    I Got Schooled

I took my nephew with me to fish Saratoga Lake yesterday. He's only 20 but an accomplished tournament angler with three wins under his belt. We caught a bunch of fish, he caught more. I caught a few nice ones he caught the biggest. All my spots did produce fish, he told me why they were there. I used my usual baits that always work for me , he used totally different baits. In the end, I learned some stuff and we equally had a great time!
  2. If you buy the arrows there the cost is usually free. I was quoted last week from Havock Archery one dollar per arrow to cut and glue inserts. On arrows I was given.
  3. I did pretty good. I know 1 when I see 1.
  4. I have a question. Did you actually pass HS math, or were you the class genius or teachers pet?
  5. Prevailing wind direction in my area during hunting season is NNW.
  6. Just kidding. Ive met her and she is very nice!
  7. Now that you have your diamond. Does you know who, get one for her finger?
  8. Very nice! You are good to go now! Looks like we are back on for Thatcher! I bet it shoots as good as it looks! Best of luck!
  9. The kids loved Willie Wonka! Always heard he was a great guy off camera too. Very funny man. RIP.....
  10. He's made millions of dollars playing a game. Been coddled since beginning college. Paid more millions for endorsements. I'll bet there are millions of folks, black and white that would love to be so oppressed. Myself included. Our constitution gives every citizen the right to protest. I'll respect his right. But not him.
  11. I used to use them quite a bit and this is what worked for me. One on left and right same hight spaced about 20 inches apart. I would always step and bring the other foot up to level with the other. And always had 4 levels of contact to the tree. And would go higher than the stand to step down slightly when entering and a slight step up when going down. Seemed like less effort climbing and desending plus felt safer and more secure, even though it takes more steps. And ALWAYS stay safe and strap in!
  12. Teaching him the three point anchor. Kisser button, tip of nose and ear lobe. Proper grip and form. He soaks it all in. Good student. I'm no archery instructor but know the basics to get him going. I've been playing around with bows for 30+ years. So far all good! Having a good bow is a huge benefit too.
  13. Great pic's! I gotta get out west to fish with some of you guy's!
  14. All's well in Endwell! We watched the game today. A real nail biter! And an awesome championship! Congratulations to those kids, coaches and all who supported them. Way to go!
  15. We got it all set up today! Added a whisker biscuit pro, a kisser button, cut arrows to length and backed off the draw weight to 55 pounds. The bow came with an awesome spot hog sight. Got everything squared up and I shot it and made a couple small sight adjustments. And handed him his bow. These are his first three arrows! Our local deer population should be very afraid this year! He is so happy! I'm so proud. Thanks Tacks.
  16. These are literally the first shots from my grandson and his new bow. Finished getting it set up for him today. Not bad! He will be taking his bow course September 17th. He still has lots of practicing to do before hunting season. One of the proudest moments in my life will be when I watch him take his first deer! Thanks again Tacks!
  17. Big Boy fits! Awesome buck. Hope to see you in a picture with him this fall! Best of luck!
  18. On public land, if it was any kind of "official" forestry project, it would be clearly marked. So that would seem to rule out a study of bugs or critters. That was my first guess. Then being a musician, I thought maybe cajon drums, for some kind of drum beat pow-wow. But cajon's are sealed on all sides except for a sound hole, these would be too small and wouldn't be left in the woods as moisture would deaden the sound. So I still have no idea. Never seen anything like it.
  19. Not a Cowboys fan but Romo isn't a bad quarterback. He just can not stay healthy or win playoff games. Might be a good time for change down in D.
  20. Just when you thought you heard it all.....jeez.
  21. Welcome to the forum! What area of the state are you located? Are you looking for help shooting your recurve or help actually hunting? Or both? There are a few good traditional archers on here. And a bunch of very experienced hunters too. So perhaps someone my be able to help, but time is getting short to the start of the season.
  22. A sasquatch peeking around a tree! You can see his head and right shoulder. And right hand gripping the tree. It's all very clear!
  23. You should be winning every game with the Ryan brothers at the helm! They are "proven" winners, right? Marcia from Brady Bunch with her mini skirts and fuzzy sweaters, kept my young mind active! So did all of the Hee - Haw girls!
  24. We have atv's but it always seems we shoot them in the thick stuff or swampy areas where we still have a good drag to get them to the machines. I too have found the plastic sleds helpful. But always find a stiff drink or two or three helps to sleep at night after a drag.
