you can find public land opportunities.

The stuff for my Lifetime mailed to me was in camo, my doe permits and non lifetime ML are in last years yellow. Dicks said the camo would not print for them.

Fletch is in! TY -
Finally got more info the deer was 167" plus change so not as big as thought. Only pic is with guy in it and I do not know him to post it. It was taken 3 years ago! Man stories get twisted! He also took a 12 point last year looks to be 130ish I think in same area. I have been hearing of some good bucks on cam this year as well.

So I get a call yesterday from my BIL. He heard two very interesting stories. Both about big bucks taken last season from right next to two areas we hunt. One was on the property adjacent to the "hole" I hunt a guy took a 7.5 year old buck dressed out 224 pounds, rack was on the downslide. Another is property right across from the inlaws about a bow killed buck that will make the top 10 for the state. I am waiting for a pic of that one and will post it when I get it this weekend when I see my BIL. You never know how close a Bruiser may actually be!!

How is this ammo? I have picked up about 6 boxes of it at Dicks the last couple weeks. Have not tried it yet. Also now we get 40 round boxes!

Hmm out back around 30 acres, I box blind, 2 ladder and one hang on and a ground blind under that hanger for the old man in gun. Just me usually and then my brother and Dad a couple days. Prop 2 - 35 acres or so, 3 ladder stands just 2 of us hunt there mostly. Other couple of properties or state we use climbers or brush blinds in gun.

In the woods I have dragged more deer more miles than I would care to count!! lol It is a good happy drag though one day I dragged over 6 hours!! Probably dragged close to 100 deer and only a couple used a 4 wheeler. Once outa the woods if at home across the lawn and up the tree if cool if not into the old 6 foot beer cooler in the garage. Not at home it goes in the pickup bed. These days I would be concerned about ticks in the car. I have them drop off in the bed of the truck so would in the car too. Now the old days!! the 80s and 90s we put a lot of deer on the top of cars and blazers and such. I remember opening week southern zone the hunters on 81 going back north you would see a hundred cars with deer on the roof no problem. If I did not have a truck it would be on the trunk lid not in. We never had blood running all over either?? We gutted rinsed and wiped out the deer and they may of hung a few hours.

I find no harm in it. If you do not want to do it don't. My kids have done it and now they actually know what ALS is or Lou Gehrig's Disease is. It certainly has been super for the ALS group as the donations have exceeded anything prior by leaps and bounds. I personally do not donate to them I have a couple other charities that top my list just because they are closer to home for me.

Is Cuomo running unopposed?
Fletch replied to Doc's topic in Gun and Hunting Laws and Politics Discussions
That is the problem. We live in a state that has more people voting that are happy with Dandy Andy than not. For as long as I have been alive this state has almost always voted in someone I did not vote for and most likely you as well. Too many Democratic NYC folks. If Astorino wants to win he needs to find another state or hope Andy gets hit by a bus. Hey we figured out how to put that Clinton dip in office and she was not even a resident!! lol -
22 mag and 7mm08 or 280 6.8 hmm

Doc my thoughts exactly. The old system worked great. I guess Brainstorm Andy decided it needed to get replaced because it did not tie in/ talk to the other government systems? So millions spent that did not need to but hey that is all government is good for.

Need a new backpack
Fletch replied to Waldershrek's topic in Hunting Gear Reviews and Gear Discussions
I bit the bullet over the last couple of years after cheap pack blowouts, rips, zipper issues..... I now own two different sized Badlands packs and have not been disappointed. Guaranteed for life for whatever reason. -
got mine yesterday in the mail. Funky feeling material. No wonder they are having printing issues. Probably not cheap either!

I am in good shape. Getting down but will make it into bow. Getting stocked up with some fish. Did pull out my last 15 pounds of stew to grind up with some pork butt to make pepperoni this week.

What seems weird though if all are on the DEC site then Central NY has 4 classes through Oct? That is sad. I will check Gander see if they have anything.

Was hoping some of you might have some ideas. I have a son who turned 12 a few weeks ago and I started looking into safety courses so he can hunt this fall. What I discovered is man I shoulda started looking a lot sooner. I would prefer just to do the bow and regular all in one with the pre online or workbook study. So I tried the DEC site and there are like 2 classes within 50 miles of me and both were full. Anyone have any ideas where any other lists of classes may be listed? The few on the DEC site cannot be all for the whole state, if so that is pretty bad. When I did mine there were classes all over so I did not really think it would be an issue. The only option is driving 100 miles down south and get a hotel to take a course for two days! By the way I am just outside of Syracuse. Thanks for any ideas.

We have an eagles nest down the road at the town park and about 400 yards from that on one of the ballfield light towers is an Ospreys nest. I watched them all spring during baseball games and practice for my son. One day one of the ospreys was razing the eagles nest doing flyovers for about 20 minutes. Pretty cool. They fly back and forth to the river catching fish and carrying them back. Just beautiful birds!

I bet a lot of people would. Cheaper than most of the country, absolutely beautiful, and as well as one of the safest place from natural disasters. I would rather have my own to do what I want on it not public. The deer population is not near as bad as you seem to think and can certainly be improved upon. And if I had 2.2 million dollars I could go anywhere to shoot does my little heart desired!! And the taxes are the same as my current house and 12 acres downstate!!!
