  1. I start with a cheap turkey load(like a double x or hornady load) that id never take to the woods @ 15-20 yards to get the poi close. From there I go right back to 40yards. @40 yards ill take the shells i intend to use afield and see what they will do out of any turkey choke i have fitted for that particular gun. All guns shoot differently stands true here as well like it does with rifles. I shoot 20 gauges with handloads of Tungsten 8 shot(1-5/8, 1-7/8 and 2oz loads). and 12 gauge handloads of 7s or 8s of Tungsten(2oz and 2-1/4oz). When the pattern starts having gaps of 2inches or more between pellet strikes on paper.. its a good deciding point to call that combo at its max effective range.. will it kill 5,10 or 15 yards yards farther.. probably.. but its owed to the animal we peruse. As for a target I use 2ft or 3ft square cardboard to see the entire pattern. Because each load can change POI some here or there. I then take a 10" circle and find the most dense part of the pattern and circle it with the 10".. I do count the pellet hits to determine if the pattern is too choked or can be choked more. Ill then compare the percentage of hits in the 10" circle compared to the # of pellets in the entire shell. For my handloads. When i find the load i want to hunt with, Ill then move my POI to where i need it. 1st pic is my 535 with 2 dif chokes and handload 8s @40yrd 2nd pic is one of my 20s with handload 8s @40yrd
  2. damn i dont know how i missed this i check everyday lol great deal
  3. Awesome, bird! congrats to all of you guys
  4. From what ive read is there is a plastic piece that could possibly be broken that works one or both sides of the latch. a design flaw. Everything I read says, remove panel soak everything with wd 40 or penetrating oil.. and get roudy on it. If you cant find the plastic piece to manually open the latch from the sides.. If its not broken, It sounds like it is just really dirty, and needs to be cleaned and maintained after wards. Seems like a common issue with those. https://forums.nicoclub.com/98-pathy-rear-door-tailgate-won-t-open-t435571.html
  5. Youtube or google. Got me out of jams many times
  6. I did pass on her, most everytime I saw the big girl she was with a dozen other does, so i gladly selected another deer. I dont know if i could take a piebald. Even with antlers, now maybe a giant mature buck I may think different.. Nothing against them, I just love seeing them in the woods. It is still a deer, and somewhat rare, I just dont think I could do it.. Id rather see a youngster take it, or enjoy seeing it in the future.. Weird.. I know lol
  7. Not sure if you are on Brads lease 8F also or not but you have one real close to there. Just a 1/2 mile up the rd lol Took a picture of it a few months back. Standing in the road I thought it was a great dane or something. Used ot have a huge Doe on my family property in 8F as well, i mean big girl. Thought she was a cow coming through the woods she was so big and colored quite alike. Saw her for years then she disappeared
  8. Meytalll and Brooke C were a couple that ive watched in the past.. They play a little newer heavier music though.. But the drumming is insane.. Yes I listen to literally everything. The same thing over and over gets old lol
  9. Finally perfected the Roll crimp Tool i think. I started with a diameter just a few thousandths bigger than the hull itself, I then lead that "IN" with a 10degree taper. right into a .062" radius and an 1/8" roll pin to help push the roll crimp over. works well. The only thing I may do different just for quality sake is use an even smaller radius at the bottom. To go along with that I made a simple cheap version of a hull vise. with interchangeable blocks for different gauge guns..
  10. There are a few young female drummers on youtube that do this with many songs and absolutely hit it out of the park. And as others said. Fun to watch.
  11. TF, Im a "one size fits all" Can you find me something really nice! Lol. Good deed done fellas.
  12. Looks good as usaul Mr! how do you like the no till approach? Love seeing people use it. Its great for most seeds, especially smaller seeds and grain seeds.
  13. Lots of ways to do it sir, those seeds grow with very little effort.. especially Cereal Rye, Ive had it grow everywhere.. bed of the truck, ATV, in a tree, Concrete you name It. Ive taken golden rod fields, knocked them down July August, sprayed them, seeded them and rolled them and had great results. "Trash" isnt a bad thing. Your little seeds will fall between them and actually be protected, by the trash.
