  1. This has been talked about in DEC for a few years now. As some states already do the course online. So far they are not changing to that. In NY, you need to complete the online course, and then attend the eight hour hands on instruction, to be certified. Not saying this because I'm an instructor. But in every class I've been a part of, there are always a few that have never held a firearm, or have done so very little. Much less be shown how to safely handle one. The hands on field instructions, are a way to actually work with students, with live fire, and the many different aspects of safe firearm handling. And other aspects of hunting too, like tree stand safety, blood tracking, and transporting firearms safely. Most people on this forum are more than qualified to be a mentor to their sons, daughters or other young people. But there are some young people who have a strong interest in hunting or shooting, that don't have anyone close to them, to show them the safe way to get started. We do that, and many of us volunteer to take young people out with a parent or guardian, to get them going farther in the right direction.
  2. It really is. I had a forum member coming with his son, so that they could spring turkey hunt together. I will make you the first person I call, when we reschedule the next class. I would be honored to have Natalie attend, and sign her certificate.
  3. Not surprisingly, NY DEC has canceled all Hunter Education classes, until further notice. Just an announcement I wanted to pass along.
  4. Yes! Any beer! Even Corona, as not all Corona is bad Corona! Yes, TP can be used for payment! I have plenty. But whatever is not used for our range wind indicators, will be shared with whomever needs some. Yes. I'm located in the hilltowns just west of Albany. And we don't necessarily have to wait to meet, until after the virus mess. C'mon up and I'll take a little off the sides and top! Put some rounds or arrows down range, while the backstrap butterflies are cooking! And we can swap stories of the good ole' days, before all this crazy crap started!
  5. Kids are always free! Got a course scheduled for April 4th. But it may get canceled. Will find out for sure at a meeting Monday night. Always got venison cooking on the grill at "the shop"! And any beer is welcome!
  6. Bring a guitar, and I'll bring mine.....you can sing.....I can harmonize....we'll have a grand ole time! The cows will love it!
  7. OK Larry. You don't have much to work with, so just bring your bow, gun, and a good story!
  8. Would love to have ya! Be nice to have ya stay at least a couple days to work on the local coyote population! No charge for the cut either!
  9. Another one opens! Since all barber shops are now closed. And I'm out of work. Welcome to.... "grampy's Barber Shop In The Barn"!! All welcome! Will accept beer and ammo for payment. We used to do our own years ago? Can shoot bow or any firearm out the back door, or from the loft! Out to 300 yards! Hunting, and fishing (lies) and or, conversations are always taking place! Have up to the shoulder, gutting gloves, and grain alcohol to keep everything clean! Specializing in buzzcut's and mohawk's. But will try anything requested once! Have chain oil, for that slicked back look! First customer, will be given beer, instead of having to pay with it. Just come on by! No appointment needed!
  10. Awesome! That is a real nice group for 200 yards! And for only just picking up the rifle! Both your son and the rifle did magnificently!!!! Nothing like a little range time with a youngster, to build the bonds that tie.
  11. Looks great! I've only had my first AR a short time, and I love shooting it. So fun to shoot. I think you'll feel the same. So many options for optics on an AR. I settled for middle of the road, with a 3x9x40 Nikon that I already had laying around. Pretty good for what I'm using it for now. Plinking and daylight coyotes. But will probably pick up something with a lighted reticle in the future. Good luck with the new baby! Post up some range pic's!
  12. Canceled!........ I'm gonna grow a mullet! Or maybe go with the smooth Nomad look?
  13. So you're saying I shouldn't get the mani and peddi, along with the cut and dry???? You and ol' sod are really hardcore to the max!!!
  14. Shutting down all hair salons, barber shops now. My barber called as I have an appointment next week. Has to close before 8pm tomorrow. I'm going in at 3:30.
  15. We have the same thing going on in Guilderland. I've been helping every day. Just drive up and we'll bring it out to you.

    Ammo

I picked up a bunch more 223 ammo last week. And will be hitting the reloading bench this weekend. Will keep myself occupied down there! Got enough ammo now to eat well, and get myself in trouble if need be!
  17. My deepest condolences, and prayers to you all.
  18. Thanks for the review Brian. I'm mounting a scope tonight for a young man. Could use that! How do you like that 204?
  19. At seven months, and only her second hunt, she is already "getting it"!!! You got a real good pup there Grizz! The sky is the limit for Sky!!! And nice shootin there too.
  20. I can understand him being angry. He gave all he had to the Panthers. But this is after all, a what have you done for me lately business. And since his MVP year in 2015, he's done very little.
  21. Cam Newton given his walking papers from Carolina too. Thank my lucky stars as a Panther fan! Would love to see him go to the Cheatriots!!!
  22. Happy Birthday Dan! It's all top shelf stuff for you today my friend! If you can reach it?
  23. For hunting boots ten and a half. You don't want tight boots. Leave room for heavy socks. And room to wriggle your toes in colder weather.
  24. During all the panic and craziness. I think showing some kindness, and helping family, friends, neighbors, and even people you don't know. Will be the best way to get through all this together. Good for you mowin, for opening your door, to help someone you didn't know.
