  1. Nice shot! And congrats on the fine table fare!!!
  2. Well I got what I was looking for today. A nice big doe came trotting across the field right to me at about 40 yards. But loping along behind her was a small fawn. I centered the cross hairs on her shoulder. But never flipped the safty off. I've had a good season. Got meat in the freezer. She's bedded with her fawn tonight. I'm good with my decision. Give and take. A fitting way to end my season.
  3. Also, congrats to all the successful hunters yesterday ! Especially the father son team with the two awesome bucks! Thats what dreams are made of right there!
  4. A balmy 8 degrees here in the hilltowns. The frost heave is almost 6 inches in the woods. And it's like walking on a bag of potato chips with each step. Probably wait till first light to hunt my way in. At least that way I'll see what I scare up. Storm rolling in for this evening . Should be a good hunting day! Good luck to all venturing out!
  5. After an eventful mourning hunting with my grandson, him grunting and bleating a buck within 30 yards, twice with no deer down. It was pretty much the same for the afternoon hunt as well. My hunting buddy made a couple of small pushes to us from thick areas as we posted on the opposite field edges. And since I have no buck tag the only deer I could have shot were bucks!!! Three different small bucks and one big bodied and racked 8 pt. came across the field towards us at different times. A bunch of doe cut the inside corner of the other field edge moving too fast for a good shot. They just never popped out or slowed enough for a clean shot. Back out with my buddy again in the morning. Would never see this amount of bucks if I was looking to shoot one! Seems like that's the way it always works though.
  6. Christmas came early to me, and I'm truly honored and humbled by the absolutely beautiful turkey display. Sent to me by maytom. Got home from hunting and there was a box waiting for me in my den/study. Couldn't wait to see what it looked like! After taking it out and unwrapping, in my hands was something that literally took my breath away! I am astounded by the kindness and generosity of the members of this forum. I've seen it first hand, many times. Paul contacted me a week or so ago and said he wanted to give me the first of his new designs on a wall display for a turkey fan and beards. I was admiring his craftsmanship on this and some of his other threads. So I was totally awestruck when he told me of his kind intentions. But to tell him I am not near the turkey hunter, he and some others are from this forum. He said to start filling it up, hunting with my grandson! So that is what we will do. And when my hunting days are done, it will go to my grandson. As a reminder of our hunts together and the kindness, generosity and workmanship of a man I have yet to meet. I did promise, that I will pay it forward as he has done to me. And I hope to soon meet up with and share a beer, perhaps get some turkey advice, from a friend, maytom. Thank you very much sir. Was thinking of under the euro mount from last year? Or centered under the paintings?
  7. With his Jr. Archery, he can not use crossbow. Which I think is dumb. But hopefully the regs will be changed for next year. We did bring his bow, but with so much on to keep warm, he can't get a good sight picture and would definitely have string slap on his bow arm. He's good with it, not shooting, today. Said he's not ready this year anyways . But next year will be his year!!!! Tomorrow he's going to the Bills game with some baseball team mates. So hopefully this afternoon we can get a chance at a nice fat doe and call it a season together. Then do some small game and coyote hunting together. God, I love being out here with him!
  8. Heck......I'd try one of wooly's yote yummies! Then wash it down with one of wooly's bombastic beverages ! Gulp..........Cheers !
  9. Way to go phade and moog!!! Congratulations on a great season!!!
  10. My grandson and I are out. His feet got cold so we will take a break to warm up. We were set up on a south facing slope, below a cut corn field. In the thick nasty's of hemlock and white pine. Longest shot is about 50 yards. We had deer moving around us most of the morning. But the only clear shot was on a two year old 8pt. And I have no buck tag. Grandson grunted and bleated him within 30 yards twice! He's only 12 and can't wait to hunt with firearm in a couple years. His eyes when he brought the buck in were huge! ...... Will warm up those size 14 tootsies and put some food in his belly. Then my buddy will do a couple small pushes to us later on. Good luck to all who are out today!
  11. Only way to find out for sure, is to get back out there grow! Good luck!
  12. At the first sight of anyone screaming obscenities, with a firearm in their hands. If I'm with a family member, I'm putting myself between them and the disturbance, and heading quickly in the opposite direction. I tell my family to always be aware of what is going on around you. No matter where they may be in public. Not afraid but aware . And to move away from any public disturbance . I can not fathom why the authorities were not called when those "people" entered the store, like they did. In these times, you must stay diligent and aware. Even with a CCP.
  13. Congratulations cynthiafu ! Nice to see your persistence pay off!
  14. I agree with Pygmy. 120ish. But that takes nothing away from a true trophy buck!!! In my hunting area, bucks like that are far and few between. Congrats on a dandy buck!
  15. That's a pretty cool four point! I've never shot one that big. But have a few six points similar to to your four. Getting one like that would be a nice addition to my collection of racks!
  16. Wow! Great buck Zeek!!! Congratulations! Way to hang in there and get it done! Awesome picture with the kids!
  17. My check will be forthcoming as well. Thoughts and prayers for a full recovery ECO Davey.
  18. So sorry for the loss of your dad. In good shape and running order, with all you have listed I'd put the value at $1500 to $2000. Hard to say without seeing the boat though. Good luck with the sale.
  19. What a beautiful Buck! Way to tough it out! That hide would look awesome if you decide to have it done, with all the white on him. Congratulations!!!!
  20. Congratulations schroon 87! Nice job! Way to go!
  21. Cool pic's! He obviously likes those little morsels enough, to dance for them!
  22. Beautiful! Absolutely top notch work my friend. And such a cool idea too.
