What a great team you two are! Awesome job and great find! Luna comes from good stock and showing it. And looks like her handler is pretty good too!

As long as the safety part like ears and eyes protection and tree stand, if you use one, safety is addressed, let them have all they want of the outdoor world. Let them tag along and explore in the woods. Let them ask questions, lots and lots of questions, because they will! Show and teach them in words and phrases they can understand. Be soft and be firm when needed. And hopefully kindle that little spark in their souls into a roaring fire, for nature, hunting and the great outdoors! That you can share together, until the time comes, for them to pass the flame to another young person.

You just make too much sense to me! Thanks! 100 likes and a thumbs up!

If you have the smaller broadheads at least try shooting one before you buy more arrows. They may shoot just fine. If you put most any modern broadhead through the heart, lungs, you will have a dead deer. Good luck!

If you put the one inch broadheads in the vitals, they will work just fine. You need to re square your rest and sights back to center. The fishtailing arrow means you are off center.

Every deer I have ever killed has been "special" to me. But some more than others, because of a history with that deer, or something unique about the hunt or the deer itself. That stands out in my mind more than others. I have never put a tape to any of the antlers of the bucks I have been fortunate enough to kill. Even though I'm sure more than a couple would make P&Y, for whatever that's worth. To me numbers and tallys don't mean anything! I can look at a picture and vividly recall details of past hunts and deer that were killed many years ago. But there are a few, that just stand out in my mind more than others. And not just because of what they had or didn't have on their head.

Every deer should be special to the hunter. Every deer is a trophy! Only a loser would put down any deer a hunter legally decides to kill. Be Proud Of What You Shoot!

Welcome back! Hope your NY hunting season is a good one! Good luck to you.

I think everyone agree's he is a mature buck. I think just about everyone agree's he is a shooter. Is it worth bickering over if he is is three, three and a quarter, four or four and a half? Jeeezzzz! We need to lighten up and just get out and hunt!

After 41 hunting seasons,I have killed two over 200 pounds. A 209 and my heaviest, 212. Will have to take a picture of a picture to post later. Have a few in the high 180s, low 190s. -
I want one of those soup thermos this year. Thinking that some nice hot homemade soup, will keep me out a little longer on a cold, damp November day.

He's big enough for me. Where do you want me to set up?

The smile on Luna and her handler is absolutely priceless! Thats what it's all about right there! Wishing you a long and successful tracking career together! Nice find!

How close are you to Albany county? I can't guaranty a deer, but would be willing to set you both up for a hunt on a good spot in 4H. I do not have an extra DMP for this area though.

I strongly feel that you can make "luck" happen with preparation. If what you are doing is not working, switch stands, properties if possible, times you hunt, stay longer on stand. Be adaptable! We all have times where no matter what we do, we come home empty handed. It's all part of hunting as you stated. By changing your set up's or where you set up will keep things a bit more interesting. It can be very frustrating for a new hunter at first, until they gain the confidence and skills needed to be successful. You sometimes can do everything right with no results. Just keep at it, and learning, and the results will follow! Refuse to lose! It can go from bust to a buck in an instant! Hang in there! Best of luck on a successful season, this year!

Really? Your wife doesn't like that you hunt so much?
grampy replied to nyantler's topic in General Hunting
Depending what time the service is, you could maybe get in an early morning and late afternoon hunt. May as well get her used to what's to come, right away! -
Quick peak at the property.

Looks like you have a great spot on your property! Nice work and good luck to you this season! -
Good luck to you and Luna. John Jeannenney was my mentor in Deer Search. And I learned a lot from him. His knowledge of tracking and tracking dogs is known worldwide. The bloodline of their dogs, in my opinion, is second to none in the tracking line. I have had the pleasure to be the "dope on a rope" behind Sabina, one of the Jeannenney's most famous dogs. And I tracked down and killed the wounded buck that gored Sabina and busted up John, years ago. Due to knee surgeries, I had to give up tracking for Deer Search. But will still help a friend when needed. I encourage any hunters out there to read the books on tracking wounded deer, written by John Jeannenney. Even if you don't have a dog, the information given about blood tracking is worth much more than the price of the books. And may help you recover a wounded deer that might not have been otherwise.

I have more than enough slug guns. I need more rifles! Still, this is an awesome gun at an awesome price! I'm really suprised that it's not sold already.