  14. Yesterday.. Long story short, I missed.. lol Found 2 longbeards, 1 jake and 3 hens grouped up not moving much.. drying off from the wet evening before.. It took 4 setups between 630am and 930 am to finally get them within range.. On the fourht sit i got ahead of them finally.. and just waited them out, no calls or anything. One hen got to about 5 yards and didnt like what she saw, slowly turned back and putted away.. the two toms stopped at 40 and broke strut but didnt run.. actually just started eating and pecking around.. waited for the more dominant bird to pick his head up and when he did..... i pulled the gun off of his head, probably by a couple of feet, then squeezed the trigger... no idea why.. Guess theres a first for everything.. First miss on a bird in my books. Bummer.. Man do these little 20ga handloads pack a punch, hot dang! On the first setup, I had a fisher at 30 yards.. man did I wanna squeeze one off at it in the worst way... After that a huge male yote with maybe a 3" tail and a smaller very dark female strolled through. She had something in her mouth..
  15. A tiller will work. Just scuff the top couple inches is all. No more. If you are waiting until then to plant.. Just let it grow, and keep it mowed. Keep organisms living in the soils for as long as you can. Better for soils. Keeps them from drying out and being starved of nutrients.. Bare soil for extended periods of time, is not a good practice. Especially if organic matter is low.. If it were me, just brush hog it the final time in early/mid july.. wait a week or two, apply glyphosate, wait a week or 2(to assure good kill) then spread brassica seeds over top and roll it in with a lawn roller. before a rain.. Or if you must, till a couple inches, roll, spread seed then roll again. Save your grain plantings for early September. Id also throw in some clovers or other perennial seeds to establish and keep a nice perennial plot going for you. Great for critters coming out of winter, and going into fall.. and depending on available summer foods, can work for that as well. Keep us updated sir!
  16. Not early at all, a stud buck will have a couple inches by now..
  17. It was a nice day to mow yesterday and get the lawn caught up before more rain moves in.. Did mine for the 3rd time. Got to get that checkerboard finish!
  18. They sure have. Just last night I put together a couple 2oz Tungsten loads, and a couple 1-7/8oz Tungsten loads for the 20gauge. Yes, the 20 gauge! lol. Main reason for this was that they were simple, besides using a new and improved wad.. And im not happy with the loads ive put through my new 870.. My cheap $190 maverick out performs the remington by far! I know some people dont like this new Tungsten shot, but IMO, you owe it to the animal, Shoot a bird with Tungsten and youd be lucky to see the bird flap just one wing, or kick a leg.. Rarely any floppage.. You WILL stop that flop! And for the guys who reload rifle and slug ammo, its not different .. your trying to make your gun perform to the best of its ability.. I know these new gimmicks in a lot of old timers eyes, but its fun toting a 4lb small bore gun through the woods, thats as capable or more capable than most 12gauge turkey setups. Plus the fact of knowing I made these shells myself, and they get the job done and then some.. There is a reassurance cushion with these... and it feels good! I shouldnt advertise it, but i know we have all been there, take a shot and not realizing theres a little bit of brush in between you and the bird... Well with Tungsten you know really have to worry. It wont deform, and it literally breaks brush and keeps driving.. Another form of cushion for those tougher shots in brushy areas.... like the arrow that struck a limb you never knew was there..
  19. Thats how to do it sir!! make it look its best from the neighbors view! lol
  20. Good for her, That great! I Just sent a youth several turkey calls for winning a youth turkey hunting photo contest. It aint much, but hopefully enough to keep them coming back to the woods. Along with help from her mentors..
  21. That an awesome first gun, hot dang! My first was an 1148 12ga I believe? Shot it for a bit but didnt like the feel at 12 years old. Probably due to the 28 or 30" barrel it had. MY dad got it for $50 20 years ago.. It was the only semi shotgun ive owned and wish like heck i still had it.
  22. Brother just had a guy in a truck we have never seen before, drive right down the field and past his deeks.. great start...
  23. Didnt even think of that, Yea that is a reach, and a bit to get used to, especially in the heat of the moment. ItsNot like having the ease of a safety on a triggger guard, where your hand already is lol. My 535 is a thumbhole, i just hit the safe with my pointer finger, it is a bit of a reach though. If you chose to sell the tactical stock, let me know Im the exact opposite, I plan to hunt with a new 870 youth i put together this year. Im used to the mossberg safety, not the trigger guard safetys..
  24. Off that hedge row my wife will be! lol Corn all the way around, Thousands of early and late season apples. Plus last yr 4 acres of un picked pumpkins lol Lot of fields but couple nice pockets of thick shtuff
  25. Finally got around to cutting mine.. It was very tall, so i cut it high, especially with the heavy frost expected last Sunday night..
