There is always a tractor or wheeler running on our farm property. The deer are used to it. They will stand or be bedded down only a few yards away as you just putt by them, and occasionally we even see good bucks, coming in or out in the dark. Just putt by and don't stop or raise the motor RPM's. If they see you walking though, they will be gone hundeds of yards before you even get to them. We never park closer than 500 yards from where we hunt. And always park on a field edge, in tall grass, or hedgerow, as most all our stands are in woods or thicker areas. But my lake property is entirely different. It's a huge funnel on a side ridge. We ALWAYS walk into our set ups over there. It really does all come down to what the local deer are conditioned to seeing and hearing on a given property.

It always puts a smile on this "old" guy's face, when I see the "youngsters" eager to participate in outdoor stuff! Here's my grandson/hunting buddy.

Man that is cool! Congrats again Fletch!

As the intrest in MMA grows, so will the money made by the MMA fighters. Once that happens, boxing will play second fiddle to MMA. Lets face it, Mayweather's fights for the most part are boring. On the other hand, even the undercards of a MMA fight are more fun to watch than most of the championship boxing matches. The writing is already on the wall for the future of boxing.

Awesome! First posted kill of the season! A hearty congratulations to that young man. Looks like his future is bright!

Sweet looking rifle! Hope to see a picture of it lying across a deer this fall!

I too find it calming to sharpen all mine and my buddies hunting knives. I use a Arkansas wett stone that I purchased over 40 years ago. Still working on dialing in my shoulder for bow season. Put sling on my dream rifle yesterday. All rifles, bows and crossbows are dialed in and ready to hunt. All hunting clothes and new Muck boots are good to go. Still have five more ground blinds that need to be brushed in and touched up. Will get those done this weekend before my next bout with the surgeon on the 7th.

Thanks Matt, I may just take you up on that offer! Just starting to get back into shooting form after my shoulder surgery in May. I hope to bow hunt as long as possible after next year. But won't be able to hunt trad this year. Hoping to get started this winter in my basement. Once I go back to a trad bow, that is how I'll finish out my bow hunting career. As long as I can stay healthy and pull full draw, I'll be hunting! Between you and moog5050, I hope to get all set up, with advice and everything I need to make this happen! I so much look forward to standing over a deer taken with trad gear again!!!

Welcome! Good to have you with us! Look forward to hearing more from you. Just pull up a seat and join in anytime! Best of luck in the coming season!

Awesome! Tell us more about that bow, it's beautiful! I want to go back to a traditional bow for next year. To come full circle. Killed my first bow deer with a recurve, want to kill my last bow deer with one.

Leaving a sanctuary! We have a 25 to 30 acre area that is so thick it's almost impenetrable for humans, but not the deer. We leave this area alone and never venture inside of it. We do however hunt the escape runs and trails leading in and out of it, in the surrounding hemlocks. We have stands and blinds to take advantage of most any wind direction. It is the best bedding area around, and the deer pile up in there when the bordering state land gets pressure. Over many, many years, this has consistently paid off for us.

Hoping all comes back good for ya Larry. Will keep you in my thoughts and prayers buddy. Burger, fries and a coke afterwards?

I kinda enjoy trigger time myself. Different distances, shooting positions, rounds, wind speed is all great fun for me. Tinkering with stuff till ya get it "just right". Wish I could do more range time!

Plus one! I've met and dealt with Bill in person. Good guy. He is no different from many of us, when we get a new firearm or hunting item. And whatever someone else buys with their hard earned money, does not have to please me. Only them. And if it doesn't please them it's really no skin off my azz. Again....JMO.

Yup. My 7mm-08 is about as sweet shooting as they come as far as recoil goes. Shooting 140gr Nosler BT's, the last two bucks killed, dropped in their tracks and never twitched an ear. Even pre surgery on my shoulder last year, I could shoot a box of ammo, with no problem. JMO Usually when Dinsdale speaks, I listen. He's one of the most knowledgeable hunters and shooters on here. And a pretty good guy to boot. Again, JMO.

What a beautiful day to ge out there with your little first mate! Nice set up you have too! Good luck buddy. No matter what ya catch, it will be an awesome day! No Joel? Or is he more into the green fish? Keep safe out there. -

The peak time for us year after year, when bucks are on their feet, actively running the doe, crossing the roads, standing in the middle of a field, and doing the crazy rut things, is November 10th. Or three days on either side of that date. It's easy to plan vacation. We pick the same week each and every year.

Oh come on. That limb isn't that bad. Nothing a little duct tape couldn't fix. Welcome back to the dark side with the compound! Seriously though, that is tough to swallow, with your main bow down this close to season. Are there any other hunting limbs you could put on there to get through the season?

From NY to Texas, keeping you folks in our thoughts and prayers. Keep safe y'all.
