Welcome, quite a resume.....I look forward to reading your contributions....

Congrats on the new member of the family. Enjoy the puppy stage. It goes fast....
-
He was chasing Doe all over the place. I also think the flash on my phone made the white really stand out. I went home and looked at it and couldn't decide.

A lot of people love the sniper 370...I have never shot one.....I can guarantee two things.....It will kill deer and you can't beat free....

Wicked Ridge has some interesting new bows coming out for 2020. As far as I know, nobody else has released their 2020 bows yet. As far as being NY compliant....you will have to go look or email and ask questions (which is what I have been doing). Crossbow Nation is a good forum with a lot of info and the people there seem willing to answer any questions and Archery talk has a crossbow section that has some good info as well. Problem is nobody lists the width of their crossbow, they all list axle to axle and some only list it when cocked because they want only the most narrow spec published.

NYslowhand gave a lot of good advice. The only thing I can add is, I bought an elcheapo (Barnett Gamecrusher) when crossbows became legal in NY. And like he said, I had to ditch the terrible scope before I even hunted with it, it was so bad making my elcheapo less cheapo. Now I have a nice piece of Nikon Glass on an elcheapo crossbow and I really wish I just purchased a much better crossbow. The stupid 17" width rule makes the choices much harder since most of the new bows are much more narrow. So now I am reading everything I can about crossbows because I would like to purchase a new one before next hunting season. So I guess if I was you I would do the same thing. Start reading, there are so many different options out there, I have no idea what to do. The Scorpyd is probably the nicest, fastest and by far the most expensive crossbow out there. Basically I am weighing my options against that $1600 dollar model (for a bare bow) and trying to decide if spending that money is worth it.

Beautiful, If I ever am lucky enough to kill another wall hanger, I will be taking a long ride....

You know I have never really paid attention to that. Here is the pic I have of that deer on my computer. I mentioned that I was extremely happy with the 8 pt mount and went back for the 9 pt the following year and have never been as happy with it. I actually colored in around the eyes a little more with a furniture marker because I thought they looked weird. It still looks weird to me and maybe this is why. The 8pt was amazing to me...right down to the dew droplets on his whiskers around his mouth. Maybe it will look better to me if I color those nostrils in. I have not been able to pin point why I don't like the mount as much. Just doesn't seem anywhere near as natural to me.... I also think his neck it too small.....

Happy Birthday!!! Hope you have a great day and a much better 2020!

Here is the 9pt in my avatar. Done by the same guy. Also took 10 months.
-
Wow, this is an old thread. Yes, I got it back. Took about 10 months....I got the 9 pt in my avatar the following year and got that mounted as well. Took about the same time. I feel like this 8 pt came out a lot better than the 9pt and both were done by the same guy. I don't have a pic of the 9pt once mounted....

When I first started Deer hunting much of NY was shotgun only. I hunted with Remington 870 12ga that my dad got me for Christmas the Christmas before I was turning 16 and would be able to deer hunt. I still hate that gun. I was probably 5'4" or 5'5" and weighed less than 150 lbs when I turned 16. I developed a terrible flinch that I still fight to this day. One of the guys in camp had that same Browning shotgun and I wanted one so bad. I now hunt with my Browning BAR .308 and I love that rifle. I could shoot it all day if I could afford to put that much ammo through it. I am not sure what I would do if I had to switch back to toting a shotgun....Maybe buy a 20ga or switch over to ML. Lots of deer have fallen to slugs in NY for sure.....

Way to go Crappy! That was great to read this morning......What's the countdown too Oct 1st? -
So sorry for your loss First Light. I can't read posts like this without tears coming to my eyes.

Yup, we are practically neighbors. I walk my dog in that Nature Preserve all the time. It is literally right around the corner. My house is actually right behind Ballston Spa National Bank on Roland Street but to get out of my neighborhood I have to go too Geyser Rd. I know nothing about the 4-H Shooting sports but I am always interested in shooting. I certainly wouldn't mind hearing about what it has to offer. Maybe after the Holidays we can grab a beer, or coffee. I would love to hear about hunting in IL. You know we think there is a Giant buck hidden behind every tree in those western states.
-
Welcome, I live just off Geyser Rd so we can't be more than a few minutes from eachother….Where in Bspa do you live? I was going to say sorry that you moved to NY with our ridiculous politics but I don't think Illinois is much better. My wife travels to Bloomington for work all the time. She will be back there week after next.

Happy Birthday Wooly!!!

Sounds like I am a day late but Happy Belated Birthday!!!

Mine has that as well. Are you sure yours doesn't NFA ADK?

I don't think so....I think the IBO on my bow is 303 or 305 if I remember correctly. I am sure I am not anywhere near that with a wimpy 26" draw. (yes I am short) I have never chronoed my bow but I wouldn't be surprised if it was less than that.....

Make the site so the slide is at the bottom or the site is all the way up and site in at 20 yds and mark it on the slide. Then slide the slide up (making the site move down) and find thirty yards and mark that on the slide. Same for 40,50 etc however far you want to shoot. Then you find the tape that corresponds to the marked yardages you made on the slide which should make all the other yardages correct. If I was going to site in again I would get rid of the tape and just mark 25 and 35 yds on the slide and not have a tape. I have that site and once I got it set I have never moved it off 25 yds....Hope this helps, I think you will love it when you get it all set.... Your first picture is your site in the lowest yardage (your site is at its highest) Your second picture is your site set at the highest yardage (your site is at its lowest)

Not a lot of good options but I would just take the best one I can. Then you can sell it and put that money toward optics to fit your platform..From what I have seen scopes usually sell quite easily....

Made another one. Actually like the first one better.

I didn't keep track of my time. If I had to guess I would say 3 hours taking out the time for the plaster to dry but it might be less. I am sure it will take less time now that I have some idea what I am doing.
