rubber boot recomendations
132 eight pointer replied to loworange88's topic in Hunting Gear Reviews and Gear Discussions
Just ordered a pair of the Trappers from Shoe.com for $70.00 and free shipping. $30 off. If you guys are as good at picking boots as you are at killing deer I should be very happy. -
Standard Transmissions...How many can operate one ??
132 eight pointer replied to Pygmy's topic in General Chit Chat
It's been years but I learned to drive a 20 foot box truck 2 weeks before my 18th birthday.Cab over engine so it wasn't too bad when there was no ice on the roads. Had a 78 short bed Dodge, slant 6, 3 on the tree, drove that for several years starting in 1982 I think. I like my auto transmission now though. -
Traditional Sicilian Xmas cookies
132 eight pointer replied to NYBowhunter's topic in Game Recipes / Cooking
Love fig cookies. My grandmother used to make and now my mother does make, a similar looking Christmas season cookie with an apple filling. -
Public land almost always now but even when I hunted private property I always had orange vest and hat on.If I see orange I steer clear of that person out of common courtesy and safety and I hope others do the same for me but that is not always the case.

Yes sir I have had the dreaded leg cramps after hunting. Dehydration and certain vitamin/mineral deficiencies can contribute to muscle fatigue cramps I read on line.I try and drink plenty of water and be careful how long I sit after hunting so my legs don't cramp up. Congratulations on the double doe day.

Opening morning 10 ish my cousin more than likely pushed 2 doe to me. Marlin Slugmaster 12GA. Winchester BRI slug at 50-55 yds. State land in 8N. May be the biggest doe I have ever killed. My bow season doe was big, this one was bigger. Only saw one buck all bow season so full figured doe are cool too.- 38 replies

It looks like a fairly clean cut on where the hide starts around the opening. That is crazy. poor guy. I am wondering if farm equipment or who knows what could have sliced that like that ? I suppose a flesh disease is a possibility too but why the outline like that. Very strange.

Question For The Successful Hunters So Far
132 eight pointer replied to SportsmanNH's topic in Bow Hunting
Did not see any ticks on doe from 8M,Jet Sled or truck used to haul deer. However I dropped the deer off to a processor a few hours later so ticks may not have started to leave the deer yet.Last spring in Letchworth Park I had about 10 small ticks on my pants after walking through a brushy area. Useless creatures ticks are. -
The Hunting Gods were kind again yesterday evening.I asked for the JetSled last Christmas and my wonderful kids gave it to me. I thought it was great hauling the doe to my truck ! I did put one of those padded large carabiners on the rope to save my hand from rope burn.Flat ground and a logging trail so not sure how this would be pulling uphill. Happy to have the venison. Good luck everyone and stay safe.(Sorry for the crappy picture).

My father who will turn 80 this week is being treated for a mass in his lower esophagus. We are fortunate in the Rochester area that there are many experienced healthcare professionals and facilities. Best wishes to Ana,you and your families.

Hey leave some for the rest of us GEEZ. Sat out on the West side for 5 hrs. in the afternoon on opening day of firearm season.Lots of tracks, beds and leaves turned over in the snow but neither my buddy or I saw any deer . Not much shooting I was surprised. I should be back there a couple more times before the end of this season so it aint over just yet. Congrats to all of you .

Hunted there this weekend. 3 of us saw deer but none taken.I had a nice buck walking behind me but I couldn't turn around and shoot with the tree I was attached to between us and it was about max range for me.Had nice weather after Thursday.

Oct.5,first time out this year.Climbed a tree on State land I was up and loving the cool calm conditions by 7 a.m..About 8 I notice movement out about 50 yds., Small deer. Oh there is another one,and another, and another and so on until 5 doe were moving toward me.2 mature and 3 fawns I believe. No shot at the biggest so the 2nd biggest would have to do.Probably 15 yds. I make a lousy shot too far back. I don't believe the arrow hit a branch it looked clear.Did the deer start to move, not sure.Did I pull the shot ? Could be.(yes I do practice shooting my bow) Climbed down and found a broken arrow and a great blood trail.Followed that slowly for 100 yds. or less and found her dead in a nice clear area of pine trees. So I got lucky and hit an artery and ended up filling a DMP the earliest I ever have.I had 2 DMPs last year that went unfilled so this is nice.

Hunted Letchworth with 2 others Thursday-Sunday. the weather sucked Thurs. and was windy Saturday. Friday was o.k. and Sunday morning was perfect weather. I spent 12 hours in a tree total and saw zero deer.My buddy did the same and saw zero deer. The other friend of ours saw 1 buck and 2 doe. I am disappointed but that is the way it goes.Better luck next time.
