  1. Has anyone here ever been actually diagnosed with this? Any information would be helpful, because I've been suffering from some fairly unusual afflictions for the last year that just don't match up with the modern medicine game plan. I pulled a deer tick out of my hip in 2012 and never got it checked out. .
  2. I understand there's now an aloe vera spray to relieve the irritation.Something about a "simple spritz on the tp". I swear this contry is going to become France in my lifetime. God help us.
  3. The older I get the fewer seeds I can tolerate!
  4. I spent a couple of years doing range testing for the local gunsmith when I was in high school. He loved to build the guns and tinker with them, but he never really cared about shooting them unless they were fully-auto and could blow the heck out of a toilet or something.
  5. Excellent point Growie. One of my best friends from high school is a full-blood American Indian. The dude knows how to hunt, and how to do it right. One of his favorite tactics back in the 1970's was just to act like a white guy rambling into the woods, and then he'd sit and wait for a couple of hours while.the deer calmed down and came back to the area. He's got a couple of walls covered with serious trophies that attest to his skills..
  6. I heat my house with wood, and I've absolutely discovered the big drawback to being an 'ex-smoker"....There is not a match or lighter in my entire house right now, the stove is full of wood,I have no way to light it, and the MAPP torch seems to want to burn my hand off rather than just light my fire. I'll fix it all tomorrow with a new torch and a big bag of Bic lighters. :-] I'll almost certainly buy a twelve-pack of beer as well.
  7. I've put the regulator on two different tanks; and the tanks on two different known-to-be-working regulators,
  8. Has anyone had one of these tanks discharge for no apparent reason? Not a quick discharge, but a sneaky sort of slow seepage? I've gone to all snap-type plumbing fittings, Shark-bites etc, and the only thing I use the torch for now is lighting my wood-stove. I've owned and used these torches for about 40 years though, so I have a bit of history with them.. I installed a new propane tank on the the head of my torch today and went back to my desk twenty feet away. (It's a small house). When I started to smell propane and realized the torch was only about 8 feet from the hot wood-stove, I was immediately concerned. I'm not interested in stirring up conspiracy theories, but if I hadn't been paying attention this afternoon I would have been David Bowie's "Rocket Man", and my house would be a smoking crater right now. The average Joe Homeowner would have set that torch on his basement workbench within a couple of feet of his open-flame water heater...."And I think it's going to be a long, long time..."
  9. My Dad.... "Antlers are just carry handles for lazy people, and they don't taste as good as the rest of the deer any way." "Well, it was a twelve point until I shot the other half off to keep it from gettin' away." He's eighty years old and still with us, God bless him. I really want to take him hunting again, but Mom won't let me give him a gun. :-]She just mumbled something about "only getting one chance".?
  10. I suspect the fire-bombing of the Republican party headquarters by Democrat operatives last night will play well for Trump in the next round of polling. Citizens don't react kindly to domestic terrorism.
  11. https://www.nraila.org/articles/20161014/connecticut-judge-grants-immunity-to-bushmaster-in-case-seeking-to-gut-the-plcaa Seems there may still be some sanity in the court system! Just a heads up, but Hillary Clinton would like to repeal the Protection of Lawful Commerce in Arms Act (PLCAA) which would basically destroy the entire gun manufacturing industry in this country. Vote wisely, folks.
  12. I slice them like Otto describes but then treat them to an egg bath before frying, like you would for French toast.
  13. Right you are, Al. Spitzer is basically the German word for 'point". Among other possible bullet configurations would be flat-nose, round-nose, and maybe a few others. What we're looking for is a bullet that is consistently accurate and that will both penetrate and expand to get the most effective kill.
  14. I personally could write the CDC's conclusion to any 1/2 billion dollar study they might conduct. In fact, here it is: "The CDC's study on this matter has determined that the 2A should be removed from the US Constitution." (This would be the summary of a 1500 page report, of course.) I'll be waiting anxiously for my $500,000,000 check for freeing up these bureaucrats to pursue other matters such as the cause of the current TB epidemic in Minnesota. You're welcome!
  15. Or be a mentor to a young kid who doesn't mind being a pack mule/gun-bearer, ;-}
  16. ^^^^ Several more likes for this, Core. ^^^^ Director Comey described Clinton's actions as "extremely reckless", but then said that there was no evidence of "intent". The US legal code in this particular case makes no reference to "intent" as part of it's "burden of proof". The burden of proof is met by the finding of "gross negligence". Look up the term "gross negligence" in a legal dictionary and you'll find the term "extreme recklessness" as a definition. Comey apparently had met the burden of proof and he still refused to refer the case to the DOJ for prosecution.
  17. Welcome aboard Austen32! There is a "Regional Maps" section in the "NY Hunting & Trapping Guide" that you get with your license purchase that shows public hunting areas. Even better is a visit to the NYSDEC website which provides more detail regarding specific rules and regulations, phone contact numbers, etc. Best of luck to you!
  18. i seem to remember 50 or so nuclear weapons 'went missing' from the soviet union's arsenal after the USSR breakup. Many of them were considered 'man-packable' "suitcase nukes". Read that as 'backpackable' nukes. To the best of my knowledge, no one has any idea where they are today, but they are almost certainly for sale somewhere on the arms market. Money greases a lot of wheels and buys a lot of silence. It's naive to think that access to nukes is impossible. Hell, half of those missing nukes could be sitting in the basement of George Soros right now.
  19. The translation of this is that the UN and it's supporters will lose in their quest to fully rule the world. Keep in mind Uptown that it's never to late to wake up and smell the reality.
  20. Thanks for the well-wishes, eagle rider and Pygmy! They're much appreciated.
  21. Probably nothing this year, due to some medical issues. If I manage to heal up over the next month I'll be carrying either the Savage .243 or the T/C pistol with the .44 mag barrel, depending on the density of cover I choose. Edit: Best of luck to everyone!!
  22. I tend to refer to the AWG supporters as "climate scientologists". ;-]
  23. Even though I am no longer able hike any great distances; knife, drag rope, water bottle, and a small baggie of crackers is my standard load-out these days, There was a time when carrying climbing sticks, a hang-on stand, an 11* pound shotgun, ridiculous amounts of ammo, and often camping gear including food was the norm. I was doing a lot of roofing in those days which is why I was able to carry a lot more than half my body weight for extended periods time . Then again it's also the reason I'm no longer able to do that.
