  1. 1st aid kit good sharp knife two flashlights ( one pref a head lamp ) rope or strap for dragging deer COMPASS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! a whistle ( just in case you get turned around ) Just off the top of me head.
  2. Nope. Quote from this DEC page: http://www.dec.ny.gov/outdoor/8310.html I am not sure all of 4J is bow only, just the Preserve. I might be wrong on that, but I am pretty sure you can use a firearm during the regular season in that area on private land.
  3. Many good points made on why each is good. Sat on the ground this am. Wasn't much fun. Saw nothing. Bailing on the afternoon hunt, to hot, damp, and sticky. Never did like hunting in the rain much. Gonna have to butter up the g/f tonight and pick up a climber.
  4. Nope, no shipping. Especially seeing she is willing to let me make a trade. Have to be local. Sorry.
  5. Heard this term since I was about 13. Hated it then hate it now! I didn't talk to my g/f for two days after I bought my bow and she said that to me! Now, I mean this as no offence to anyone, and this is just me spouting off a personal opinion! Even though I have tags to take an anterless deer with a bow, doesn't mean I am going to shoot a deer the size of my dog. I am no "Trophy Hunter"! I take what I will eat. Be it a doe, and then my buck. If the doe looks to be at leat 100# ( # = pounds, not a hash tag..FFS! ), I will shoot. It might just be me, but I do not want to take a deer I know damn well was this years fawn. Maybe I am just ranting, or venting. Last year when I was going to pick up my g/f from work, a dude was carrying a small dear out over his shoulder. In the Pine Bush area. If you can carry the deer out like that, to me, it was too young to have been taken! I am very sorry for this rant, but I just feel very strongly about some things! This is just my personal opinion, and I hope people take it as that.
  6. Just wondering how to delete a thread. Or why the edit button only works for just so long.
  7. You did right. No worries there. Don't stress it brother.
  8. When a bear does scratch on a tree, haven't heard of that one too much, don't they usually do it standing? I mean reared up, and front claws rippin the tree? So too low. Bobcat would be the same right? Doesn't really look like a deer rub to me either. The way it fades down the right side of the tree in this pic. But, if I had to pick among the tree, I would say deer. Looking at your Username, where in the 518 was this taken? If I may ask.
  9. Got ya. Thank you for the quick explain. There's a knack to everything. If you want it, you learn it.
  10. LOL! Got ya. Dont use AC on my phone, the lile woman once called me a d!ck using it on hers. She was trying to ask if I "picked" up the stuff for tacos. Now that I think abut it..I think she did call me a .............. Anyways. I know thay are loud, but my primary area is loud anyway. Trains, roads, houses, so the noise won't, or shouldn't be a big factor. My SZ area 1, yep! Pretty quiet in them woods, even for state land. If, I decide to head out to Pecks Lake, that's pretty niosy as well. Just hope the NG aren't on menouvers that weekend. That will suck! The NZ, for this season, I think I need it there too. Just so I can set up on the fly when my buddy isn't chasing a woman he ain't ever gonna get, and let me hunt the land. LOL
  11. Um, no clue what that means. If it works for ya, I am fan of using it.
  12. If you don't mind me askin, how is it different? I have never used one, but I have held a light many years ago for a friend that did. Looked pretty straight forward. Just slow and easy. Maybe climbers mean something different these days. I am not being a wise guy here, I am honestly curious. http://www.walmart.com/ip/Aluminum-Climbing-Tree-Stand/36545658 Set it, slowly move your upper body, then bring up your feet, and repeat this process till you are at your desired height. Many things have changed since I hunted with a bow last, or used a stand. I ask so I can learn and get things back in my head for bow hunting the right way.
  13. That's why she said not shipping. It would have been more to ship then the price of the ammo originally. Would have had to charge like $225. People forget about that jjb4900. Glad you popped that in here. Cash price stands firm at $75. But, anyone willing to make the trade offered are welomce to PM me as well.
  14. Can't edit this or I would have. The lil woman just gave me permission to offer a possible trade for the ammo. If ya have a climber stand = to the original amount of $140 to trade, we may consider that. But, that stand better be in good shape! Same goes, PM me and we can change numbers and talk.
  15. The only issue with this the law about those convicted of a domestic crime. Even harassment, and you cannot own, or POSESS a firearm OR ammunition. Anyone selling to these people can do time right along side the buyer. Or a known violent fellon getting his bullets from the web and shooting people. I am not for all the weapon and ammo control, but they do have a few valid points. This just MHO, and not meant to make anyone angry.
  16. The best we can do is try and keep up ourselves. I hate this use the web for everything $hit! Remember when we used to get the little books? If we had a question we could call and get an answer? I am not sure about everytime, everyone. We have to do the best we can, and try to make sure we know what's what. It might be hard, but so is nailing that 12 pt. Make sure you put as much into knowong the laws as you put into consealment and stand placement. I was shocked to heck last year when I got back into hunting and learned many of the old spots I used to hunt, that were shotgon ( or bow/mz ) only now allow rifles. Things get confusing, but it's our responsability to know and abide by the laws to the fullest we can. That's just my opinion, and I am sure others have a different one.
  17. My BC, its great. It's huge, and the seat is wide and comfy. It just takes to much to set up in the dark, then take it down in the dark on public land day to day. I have never done that with this stand. But, I know last year, it took me an hour to have set right by myself. Set up on Friday afternoon, hunted Sat. all day, even ate my lunch in it, and Sun. morning. It's good to see what people like. I think I really need a climber, for at least this season. Maybe I can get a few nice perms on my NZ spot this spring. It would be nice just to get in, and relax. Heck, if the owner allows it I might make a tree "house". Hunt the day and evening, and sleep right in that baby. lol
  18. This is my thinking as well. I will be hunting three areas this season, maybe 4. I think the versatility may help. No ladder to haul, is a big plus for me. Three of the areas are either State or Public land. My NZ area is private, and I actually think I could put a couple perm stands in there if I ask real nice and give more 'nanner bread this X-Mas. Using the climber and my other stand as back-ups. Oh!....Just to add this... No I would not build a blind or stand this time of year. I would do it right as the weather breaks in late winter, so the deer have time to adjust.
  19. The six years I fished Mallet Pond in Summit, we saw the same female officer every year. She was always polite. Browns Lake, the upper reservior for the Gilboa Dam, we always seen them. I think the "should" know the laws, but, everything changes in NY so much, maybe they can't even keep up.
  20. My current stand is a Bone Collector Deluxe. Bought that due to the land I was hunting last year. It's heavy and hard to set up alone Thinking about a climber..... What do you prefer? A permenant stand you build? Climber? Hanger?
  21. What the law is and what folks do, is sometimes different. For me, it's not worth it. Even on private land. The private land I hunt in the NZ is owned by an X-State Trooper, and his middle son is a current State Trooper. I am allowed my two deer, and I am good with that.
  22. Changed my username. Figure JustRob is a better fit for a hunting forum.. Also just noticed I have an orb in my avatar pic, which is 3 years old, and the pic I just posted.
  23. I was 17, the deer was a doe, took her with a Mossbergh 500.
