  1. I get every station that's available and it costs me nothing. I just drive a half mile up the road to the local bar and ask for the remote control to one of the TVs. Okay, it's not actually free because I usually drink a couple of beers. And maybe have a burger.
  2. I've never paid for TV reception. Ever. The day my rabbit-ears antenna didn't work I put the TV on the curb and I haven't had one since. I have a pretty stout internet connection for business, however, and it also works for entertainment.
  3. You betcha I'm grumpy! I'm almost out of firewood and have been wearing outdoor clothing, including a knit hat, inside my house for the last month. GRRRRRR!!
  4. I'm officially sick of winter, and I feel as grumpy as a bear who hasn't taken a dump in 6 months. ;-(
  5. I'd have to turn into Cool Hand Luke to do 22.Then again I'm pretty hungry right now. ;-)
  6. My Grandmother left me a really cool old egg poacher that was basically three little cups for the eggs sitting over a shallow pan of boiling water. (think antique; my Grandmother died in 1974). The eggs were perfect every time whether I wanted them soft boiled or hard boiled. Very simple. I can't imagine the scumbags who broke into my house and robbed me 17 years ago cared about an old egg poacher, so there's a chance I still have it somewhere. After moving 10 times in 10 years, I've lost a lot of cool stuff though. Those eggs look great Larry! That's how I like them as well.
  7. Generous offer Phade! Good for you to pay it forward.
  8. Happy Birthday my friend!!! And wishing you many more.
  9. If he's sad it's likely because he hasn't taken a dump since last Fall. That's what gets the Spring bees pizzed off. Once they let loose a good poop they're not nearly so angry or disgruntled.
  10. Best of luck with the ice fishing!!
  11. Thanks for the info Dan. I had about twenty of them in my back yard today. They seemed to have fun flipping leaves in their bug quest. Fun to watch.
  12. What do robins eat during the winter? Serious question. I thought they were strictly bug/worm/grub eaters. They're not exactly built for pecking at trees or pulling apart pine-cones.
  13. I have robins all year for some reason. I actually plow some of the snow off the back yard at times so they can get to the grass and dirt while their hunting for food. One of the big signs of spring is when the female cardinal starts pecking at the side-view mirror on my truck. Craziest bird on my property by a long shot.
  14. I don't normally look for bulges in men's outerwear unless they're directly threatening me. :-) That said, I had a Ruger LCP in an ankle holster that night. Parkers in Geneva is a pretty peaceful place. I'll try to arrange another GTG there. If I had the cash Larry I'd be all over that gun. It's a classic in the best sense of the word.
  15. Shingles, gout, and poison ivy... I believe in God, but what were you thinking?
  16. I do a quick test right away to see if a new barrel needs to be broken in. Most don't, and I don't ever remember a Savage barrel requiring a rigorous process of break-in. At a very stable bench I'll use my top bench rest gear and technique at 100 yards and shoot five rounds. If the group starts to open up after 2 or 3 rounds it's probably a candidate for a good break-in. Most of the time it's a very coarse rifling that is easily fouled. It takes a lot of ammo and patience to fix that. Fortunately I enjoy loading and bench shooting. The worst offender I've ever seen was the stainless T/C 14" barrel that I have in .223. It required over 200 rounds with substantial cleaning every two shots before it started to come together. I swear half the copper in the bullet jacket was left inside the barrel on every shot. It's capable of nailing woodchucks at 300 yards now if I do my part. Consistently hitting a 55 gallon drum at 300 yards would have been impossible when I first bought it. Things are trickier with factory ammo though.
  17. During a check-up my doctor asked if I had firearms, and if they were secured. I told him it was none of his business. He wasn't happy with that answer but he had to accept it.
  18. I've never followed baseball, even though I played the game, but I remember the name. I have sympathy for anyone dealing with any sort of dementia, including the family, because my own father is in the early stages of it. I see my folks often, and recognize the small changes happening. It's heartbreaking.
  19. There was no such mandate. The state's geniuses used past prices regarding gun transfers to assure everyone that cost wouldn't be a problem under their new program. FFL's are free to charge whatever they want.
  20. You get a vision in your head of what's possible. Then you get a passion for making it all possible. That's art. Then you buy really cool tools because they're absolutely necessary... and you can't do without them... and they're integral to the art...
  21. Quite honestly you shouldn't have to act like a grade-school hall monitor here. Most of this disagreement nonsense is pretty silly to begin with, and it's not adult behavior. You agree to disagree; the end. FWIW, this is the best site I belong to as far as member relations.
  22. I, too, was stupid when I was young. It's just a part of being young and stupid. The trick to being not so stupid is to grow up and realize exactly when the potential for stupid doesn't fit the situation.
  23. To be brutally honest, and a bit cynical; they simply can't stand the fact that someone might have fun doing something they themselves can't or don't do. On a beach in California it might be throwing and catching a Frisbee. In NYS it's hunting and fishing, which is a big part of why most of us even stay here. Stop thinking about the reasons for stupid legislation. It boils down to the desire to control the citizens. Nothing more and nothing less.
  24. I had one in the 1970's. I broke it in half throwing it at a tree in 1979 in Slidell, Louisiana. Good knife! Bad knife thrower.
  25. I have a number of law enforcement friends who carry their duty pistols while hunting just for the coup-de-grace if it's necessary. I don't believe any of them have a 4" barrel. The barrel needs to be less than 16", but I haven't seen any mention of a minimum length.
