First time shooting since July 30th. Second time since surgery. Been working hard at PT after some discomfort from last shooting. First arrow 25 yards.Last two same distance. That was it, only three arrows for now. Need to shoot using my head and not my heart. First one I'm happy with. I'll be ok! ......Big Smile......

I think Pygmy has influenced a bunch of us! And not necessarily in a bad way............grin. Clawed up signpost trees, tracks around ponds and swamps, dug out stumps, scat, hair on fence posts and wire. We have all that, and some bears. Been bears hear for a long time. Numbers are increasing every year. A couple of big ones too! Still haven't decided if I really want to shoot one yet. But a definite maybe???

I don't know if I will ever get past letting a nice 3 year old walk, in our area of 4-H. Though we do have a couple 4+ year old bucks this year, on one of our properties. I will try to hold out for one of them this year. But a chip shot on a nice 3 year old is almost too tempting!

Who is planning vacation days for the season?

Yes, and one of the best books I've ever read. Movie wasn't too bad either. Perfect 10 days to take off my friend! -

Though she has never hunted a day in her life, my wife is my biggest supporter when it comes to my hunting! She has bought a lot of my gear and equipment, because I didn't want to spend the money on myself. Has helped with years of land and tax payments. And puts up with me and all the time I spend in the woods. She has had a part in every deer I've killed over the last 35 years. Think I got a keeper. .....smile. -

All together, between weekends, holidays, and vacation days, I'll hunt close to 40 days total, for deer. -
Doing pretty good with your new bow! Have fun shooting and you'll be more than ready, come October 1st!

I'm fortunate to have two separate properties in the same general area, (seven miles apart). For the most part one is usually better for daytime movement than the other. One heats up, the other slows down. After a few years you kinda figure out when, to be where. Very rarely are they both showing the same action, at the same time. And sometimes they are both slow. That's when I'll hit some close by state land. Nice to have options!

Holy smokes look at them brow tines! That is an absolute monster buck! Let me clean the drool off my tablet, before going to bed, and dreaming of seeing a buck like that on our property. Really hope ya get a crack at him this fall.

Welcome! Look forward to hearing more from you! Just pull up a seat and join right in anytime!

This your home property? If it is, be patient. Bucks may be hanging in that big swamp below you, staying cool. I personally know of a couple nice ones spotted not far from you, within the last two or three weeks! Come hunting season, I think you will be fine buddy.

Gentle On My Mind, was always my favorite song from Glen. I remember years ago, working a gig somewhere and playing that song. I looked out to see my Mom smiling and moving to the music. A good memory. Thanks Glen. RIP.

I was talking to a young hunter over the weekend, and he asked me the question I posted. I too, really never documented a difference between dry and wet years. But as wooly says here, "It's hard to imagine a wet spring and summer wouldn't be beneficial to antler growth over a season of hot, dry, drought conditions". Almost to the letter, that is what my response was to him. And I'm almost certain, a buck that would be 100 inches in a dry year, would not be 140 in a wet one. So the average two year old and older buck, gaining a "few inches" is very probable in a year like this one. But I was impressed with the young mans question, so I posted it here. That's a whole different topic. Covered and debated, by hundreds of pages, right here on this forum.

Seeing a lot of trail cam pictures lately, of some really nice bucks this year! Thats awesome and very exciting, especially when they are on your hunting grounds! But I am wondering, if the wet spring and summer, we've had here in NY, has helped put on a couple extra inches on the average NY buck, this year? Everyting seems to have really grown this year. So the bucks were eating more nutritious food, while the antlers were developing. So my question is, would this add more inches to a bucks antlers as opposed to a very dry year? What do you all think?

Whoa!!! Awesome buck! Hope ya get your tag on him.

anyone name their deer? Whats your favorite?

That &#@$?! deer, just winded me, blew, and high tailed it outa there! -
I've used Leupold scopes for decades, on shotguns, in-line black powder guns, and rifles. Never once had a problem. My buddy uses Nikon, he seems to do great with them. I bought a rifle with a Zeiss on it. And it is amazing!
