  1. Wheel bearings tend to really scream at you before they actually seize up and go. Kinda like unwanted girlfriends.
  2. When you hear hoofbeats think horses, not zebras. This truck is only 3 years old or so and is not likely to have a broken coil spring (which wouldn't cause the problems described anyway), or a rotten frame. I've had vehicles with both issues and my 18 YO truck has neither. A mechanic will put it on the lift and immediately look for a tire that's not rotating freely. Probably a stuck brake caliper, possibly a bad wheel bearing. Neither issue is a big deal or an expensive fix unless it goes on for too long.
  3. People don't understand that first and foremost the Dems are very sly schemers. Whether it's about gun-grabbing or getting the President out of office, they plan everything out in very specific steps that will lead to the result they want. Just look at how the media all follow the exact same script on all issues. They're sneaky, and if you don't pay attention to what's happening on any particular day the next day they're likely to be a step or two ahead of you.
  4. Refresh the page or log off and then back on. YMMV but it works for me. This type of legislation was enacted in Washington state (I believe?) a few years ago. It makes it a crime to hand your hunting buddy your gun while you cross a fence, or while you unlock your vehicle, etc. It obviously has nothing to do with safety. It's about control, period.
  5. Members 5442 4887 posts Report post Posted 37 minutes ago (edited) From Dan Bongino's podcast today: cued to the "king coumo" segment: I've posted this elsewhere here, but it's important to get the message across. It's not President Trump's fault that New York's taxes are too high, and that the citizens are leaving in droves. President Trump essentially said when he eliminated the SALT deductions, "Let's level the playing field. Coastal cities should not be subsidized..."
  6. They also make a great religious shrine to the Virgin Mary when stood upright in the yard. I never really got that, but you see it a lot in certain neighborhoods around me. Mary in the bathtub?
  7. Pretty cool maker's mark on that one. Not sure I've ever come across that kind of detail before! Made in 1951; 281 gallons; and five feet long. Deep tub for sure. Scrap guys might take it whole, but they probably won't give you anything for it. Every cast iron tub I've removed was busted up into pieces before heading to the scrap yard. Usually because that was the only way to get them out of the house in the first place. I've knocked knickknacks off of the shelves of neighboring houses while breaking up CI tubs.
  8. I have a friend in Iowa. I'll ask him about this, but he pretty much just shoots the deer with guns. I also have a friend in Kentucky who killed a small wild pig by jumping out of a tree with a knife. He's about a hundred pounds heavier now and can't climb the trees, but it's a great story.
  9. The warm-up this weekend is probably going to be great for shed hunting.
  10. It's climbed up to zero here. I ran out of beer last night so I may have to venture out today.
  11. I do a lot of work for local farmers. Driving equipment, maintaining equipment, consulting on building projects, etc. They call when they need a hand. I usually am invited to dinner with the family at the end of the day. When politics comes up the reply is. "I don't have time for that, I'm running a business." These are people who wake up thinking about their farm, spend their day working on their farm, and go to bed worrying about the future of their family farm. They know full well what politics is doing to them, and they vote, it's just hard for them to commit any energy to it.
  12. I've sold a bunch of guns over the years that I wish I could have back, and I have a bunch now that I really wish I had gotten rid of. I have friends who collect comic books and/or baseball cards and who brag about what their collections are worth. The stuff is worth what somebody will give you for it. That's all. I start my wood stove with free local newspapers and old phone books. I wouldn't pay anything for comic books or baseball cards. But that's just me.
  13. I've had Dewalt tools, corded and cordless, for decades. They've served me well even when the job meant abusing them to some degree and I still use them. From what I gather Dewalt has become very bad about warranty work etc. It's just what I hear from friends still in the construction business. Almost everyone I know has gone to Milwaulkee battery-operated everything, including my ex-partner. He's hard on tools, but he takes very good care of his batteries. The tool is almost free. It's the batteries that cost you money. That was nice of you jmp. I gifted my brother a Stihl MS 260 Pro with two bars and eight chains for his birthday last year. He's cut a lot of firewood for me and his saw had crapped out. One caveat however: I reserved the right to borrow it and him when the time came to thin out my woods for heating purposes. It'll be a fun spring this year.
  14. Two more sled-loads of firewood and a beer run and I'll be good for a week+ of whatever comes this way.
  15. The stairway in my grandparents' farmhouse always had various meats and cheeses hanging from the walls and ceiling on the way upstairs to the bedrooms. Always made me hungry for a late night snack.
  16. She's a pop star. The only difference between her and the airheads in Hollywood is that she now has a vote in the U.S. Congress. If that doesn't scare the hell outta everyone I don't know what will.
  17. Don't discount the power of this idiot child. She's stupid as can be, and a pure media creation, but she's turning the hearts and minds of young Americans towards Socialism. She's very dangerous. Don't ignore her.
  18. There are several states that prohibit bottleneck cartridges. No one knows exactly why. Seems dumb to me, but then I actually think about things. ;-)
  19. Sounds like an interesting round. I went full-in with the .357 Maximum when it came out years ago because it was intriguing, but I ended up sticking with the .44 Mag for hunting. Keep it simple.
  20. Thanks for the replies folks! Even in a plastic bucket I'm not real keen on having salt inside my truck. There's enough on the outside. I'll probably go with the cat litter. It's just a really coarse sand, and I use it for oil spills around the property anyway.
  21. After 15 years of driving front wheel drive mini vans that were almost impossible to get stuck in snow unless you high-centered them, I now have a one wheel drive Ford Ranger that gets stuck if someone spills a drink with ice cubes in the driveway. I have weight in the back and I'm certainly not new to pickup trucks, I just got spoiled with those mini-van tanks. Anyway, I'm thinking of carrying some traction help for emergency situations (like a spilled drink with ice ;-). Cat litter or rock salt? Preferences?
