  1. I didn't know that happened. That was in the South end which was closed to hunting for a long time.I still don't agree with using "sharpshooters".
  2. I agree,If there was a deer shoot I know a few people that will be unhappy including myself. That picture is from that end of the park by the RGE station.
  3. I saw herds of deer last winter in the fields just outside of the MT . Morris end of the park.Although most hunters agree the numbers are down I would be astonished if anyone was hired to shoot deer by the state.Overhunted possibly .
  4. I saw two tails doing 60 mph through the woods today. First deer I have seen since bow season.
  5. I just saw this, I hope to use those arrows with the recurve next year.winter project is to re-fletch them. Happy Thanksgiving.
  6. http://gandermountain.shoplocal.com/gandermountain/Default.aspx?action=browsepagedetail&storeid=2401008&rapid=1309905&pagenumber=10&listingid=-2082008764 I don't know if this is available everywhere but if you can get one this is a hell of a deal.
  7. a few weeks ago I went hunting for a weekend and forgot my unscented soap.Friend of mine said he had some of the hotel shampoo in the small bottles.I opened it and it smelled like perfume so I asked if he was kidding me.He said he doesn't care about unscented soap or cover scents.I went and bought some "hunters" soap.Well he saw more bucks than I did.Now he was in a treestand and could have just been lucky,I don't know.
  8. If you think you were right not to shoot then you were. If you are using a firearm as I assume you are , you may be able to take a quartering away shot if you can put the round behind the shoulder.I don't know how far away the deer has been.Remember to aim for the opposite shoulder, not too high. I would want the deer to be stopped not moving if possible. Again it comes down to your confidence. If you are not confident taking the shot then you are correct not to.No one wants to wound and possibly lose a deer.At least not ethical hunters.Hope that might help.I think the perfect shot is broadside to answer that part.Good luck.
  9. On the atvs , if you or someone you know is familiar with them you can get good deals on Craigslist. My cousin has bought several used and had good luck with them.
  10. I can't believe how many squirrels I have had around me this week while deer hunting. One yesterday I thought was going to jump on me from a big fallen dead tree I was sitting next to. Made it difficult to sit still.
  11. That's amazing. I wouldn't have thought those things could happen.I see how it could though.Another example of just how tough they really are.
  12. Funny how those types never offer to help pay the property taxes !
  13. I didn't mean to imply I thought you were wrong New York hillbilly. My grandfather had a small farm once and one of the locals told us he didn't care about posted signs he hunts everywhere. He always wanted to know what we shot and he didn't wan't people on his property. It could be locals.
  14. Yes, be careful going in to that wet g spot. You don't want to slip and throw a back out or anything.
  15. Fourseason, on the archery permit it says archery hunting allowed in archery only areas during the reg. season. I just looked at it again.:]
  16. If the Park Police say you can, that would be alright with me.You could call the Park office and ask.Tags should be Reg season buck taken with a bow, or any 8m dmp you might have. You can't use bow/mz tags until the late season. The hunting law/regulations guide on pg 26 shows what tag can be used when.
  17. The town I live in started allowing bowhunting on town land (forever wild) to try and reduce the number of vehicle/deer colissions several years ago.I was told by the town parks employees that the first year a couple guys from about 45 minutes away, vandalized hunters vehicles.Could very well be anti-hunters.
  18. A bowhunter was talking about hunting the campgrounds with bow during shotgun season but I didn't know if he was correct. It used to be you would be arrested if you were in the archery only areas during the regular season. (Or ticketed).Hmm might be worth a try.
  19. Congratulations Wooly. Next time you go hunting could you fix the economy ?
  20. Good thing it wasn't an estrus wafer !
