Prevailing winds are almost always out of the west to northwest in this part of NY. But I live 200 yards west of Seneca lake with a very gradual 600+ foot rise in elevation directly behind me and I've found that more often than not during hunting season the air moves out of the east. I'm not sure why this is so. My computer is tied into a few local amateur weather stations, but they're all located on top of the hill somewhere behind me and will show air movement out of the west, even though the 'telltale' surveyor's tape I put up in my back yard clearly shows an easterly direction.

I'm not comfortable with countries like China and Russia having a major say in what may or may not be openly presented on the only "free press" that actually exists today. I fully understand your point regarding liberty and safety, and I won't voluntarily give up either. Intelligence agencies around the world already monitor the internet but they don't control the content. This abdication moves the power of control to a lot of countries with basically anti-American views. The U.S. has the power of control, but they wisely haven't used it thus far. Obama has handed over that power to people who will absolutely use it. -
To quietly remain seated during our national anthem, where one is expected to stand and honor the flag and country, is one thing. It's what he said and did in the interviews following his 'protest' that are rewarding him with the much-deserved public dope-slap. He's an overpaid man-child, completely ignorant of the inherent value of being born a U.S. citizen. Maybe he'll grow up to be a U.S. senator some day.

If you mean having a bit of oversight regarding the growth and organizational structures of Radical Islamists intent on destroying our country, yep. Trump, and many others, have suggested that's part of a strategy toward stopping them. BTW, the U.N. fully supports any and all efforts to damage and diminish the U.S. -

...the internet comes under U.N. control on October 1st of this year? http://www.realclearpolitics.com/articles/2015/12/15/the_un_internet_takeover_129031.html Does anyone think the access and exchange of ideas via the internet will remain as free and open as it is today?

The 'iron triangle' of leftist control: media, academia, and Hollywood. Professional sports, including college level, easily fits into all three categories.

From "The Frisco Kid: "Now we can ride!" Watch the movie.

You'll probably have a couple of seconds to make the shoot/don't shoot decision. You're either confident that you can connect with the shot or you're not. Practice builds confidence.
-
You're either capable of hitting what you shoot at, and fully confident that you can do so, or you're not. Take the shot accordingly. Measuring precise ranges, angles, and dangles become excuses if you miss. I've missed a lot of deer over the years because I'm human. It's about doing the best you can do.

He was 83 years old and suffering with Alzheimer's disease. A very funny guy in movies such as "Young Frankenstein", "Blazing Saddles", "The Producers", and "The Frisco Kid". He was a class act who knew how to get a laugh just by laughing at himself. RIP, my friend. Be with Gilda.

Seems like the 49ers were planning on releasing him from the team before this even happened. He sucked, the team knew it, and he wanted some attention. He has about two more days to capitalize on this "news". Then again, 16 mil is a pretty good 'consolation' prize for a twenty-something punk with an attitude problem. Tell me again why you don't like America!

Rand and Ron Paul are not seeing the forest for the trees. I kinda' like them both, in a way, but the country as we know it is at least halfway lost already. Their policies are 'supportive' rather than 'recuperative'. At this point it's about recovering what has been lost over the last 30+ years. Supportive will come later.

I find it important to stand up to Redneck's nonsense, so I will never ignore his ridiculous spouts. It's also quite entertaining to see what the hard-core leftists have for defense/authority for their arguments, (In general, they're not very good at it). I only respond when he's especially stupid with a post, but that's definitely becoming more frequent.

His anger/disgust/outrage/self-righteousness seems to be seriously misdirected. Maybe he'll grow out of it.

"Guessing" is not good. With some practice and experience you can learn to "estimate" quite accurately, but it takes some work. You don't need to know the exact distance, just that you can hit the target at whatever distance it happens to be. I spent a lot of time just walking around shooting at specific leaves or dirt clumps with judo points when I first got into archery 45+ years ago. Whether the target was ten yards or fifty yards didn't really matter. That I could either hit that target consistently or not was what mattered.

Screw-in Steps
philoshop replied to Rebel Darling's topic in Hunting Gear Reviews and Gear Discussions
I haven't used them in many years, but I would recommend that whatever spacing 'looks appropriate' this time of year be reduced by half unless you climb stuff for a living. There's a very good reason why construction ladders and ladder-stands have rungs spaced at 12". I'll second Merlot's advice about not ruining valuable timber trees, and please make the effort to remove the steps when you're done. They are NOT fun to hit with a chainsaw or a milling saw.- 25 replies

Fruit-bearing plants, including nut trees, run in cycles. Weather and late frosts can have a significant impact, but even under ideal conditions they may or may not produce in a given year. It's Mother Nature, and it-is-what-it-is.

Bearings for the guide set-up on my bandsaw, from the dealer, were going to be almost 50 bucks. After calling around, the national distributor for those very same bearings happened to be local and I got them for 10 bucks and change. My apologies to the middlemen.

It's a set for "The Blair Witch Project", Part 2. ??? Fire the photo off to the DEC, tell them where it is and how you came across it. If it's not their own doing they'll almost certainly look into it.

Trail cams and treestands set to explode

Sounds to me like a case of extreme anti-hunter sentiment, or some other enviro-terrorist leanings.
