  1. They're predicting 40 mph gusts today, and rain. I'm going out anyway....last day of the season here in the nz.
  2. 1. I need to plant bushes, native warm season grasses....anything to help hide my stands entry/exit routes. Got busted WAY too many times. 2. I already knew this, but it was reinforced this season. Your season can turn around in a matter of moments!!
  3. I missed this story the first time around. What a great story. Awesome!
  4. I think the colder the better for deer movement, especially around a food source. I will admit to getting tired of freezing for too many years, and now have a heater in my blind.
  5. I've got a feeling you're going to get a day or two of ml in. Get better soon!
  6. I haven't been out in a week and half, since I filled my dmp. Hopefully, the deer have relaxed a little bit now. Good luck out there everyone!
  7. I remember learning this rule, but like Bubba said, I hear three shots all the time. Bubba - what do you mean by "firing a couple warning shots to alert the animal they are after them"?
  8. Wow! Beautiful cabins! Way to break that in with great bucks!! Congrats!!
  9. NYDEER - Did you write that, or find it somewhere? If you wrote it, well done! I believe we should be logging state lands. They are a huge source of funds that are being neglected due to a bunch of treehuggers that don't understand when done right, logging is actually good for the health of a forest and the animals living there.
  10. Nice buck.....couple more years and he'll be a bruiser!
  11. The cameras are definitely addicting. I run three of them, and constantly have to fight the urge to go swap cards. I was going to do that today, but let common sense prevail. I've been waiting for late muzzleloader and haven't been out there in a week and a half....why go out there with only a couple days to go until I can hunt again? I usually pull them in the winter and put them back out in the Spring.
  12. I'm enrolled in WHIP (wildlife habitat improvement program), through the NRCS. They bought me some native warm season grasses. Also, I'm in Partners for Fish & Wildlife. They dug 8 duck ponds for me, put in a water control structure, and gave me 50 lbs of switchgrass and wildflower seed to plant around the ponds. The only stipulation is I can't fill them in for ten years. NWTF gave me a bag of corn this Spring. You have to promise to leave it standing for the wildlife , plus sign a form saying you won't sell it.
  13. They are imo, definitely smart. The older they get, the smarter they get. I believe their memories serve them well in remembering threats. Hearing someone walking in leave 1000 yards away? No way.
  14. I think it depends on where you live. Around here, participation still is high. I watch truck after truck drive into the public land across the road from me. A few weekends ago there was a drive over there with 28 hunters!
  15. Wow, did they ever get hammered!
  16. Great story...thanks for taking the time to write it. Absolutely beautiful buck!! Congrats!!
  17. I'm really hoping we get some snow on the ground here soon. Maybe over the next few days, just in time for late muzzleloader.
  18. Excellent story.....you'll never forget your first buck. Congratulations!!
  19. Nice buck....great mass! Thanks for sharing the story. Sorry about your Brother-in-Law.
