  1. I think I have tried every gimmick out there. Nose Jammer is one that I have tried. I never had any luck with it...I tried it for a season a few years ago. Evercalm is the only thing out of the million things I have tried that I think there is something too....
  2. Great work! I don't know anything about dog tracking...Is there a reason you can't bring them both on a track? Would they interrupt each other?
  3. Welcome and congrats!!!
  4. My experience with Mature bucks is very limited. I have killed the two I have seen. One a little after 4PM and last years 9pt around 9am. I can't ever think of a time I have ever seen any deer between 10am and 2pm and I don't think I have. Then again I don't sit all day very often. Maybe 3 times per year.
  5. Awesome, can't believe you have never hunted him before now....good luck. can't wait to see pics...
  6. I don't reuse them....This is my 5th year bow hunting. So far I have shot a Doe, a 5 pt and a coyote. The cost of 3 heads over 5 seasons is minimal. I still have them and they look fine but I just want to be sure.....
  7. I don't think I got two hours of sleep last night. Slept terrible. Left my house in 5R at 5am. Not a breath of wind. Got to my hunting spot in 4K and the wind is blowing like crazy. Nothing moving at all so far. Going to stick it out a couple of hours. Good luck everyone!
  8. Well, I am 44.....and like others have said, some days act 18....Other days feel 60
  9. Like a lot of people have mentioned mine is on my backpack. Figure that is on my back anytime I am walking. Although the last weekend of rifle we always do deer drives and my pack always winds up in my truck since I am not carrying anything and I never remember to take it off my pack. So far that has never been a problem....
  10. My main stand is a large two man ladderstand with comfy sling back chairs. I have taken a nap a time or two in that stand. Being used to that stand when I sit in another one I am usually to uncomfortable to sleep. I am very guilty of playing or reading on my phone on the stand. I have to bring a portable charger I use it so much. I also have found that I sleep in the stand a lot less since having a "smart phone" so I guess sort of paying attention is a lot better than sleeping. Before having access to almost anything via my phone, I used to wonder how many deer I missed when I woke up from my naps...
  11. Looks really nice....I have so many projects I want to tackle. I don't know where to start so nothing gets done...
  12. Here is to a speedy recovery! Poor little guy
  13. So young...God bless you and your friend....may the memories you have shared last forever!
  14. Officially magic hour...someone let the deer know
  15. Well...back in till dark. It is hot out...they have to move at some point....right?
  16. Well the rain stopped...had a 3pt walk straight across in front of me @ 20 yds about 20 min ago...wheres your daddy?
  17. Well...warm and windy...now it's pooring...who said you can't kill them from the couch...oh it was me duhhhh
  18. 73 degrees and windy at first light here in 4k. I don't have hunting apparel lighter than what I am wearing and I am still warm. Good luck to all the youth hunters out there this morning. Knock one down!
  19. Nothing moving in 4k this am. Even the squirrels are quiet. I don't think I have ever dressed this light for a morning sit and I am still to warm. Gonna try some light rattles and see if I can make something happen
  20. Well it just became legal light and it seems just as dark as it did at 6:15 when I got in the tree. Warm and humid about 60 degrees. Don't ever remember listening to tree frogs in the stand before. This weather is crazy. Good luck everyone
  21. Lol, I go the other way....Otherwise my hunting buddies will be sitting in my stand when im not there....
  22. Its early. You might want to get in there and find a spot you can observe from even if it isn't the most likely place to harvest. That way you can see first hand what is going on. I would probably try that before still hunting through it all. That's just my opinion...others my vary
  23. I think, you can't harvest a deer while still in bed or sitting on the couch. If I don't have to work and I can be in the woods. I am in the woods...
  24. For me, I have changed as I have gotten older. Flame suit on, when I was younger I would blast away at any deer I saw. Nobody should hunt the way I did when I was 16-20 maybe even a little older. Then I got older and wiser and got a couple young bucks under my belt. After I shot my 8 pointer which took a lot of years in the woods, I had no desire to shoot little spikes or forkhorns. My standards changed, I guess I felt like I would be going backward. I enjoy every encounter now with those little guys and hope they will be around next year. If I get a shot at a large doe I may or may not take the shot for meat. If she has young ones with her she will always get a pass. For me to shoot a buck I would have to feel like it is a trophy to me...(not to anyone else) What that standard is depends on my weapon, time spent in the woods etc. I would probably shoot a 6 pt with my bow, with my crossbow for sure since I have yet to harvest a deer with a crossbow. But that same deer might get a pass with my rifle. I guess I never really have a standard in mind until I see a deer and decide whether that deer is going to be a trophy to me on that day.
  25. If drinking coffee makes you enjoy hunting more....then drink coffee!
