Round two of Saratoga Lake on Friday. Well over 30 bass boated. Couple pike thrown in along with some good sized rock bass. So much fun just being out there! May be fishing with a member here, up there soon if we can match up our schedules! Hoping to make it happen! -
Just click on a members name. A box will come up with their info and you will see a little message box. Click that and you will be able to send that member a personal message, off the main forum. Don't forget to title the message as that is required to send it. You can get more detailed in a PM with info that, perhaps you don't want "the whole world " to know.

I have private land to hunt. But have hunted Partridge Run on and off since I was a teenager, many moons ago. So not really giving up my "spots", just sharing them. When things get slow on our property, I still like to head over to PR and take a walk around. It really is a beautiful area. And I've enjoyed some good hunts there over the years. 15 or 20 years ago, there seemed to be a hunter behind every other tree over there. With overflowing parking areas. But now days the place sees very little pressure. And except for the opener of firearms season, it's almost deserted now. I have no problems giving you a couple spots to get you started up there. Just PM me. From there, you will most likely branch out to mark your own "spot". Also Adkhunter1590 is familiar with that area too, and he is a VERY experienced hunter who could really help you out. With much younger legs than I. ......lol

Welcome to the forum RyAn, glad you found us and it's always nice to have a young hunter join us! I too, am almost certain that, that wetlands area is off limits for hunting. And I agree with Adkhunter1590, that Partridge Run is a great deer hunting spot to hone your skills. There are plenty of deer to be hunted. It's large enough to find your own "space" with trail cams and such if you want. It is a bit out of the way but well worth the effort to get there for the quality of the hunting experience you will have. I too will give you a spot or two up there, that have worked for me in the past. And with less hunters there every year, it will be as close to hunting "private" land as you can get in this area. Good to hear you have a strong desire to hunt! Feed it and hunt as much as you can! If I can help you, I will, as I'm close to the Albany hilltowns. Best of luck to you young man.

I respect your opinion. That being said, I think you are wrong to advise someone, just getting into shooting crossbow, or bow for that matter. To take 60 yard shots or even 50 yard shots at deer. We have all heard your story, many times, of the 59 yard heart shot. Thats all well and good for you. But for a young hunter, or one just getting started, this is not an advisable shot, under any circumstances! Long range shooting is for the experts. Not too many of us qualify. Too much can go wrong when shooting ANY crossbow or bow beyond 30 yards, unless you have years of dedicated experience. Deer are not stationary targets! I've been a blood tracker for many years. This is what "MY" experience has proven many times over.

#1 See my 13 year old grandson, kill his first deer! #2 Shoot a deer with my bow, after shoulder surgery in May. #3 Shoot a deer with my new to me Sako 85 Classic in 270. #4 Enjoy every second that I'm out there.

The hand warmers!!!!! What would I do without them! They have literally sent deer to the freezer, by keeping me out there, "just a little longer"! -

You get the full bow season using a bow. Crossbow, only the last two weeks of bow season. Can be used all of firearms season if desired. Learning a bow will take some time and plenty of practice. If you started with a bow now, and practiced at minimum, three days a week, you could probably be proficient enough to hunt this year. Anyone could buy a crossbow, sight it in and be ready to hunt almost immediately. Effective range for both is about 30 yards. Good archers can extend that a bit. As well as crossbow. But for myself I keep my shots at deer, 30 yards and under for both. But it's definitely fun to stretch it as far as you can during PRACTICE! Cost for both are about the same. No need to start with the most expensive. But you generally get what you pay for quality wise. Some very good used bows out there, at a decent price. But find one that fits YOU and is comfortable. It is a wonderful time to be in the woods during archery season. Deer are for the most part less pressured, and the weather tends to be nicer, compared to later in the firearms season. I use, and have killed deer with both. The bow will always be my first love. But the crossbow is easy and fun to use. Try going to an archery shop that stocks both and ask for a demonstration or better yet, shoot them both! See what will fit your needs and choose what makes you happy. You are the only one you have to please. Good luck! Hope to see you in the early season deer woods!

We had a great day! Well over 20 bass boated in six hours. A couple decent ones mixed in. Just to be out on the water was awesome therapy! My buddy Bill had me laughing till I cried. He's quite the character. Icing shoulder now but it held up!

Yes I've done good there many times. China town and the south shore from stonie point, to browns beach, has been good to me over the years too . High 60's is what I'm hearing for water temps. I'll know more tomorrow.

Thanks buddy! If I bomb out, I'll have to call Joel for advice! Bass! May hook a northern or two though. Fishing mostly with jigs and 10" worms on the main lake humps and weedbeds . Some crank baits off the weed edges in 12 to 15 feet of water. Along with a spinnerbait here and there. And thank you too sir. I'll post back here after the trip with a couple pic's. If no fish then, a couple old buds, laughing their butts off!

Heading up in the morning. Taking my neighbor from our lake property to renew my exclusive hunting rights, on his 75 acres. First time out for me this year, hopefully the repaired shoulder holds up! Reports I'm getting, say the water is high and the bite has been off a bit. Anyone fished up there recently? At least I won't be working! And I know the laughs will be plentiful, even if the fish are not.

How could anyone, possibly get any enjoyment from hunting, if you are always "under pressure" to perform? Most of the "hunting shows", these day are just that, shows. With about as much reality as Saturday morning cartoons. The poaching bum, should have lost his hunting privileges for life! As that is what hunting is, a privilege! And in my opinion, if you are caught poaching you should have the privilege taken away. As you obviously have no respect for hunting or the game pursued. Big thumbs up to the REAL hunters that turned the bum in!
