It's been a while since I was unable to recover the arrow from a pass-through, but that happened this weekend. I'm sure its out there, but it made for a dicey few minutes as I physically didn't see arrow impact other than hearing what I thought was a shoulder/rib cracking. Turns out that was a dead deer running and he died leaning against a tree after the oil ran out of the engine. The arrow tells a lot of the story to back-up what is usually seen (or not). Last year I had a lung and liver hit. Arrow stayed in the buck for some reason. He bedded in between me and a hunting partner (without me knowing) and subsequently pulled the arrow out with his teeth. My partner jumped him walking back to me so we got out of dodge before we made a search attempt. Moog came by and we got some dinner and then the three of us went out for the search - four hours after the shot. We found the bloody bed and the arrow and the dark blood showing the liver hit, but once he left the bed from being bumped initially we didn't find the buck that night - no blood to be found after the bed. Next morning Larry302 came out and we ended up finding the buck about 60 yards from the bed a couple rows in the corn. Bumping a deer that will clearly die is a horrible experience. It happens despite best efforts from time to time, but you just need to keep composure and make the best decision possible after it happens. Avoiding it in the first place is paramount.

New Cabela's outfitter IR trail cameras
phade replied to QDM4ME's topic in Trail Camera Reviews and Info
The Cabelas cams, while nice, are overpriced Boly cams that can be had on Ebay for less in different cases/bodies. -
Grim Reapers are the only mech heads I'll shoot at the current setup. I've only ever had one non recovery with a grim reaper and that was every bit the Indian's fault and not the bow/BH. I will say with the number of kills I have with the head, a few of them covered up some shot sins. I think that is a big testament. With the heavy arrow and high power shooters - the stupid large cut mechanicals do some damage. Moog shot a doe with the big rage head and I tracked the doe by lung parts and not blood. It literally lost a whole lung in pieces before it piled up. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

Did you hear the guys shot? Look, any quarterbacking beyond tips of where to start (from the beginning) does more damage than good at this point. I don't think anyone wants to shoot the shoulder knuckle - that's what people refer to as the "shoulder". The shoulder paddle is actually very easily pushed through by most all modern arrow and BH combos for an adult bowhunter. It's not a goal for any hunter to have to hit it but most people will kill a deer easily should the shot and deer go that way. The knuckle - it's a small area but if you hit it, odds go down big. I can't say I believe in the lull as an actual event, but the lull feels real to us as hunters. Completely logical explanations of why we perceive it that way. Studies show increasing daytime activity as deer push through October, but what we see of that is different. Pressure/changing food sources, shifting ranges, etc. All perceived as a decrease in activity during day. That said, we sure as heck are not seeing it this season. Been a good season as far as sightings go.

Same here. Been having issues with Tapatalk and even using on a desktop. Definitely dragging on to the point I am not visiting as much as before. Certainly understand the amount and scope of work to make a site run, but the longer it goes the more impact it will have.

There is way too much Tuesday morning quarterbacking going on right now. People are telling themselves stories. Inexperienced tracker, minimal details, and he needs to get back out there in light to make a better assessment. Let's not pull the cart before the horse. The buck I killed this weekend entered the paddle and exited mid chest and about mid rib count opposite side @ 30 yards. Not a whole heck of a lot of blood due to the deer being slight quarter to and facing up a hillside. Both lungs were toast. Loud crack at impact going through paddle and ribs. We failed to find blood on first 20 minutes of looking at last light and he only went about 70 yds. Let's give this guy a chance this am. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

Occam's razor. Some people just like to be devil's advocate or open a can of worms on what clearly was a light-hearted post. Could it be poisoned? Sure. Could it be mad cow disease? Sure. Could it have just ate a cherry flavored Alka-Seltzer? Sure.

Not yet - I will get a call into them tomorrow. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

The foam is from lung damage. Further evidence he was struck by a car. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

Been having the same problems everyone else has noted. Still acting wonky.

That had nothing to do with it - A sizeable percentage of stock was purchased on the market by an activist investor - one who forces companies to divest, go private, and sale. The activist made their intentions known and Cabela's decided to seek a buyout. BPS leveraged their cash on hand and partnered with some well-known business to lead the funding venture. This guy is making a fortune - there is almost a 20% premium being paid. That's it in a nut-shell.

Glad to hear it's not worse than it is - recovery timeline long?

Did you turn the unit upside down? I hear that is a suggestion for people. -

Got wet on am walk in. Reeds gave in to the trail through marsh. Soaked. Climbed tree and reached for platform to be met by a handful of coon poop. All over me. I deal with it. Slightly sweet and nutty undertones. Saw several doe and passed due to drag. Wind turned more SE than E and a shooter that Moog set up on had worked in downwind and let me know I stunk. Despite the coon cover scent. Pm looks wet. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk -
I don't know how I missed it but apparently Remington ceased production for the ultra slug. I was pretty bummed because I own a 20g with thumb hole model and that thing shoots lights out. Last year I was looking to buy another as a backup actually just the regular wood stock version with the bull barrel rather than the thumb hole. Planned to use it in crap weather in all honesty and I simply failed to pick one up. Now, it's pretty hard to find. I checked a few places online and found one thumb hole new for $850! Wow. I know some of you guys are fun nuts. Anyone have a lead on a old new stock? Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
