  1. Was looking forward to reading more youth hunt stories too Paula. Seeing and hearing about the young hunters, always makes me smile! Their youthful excitement is so refreshing! With my grandson playing on three baseball teams, we just weren't able to get out this year for youth season. That and another medical procedure for me a couple of weeks ago. But we will be getting together for regular season hunts, whenever his schedule allows, in May. We're both looking forward to it!
  2. What about crappy's???........grin
  3. Good post. And another friendly reminder, to treat your clothes and hunting camo with Sawyers Permethrin. And to check yourself thoroughly after every woods outing. Seems like our harsh winter, had little impact on the tick population.
  4. Just a reminder to have everyone treat their hunting clothes with Sawyers! Those nasty crawly's will be out in full force! Rob, not sure where your headed, I know you occasionally hunt Black Creek area. Saw a bunch of turkeys cross the road there, last night after work. Couple of nice Tom's too. It can get crowded there though. Anyways, good luck!
  5. After seeing this, I may have to stop by wally's and grab one too. Like you say, the old back, will thank me for it later on! Will come in handy this fall too! Much more comfy than a milk crate! I aint getting any younger! hehehe.
  6. A Happy Birthday to ya sir!! Hope all the good stuff rolls your way today!
  7. What a cool challenge my friend! I think you can pull this off! Best of luck to ya. I know you will have a blast. Keep us updated!
  8. Best of luck to ya buddy! And to your little hunting partner too!
  9. Great article!! Pic's were "almost" as good as yours my friend! My hunting buddy asked, last night, if I wanted to play hooky from work on Tuesday, to turkey hunt. I thought about it for all of two seconds, before saying "ABSOLUTELY"!! So we will be out, hoping to score a Tom, or Two! For one reason or another, this will be my first opening day in a few years! Excitement is building now!!!
  10. Awesome pic's and story! Though I've had a bunch of up close observations, sitting in natural ground blinds and stuff, over the years. I've never seen anything close to that! Very cool indeed. A grouse with an attitude!
  11. Beautiful boat John. The memories made on her will be priceless! Enjoy every second with your Dad and family on the water. Those memories are worth so much more than any $. Since you will be getting so good at cleaning and caring for a boat. Wish you were closer!!! I could drop mine off on Monday, and pick it up, all spiffy on Friday! ...........grin.
  12. Yes, any craft with any type of motor, must be registered. You won't need to register the trolling motor at DMV, just the kayak. Have fun on the water! Always wear your PFD.
  13. Even if I've had a boat for decades, I need to take a course now? Didn't know anything about this!
  14. This is worth repeating! Could not agree more.
  15. I too had mice in the shed and even in my boat chewing wires. Someone told me to use "BOUNCE" dryer sheets. I did, and have never had another wire chewed over the winter. Why it works, I don't know. But it works for me.
  16. No doubt, that walking up on a big buck that I killed is a huge thrill. But it is not what defines my hunting season. I've had great hunting seasons, where I didn't shoot a big buck. But had a close encounter with one, and he won! Nothing wrong with that in my book. Or even shot a smaller buck, that served as food for the table. No problem there either. I always can get venison, which I enjoy very much, and look forward to. The chasing of mature bucks? It really is the experience of hunting them for me. The "challenge" as we say. Not the outcome. I hunt a very pressured area, surrounded by state land. Big bucks don't come easy here. And I've done ok, over the years. But my love of the chase is what gets me out of bed on a cold frosty morning. Not the end result of bone on the ground. I know this sounds like a contradiction to some. But it's as clear as can be to me. And really, that's all that matters. Antlers have never defined me as a hunter. Or a man.
  17. Roffed Grouse. No doubt. One of the coolest sounds in the woods. They also have made me jump, so many times, when they fly up!!! Very tasty too! When you can hit em............grin.
  18. Great post! Sometimes just seeing a deer is a challenge in some areas! I do like to to challenge myself. But I do not base my enjoyment in inches.
  19. Nothing like a nice a nice set of antlers to go along with backstrap cutlets! Gimmy both, and I'll be smiling!
  20. Nice to hear from you ELMER J. FUDD ! It's been awhile.
  21. Great job! Great idea! I got an old scissor jack, will use your idea for sighting in hand loads! Thanks for posting!!
  22. WTH??? He only left EIGHT burgers on the counter for me???? C'mon man.........
