  1. It's nice to have such a positive-thinking patriot on board. Where do you live, and how much do you weigh?
  2. A Reuters/IPSOS poll came out early today claiming that "most Americans" favor further gun control legislation. Their tally was 50% in favor. Considering how they do polling it's not really a stretch that they would consider that to be "most Americans". They've pulled the story from most news feeds. ;-]
  3. My very wealthy second cousin just left me 2.5 million dollars. I will be delighted to give you half.....
  4. It's supposed to be up to the individual States to determine how their land will be used according to the citizens of the respective States. The People control the States, and the States control the Federal Government. I know that a lot of you are old enough to remember that basic premise, but the entire concept has been turned upside down. And no, the People are not the Federal Government, and the government is not the people. This is the mantra of China, North Korea, and North Viet Nam.
  5. They were sentenced, and served the court mandated sentences, and were subsequently sentenced again for the same crime(s). A first year law student could have had that decision thrown out. The Hammonds accepted it. Hmmm. The town/county/state should have handled the issue from the start.
  6. The Federal Government selling exploration rights to China for their solar or wind energy 'exploration' is fine. The Federal Government selling it to someone in congress, who will in turn sell it to China, or somehow develop it for their own personal gain is fine. But a private individual owning the land is somehow considered a threat. Got it.
  7. The Hammonds were arrested, tried, convicted, and served their sentences. After their release the Federal government decided the Hammonds were still a nuisance and had one of their federally-appointed judges re-incarcerate them for that same crime. Nothing new as far as charges or evidence. No new trial. A Federal judge simply said, "You're going back to jail." Why the Hammonds would ever agree to that is a mystery and I won't speculate here. I disagree with Ammon Bundy's methods in this case but I do believe in the message: The power of the Federal Government has to be kept in check, even if the victims are coerced into believing otherwise. And no, the Federal Government is not the People.
  8. I love Asiago cheese, but it can be a little overpowering in a recipe. Grate it very fine and use it in a small dish as a dipping condiment. A little too much on one bite can be offset by none on the next bite, and the overall flavor isn't much different than having it cooked in the recipe.
  9. It's part of the entitlement mentality. People move to the suburbs and exurbs, at least partly, to be 'closer to nature'. But they fully expect that nature will abide by their terms. They only want to get rid of the deer that browse on their carefully cultivated plantings, and the ones that insist on jumping in front of their cars. They enjoy watching the rest of the deer, much like they enjoy their electric fireplaces.
  10. A lot of my memories from the 1970's have a Ziggy Stardust soundtrack. I have a sudden craving for a can of Schlitz and a desire to build a pull-tab curtain.
  11. I remember the Butcher catalogs quite well. Sitting around with my trapping buddies when we were kids, putting together a 'massive' $25 order... ;-] Thanks for the memory Pygmy!
  12. He succumbed to cancer at the age of 69.
  13. A big GTG would be great! Anyone's welcome at my house, but you kids better stay off my lawn. ;-]
  14. 10 square miles known as Washington DC, and military installations necessary to the protection of the nation. That's all the land the federal government is allowed to "own" per the Constitution. They are allowed by the various states to manage certain parcels of state-owned land. They manage them as national parks, preserves, monuments, etc for the benefit of the citizens. The federal government does not own those places, and they sure as hell don't own grassland or water rights in the western part of our Republic.
  15. The federal government can not own land. That's part of the Constitution. They have power to control certain parcels of land deemed necessary to the protection of the Republic. Military installations.
  16. I found a can of something tonight and mixed it with crackers. It wasn't good but... Venison stew in the crock pot tomorrow!
  17. Somebody should be along shortly who can help you with this. Welcome aboard BTW! There's a section here for site feedback and questions as well.
  18. Someone convicted of a violent crime shouldn't be allowed to even walk the streets. That would take care of any problems with them being able to buy a gun, and it would eliminate both parts of the term 'background check'. The 'background checks' part of this isn't even a serious issue: Your MD is now 'allowed' to disclose your personal information to the government. So far it's 'allowed' rather than 'required', but under the ACA the vast majority of MD's are 'required' to tow the government line. Be very careful about what you say to your doctor. There will be an increase in government spending to advance 'smart gun' technology. Who do you think will be controlling and tracking the 'brains' of those guns if this comes to fruition? The thing I like most about guns is that they're stupid mechanical contraptions. But it's just a small step, right?
  19. I'm not okay with that at all, and I never was. You're arguing that one more small loss of Liberty is not a big deal, when it is in fact a very big deal to many of us in this country, because even a tiny loss of Liberty is still a loss. Never give an inch.
