Best caliber for hunting that works with AR platform
grampy replied to Hunter007's topic in Guns and Rifles and Discussions
Indeed it is a heavy rifle. But I won't be carrying it over mountains in the adirondacks. Just on our 500 or so acres. I also think the extra weight will make it more stable, for those longer 300 plus yard shots, that we sometimes have on coyotes here. Would enjoy the trigger time, learning to shoot at longer ranges too! Have been doing that a bit with the 270 Sako. Deer hunting opportunities here are still mostly under 75 yards though. But there are a couple long range set up's for deer, that a rifle like this could be used for. Not really looking for, or want multiple quick shots. Just one accurate one. And it just looks so darned cool! -

That Ruger Precision looks REALLY nice! Can get all the bells and whistles on it too, being a bolt rifle. That may be the way to go for me. -

Yes, that is another great option! I have a bolt action 7mm-08 and lots of brass though. But the 6.5cm has caught my attention, no doubt! -

This thread has me seriously thinking about a 7mm-08 in an AR platform for deer AND coyotes. I love the 7mm-08, and I'm finally set up to reload for it too. Just can't get out of my mind, 'how cool would that be'! I'm currently saving for a coyote rig, but with this I could get more use? And double the fun. -
Gobblers going nuts this morning behind the house before work. Can't hunt there though......

You two are doing all you can with what you have. Thank You! And it sucks, that you get little enjoyment from the site yourselves, as all you seem to be doing lately is cleaning up the mess. Hopefully Burmjohn will give you the tools you need to get rid of the spammers, once and for all.

Regardless of individual stats, both Yankees and Red Sox, are playing great baseball right now! The two 'TEAMS' have the best win, loss record in baseball at this time. AL east, will be a battle down to the wire. Awesome for us fans! And for baseball. Looking forward to see how it all plays out!!!

I'm thinking they have no cell or net service where they are? No doubt, we'll will be among the first to hear how everything shakes out!

In an AR platform for deer, hard to beat 308, for all around performance. And easy to find ammo, with a bunch of choices for bullet weight. -
Happy Birthday Greg! Only the best for you today sir!

Hope Culver Creek and moog are seeing tons of bears! Get some guys!

Nice to finally see Sonny come around! A little run support goes a long way. The guy definitely has some dirty stuff. Hope he continues to show it through the rest of the season. We will need him come September!

So that's what you look like with moss on the rock! Don't think I have a picture of my first buck, a spike. Taken in 1973. I can still tell ya every detail of that hunt, like it happened yesterday.

The music AND the gorilla handshake! I can't imagine bending 13s up two octaves, holding, and adding vibrato, like he did!!! Only the virtuoso's can pull off stuff like that. That takes serious hand and finger strength, along with razor control, even with much lighter gauge strings.

Chomp....Chomp......sorry buddy, you're on your own!

Look Both Ways Before Crossing! Jeez.......

From someone who has dabbled at the fretboard for almost fifty years, I am still mouth open agape, wide eyed, and spellbound, by the masters, like SRV. Good stuff here.

Bastids!

Will look forward to more posts like this. Stevie Ray was an absolute powerhouse guitarist! Still love his music! Only lived to 35. Imagine what he could have done since 1990? Good to hear he had a firm handshake! Most musicians I've met, had the wimpy handshake. Always wondered why?

Looks like a great place to do some predator hunting this winter!

My hats off to the mods, taking out the trash, as well as they have! A tough and thankless job at times, I'm sure.
