Who wants Yearling Buck Protection with ARs in their area?
covert replied to Meat Hunter's topic in Deer Hunting
The way I read it Belo was that the increase in antler size led to the increased Posting of the private land. As far as the moving goes I am doing my research now and plan to beat feet ASAP. I was right on the edge anyway with the tax situation and recent events have tipped me over into the GTHO column.- 320 replies

Actually I was typing while you posted the one preceeding mine. I was speaking generally, not to anyone in particular.- 320 replies

Here one big problem I see with the whole AR thing. Reading opinions it always seems like most (not necessarily all) of the pro-AR guys with the "wait for the buck of your dreams" and "slob" this and "lazy" that, "no challenge" type comments. Then you read most (again, not necessarily all) of the against-AR opinions and they are more like "leave me alone and I'll leave you alone" and "who are you to say what is the buck of my dreams?" A lot of you pro-AR guys would be better served to take a tack like WNYBuckhunter and NYAntler and try to "educate" people and bring them to your side that way. It doesn't matter how good your argument might be, as soon as someone sees "lazy", "slob" or those type of derogatory statement it shuts them right down. This doesn't just apply to this though; I see it a lot in the crossbow arguments too. You aren't doing your cause any justice when you move into name-calling.- 320 replies

As long as youths can use crossbows over bait during archery season with mandatory blaze orange in high fences and shoot coyotes year round while carrying a handgun to protect against mountain lions. There, that should about cover everybody.- 320 replies

Storing Guns - Cocked or uncocked?
covert replied to Elmo's topic in Guns and Rifles and Discussions
Most of mine you can hold the trigger and close the bolt slowly letting the pressure off the spring. I will do that if I think about it, but I don't really wory about it if I don't. -
More often than not. You should see some of the stuff maintenance will send them back with. Big bins full of chain, rubber hoses on a roll, conveyor parts.
-
We usually tell the new guys at work that we have a load that is too big and they need to go to maintenance to get the trailer stretcher and a bucket of steam to run it.

Regarding the 7.62x51 vs .308 and 5.56x45 vs .223 discussions here is an email exchange I had in 2005 with Federal Cartridges. The names have been removed to protect the innocent. From: Prodserv [mailto:[email protected]] Sent: Friday, October 07, 2005 9:52 AM To: Me Subject: RE: Ammo Inquiry from Federal Web Site Greetings The two are military designations which mean how/where the military tests pressures etc is different.Case thickness can also be an issue as well as type of primers etc. The 308 & 7.62x51 are quite interchangeable without an issue. In 5.56 SAAMI reccommends to not use 5.56 in a .223 chamber as it might be tighter. You can use .223 in a 5.56 chamber. From: Me Sent: Thursday, October 06, 2005 9:34 PM To: Prodserv Subject: Ammo Inquiry from Federal Web Site Dear Sir or Madam: Could you please settle an argument for me? Is there ANY appreciable difference between 7.62x51 NATO and .308 Winchester? I would also like the same question answered about 5.56x45 and .223 Remington. I have heard so many different opinions from people on headspace, pressures, OAL, etc. that I don’t know who to believe, if anyone. I figured if anyone could give me a credible answer it’d be the people who do it for a living! Thank you, "Me" p.s. Please start making .450 Marlin soon. Nothing against Hornady, it’s just that I have always liked Federal ammo.

New World's Fastest Production Rimfire
covert replied to dbHunterNY's topic in Rifle and Gun Hunting
I think that I will skip it as I have my eye on a .17 Hornet. I have a .22 mag already that I'm happy with and I don't have a centerfire rifle smaller than a .30 caliber. Being a centerfire the .17 Hornet seems more practical to me because I can reload it. -

The power would be irrelevant, rimfires are already not permitted for big game. -
Oh for gosh sakes people, how hard it is to read something in it's entirety? Look down in the instructions. The second sentence of Question 11.a. states "You are also the actual transferee/buyer if you are legitimately purchasing the firearm as a gift for a third party."

If you are buying a gun as a gift it is not illegal as long as you're not buying it for someone who is prohibited from owning a firearm. Question 11. A on the 4473 form adresses this exact scenarion. http://www.atf.gov/forms/download/atf-f-4473-1.pdf

I know but as grossed out as people were getting thinking they were feeding it to their dogs, they ought to get really grossed out when they realize it's going into lipstick too!

The title says at the rendering plant. Probably not going for dog food, they are probably rendering them down for cosmetics and stuff.

In my County it does. They won't give you the permit until you come in with the gun info to put on it. If you get rid of all the guns on your permit they revoke it. At least that's how it was when I got mine. -
SHHHHHH!! Not until I grab a few more primers and a little more powder!

Cuomo talks of gun confiscation
covert replied to wooffer's topic in Gun and Hunting Laws and Politics Discussions
The Nazis weren't looking to disarm the general German population; just the Jews, Gypsies, Slavs, Poles, homosexuals and anyone else that didn't fit their Master Race. Once you have the legislation on the books to remove the means of fighting back you can apply it to whatever part of the populace doesn't agree with you or want to roll over and go along. Then they are completely at the mercy of their "master". -
I'd pretty much agree with that. .22 Mag will work if you keep your shots close and pick them well.
