  1. Way to go!! That sounds good, maple sausage and italian sausage mmmmmmm.
  2. I will answer this question as if you asked besides your clothing, boots and weapon what is the most important item you take. I tie with safety harness and cell for safety. But it all depends where I am hunting.
  3. 11/4 pm 53 d Well I did drag out a 12 footer! X=mas tree that is. Got out behind the inlaws for last watch with my BIL. Did a bit of still hunting trying to kick him one with the temp so high. A swing and a miss. I am actually going to sleep in tomorrow for the first time in weeks!!
  4. 11/4 am 32 d Out behing the house for a while with the old man. Real quiet morning no sightings. Bro and BIL hunted behind the inlaws and had no luck either.
  5. That is one of the reasons I love hunting!! That sure as heck won't happen in front of the x-box!! Thanks for sharing!
  6. I used to do PA Elk draw but let that lapse. I now do the Vermont Moose. I have not been picked yet but it does run on a pref point so if I apply forever..who knows.
  7. Yes it is a 20 gauge Ithica. I hit a bit low on shot one but it was a killing shot. A few inches higher and she would have gone down there. I am just in the habit of making it hit the ground, I hunt a lot of public land and if it goes over a hill somebody else shoots it. I quit the 12 a long time ago.
  8. Thanks Burt. I think out of over 30 deer seen since bow opened this is like the 3rd or 4th doe. And only the second to offer a shot. The first I missed with the bow but we are trying to forget that day!! All the rest bucks, buttons and doe fawns.
  9. I wish that all the people that really need get their wishes filled. I wish the relatives would leave more leftovers of the monster prime rib I always cook for Christmas Dinner!! I wish Christmas did not mark that deer season has been officially closed for the past 5 days and will not reopen until next October. Ok and I wish for some of that 8 year old cheddar I love from Jewitts and Beers of the World is like heaven!!!
  10. Nice and a good price. It runs about 60 around here without the plack!
  11. Taken this morning with shotgun.
  12. lol, I just love those days. You get out and set up and then one thing after another. Funny though most times it seems the deer do not even care. Places like farms and suburbs where they are used to activity.
  13. 12/2 am 29 d Out behind the house again this am in my favorite ladder stand by 6:30 am. At 7:20 I have two come in from my right and cut behind me. I stand up and get turned around and see it is a doe and a fawn. They are angling away behind me at about 50 to 60 yards. The bigger one is in front and walking. When she hits an opening I fire and she kicks and takes off running. I got on her when she hit another opening and shot and hit her again. She then stopped behind some trees at about 70 yards. I saw her head and neck pop out and got a solid rest and shot again hitting her in the neck and she dropped. After checking her out I hit low shoulder first shot, Just behind the diaphram on the second running shot and 3rd shot in the neck. She was dead after the first shot but in gun season I want her down before she gets in front of someone else!! I think she is 1.5 years seeing she hit the scales at 102 pounds dressed. Should be some good eating. And certainly makes the freezer situation look a lot better. Now to get the muzzleloader out.
  14. 12/1 am 25 d Out back for 1.5 no sightings. My Dad was out as well and he was out for over 4 hours and nothing. pm 44 d I went back out tonight for the last hour or so. Had one moving at a pretty good pce flash by about 250 yards out just before dark. No idea what it was I only saw it for a second.
  15. We will have to start calling you the Guide!! Congratz to your son on the doe! Burt figures you are calling a day to not miss Saturday and I can not hunt. Been out at least some of every day of gun so far!!
  16. I have taken quite a few over the past few years and never really noticed them stinking too bad. Now skinning one out may be another story!! I let the taxi do that! Or a trapper down the road.
  17. Beautiful buck and taken legally from what DEC says so I have no issue with that. I would not be to proud if the deer is tame and hand fed. But that is just rumor and it is also illegal to feed deer! I hunt the burbs and the deer I hunt are definetly not tame! They are wary and wiley. I will most likely never know the "whole" story but I would like to think he did it right. And the buck was not partially tame and he did not take two prior bucks....... None of that is proven. The I know someone who has a cousin who milked a cow belonging to this dude who said.....You do not know what to believe. I do know if I am ever blessed to shoot a massive whitetail I hope I have a camerman with me to document time of day, place, weapon... to prove legal so you do not get all this craziness...
  18. 11/30 am 44 d Out behind the house for 1.5 hours. Rained most of the night. Man it is wet and muddy!! In the stand by 6:30am and at about 6:50 had one cross right in front of me at 50 yards. It was still pretty dark and I could not even tell what it was. It looked secent sized and I am pretty sure it was a buck. I canned and grunted. he would stop and listen but not hang around. That was it.
  19. I take the front legs and put them up in between the ears. I have a pull strap about 1 inch wide and it goes around deer neck and front legs and put it around my shoulders. Easiest way for me to drag if I have to do it by hand.
  20. 12/29 am 53 d Out behind the house for a while. Man it is warm! 53 degrees at 6am. Nothing on watch I did jump one out of the woodlot coming out so one was moving. Not sure what it was.
  21. Down with the yoters!! Don't feel bad I shot one 5 times a few years ago! Hit it 4 times. they are tough!!

    The Drag

If you have a lot of deer on that hill you could persuade me to go hunt with ya and drag for you!!
  23. I gotta ask is he mounting the balls!! lol Also gotta add that there is nothing wrong with some deer drives when done with safe hunters. I started hunting in the Adirondacks and they still hunted and drove deer. They looked at you like you were retarded if you told them you were sitting in a treestand all day. To each there own. I enjoy still hunting, sitting on watch, spot and stalk and drives.
