  1. Use the word "cellular camera" otherwise he will think he can just steal it and be done with it. As for DEC I can't speak to what they can do, but the DEC officer who taught our bowhunting course made it clear that they are able to enforce all New York state laws, so they really have a wide berth to do whatever they want to.
  2. I don't believe anybody here, including me, used the word brandishing because of him having a gun in the woods. We used it because of what he did with that gun; what he said.
  3. This is easy. He shouldn't play football. Every concussion a person receives is associated with higher odds of long term brain damage. Receiving multiple ones at his age is extremely bad for his health. Essentially 100% of NFL athletes will have CTE. You know this. I shouldn't even have to tell you. I am militant about this sort of thing: i believe we need to immediately cease all activities associated with high odds of concussions in children. We are not caring for our children to tolerate them being in these high-injury sports. They are kids, it is our duty to protect them from themselves. EDIT: I see you pulled him. This is the right move! Somebody said pull him if he's doesn't have good odds of a scholarship. I disagree, pull anyway. There is a reason why essentially 100% of NFL athletes with autopsies show CTE. It's a devastating activity on the body. Heck, half of NFL athletes are forced into retirement because of chronic injury. I have a super dim view on the sport as a whole. it just chews people up and spits them out.
  4. Literally the last two packs came out of the freezer yesterday at my house. I still have three steaks left, a lot of ground (going to make a huge chilli soon), and a bunch of costanza sausages.
  5. To be clear if the description in first post was accurate, he did brandish a weapon. Not only is that grossly illegal but also a clear and fast indicator that this guy is an abject fool, so who knows what he'll do. Did he really play out a scenario in his mind in which a chat about property lines descends into a life or death gun fight?
  6. Yeah, I think it can be as much as simply running an extra shift and then reselling it themselves.
  7. What is with people? Lease costs you hundreds/year if not a grand or two per person and he just thinks mowing the spot entitles him to using it?
  8. Just had a go with the 370 again in the basement. At 14 yards off-hand I'm within 1/2" of what I'm aiming at. The thing shoots like a laser.
  9. Will happen in every state ones the progs are finished.
  10. First I saw was engorging itself on my daughter a few years back from NH. And after several years of hunting now the second one I saw was last year. I went for a walk at lunch on a well traveled trail. I stepped a few feet off the trail to take a pee and later that evening saw a tick crawling up my pants. I live in fear of long term illness, so I am pretty good with the permithrin
  11. I have more tags than I can fill in Western NY. Bow tag, regular season tag, two DMPs. I'm forgetting some in there, it's possible to get like a half dozen deer or so without even getting other people's DMPs
  12. Think it was 49 F yesterday morning. Today I drive to work and it's 50 with massive condensation on the windshield. I'm already annoying my kids going on about how nice this is and how hunting season is just around the corner.
  13. If they were knockoffs and NAP made those in USA it would probably lie on the package. I saw a vid by G5 and some of the Montec knockoffs are well packaged. Given what the chinese are doing with these I might want to only buy broadheads from stores, frankly.
  14. I do 100 gr on my 370 because same weight I use on my compound. It groups very nicely with this. If you do put the nikon bolt scope--which is a great scope at this price--realize that the scope is built for slower xbows because it's an older scope (330 FPS). Its 20 and 30 yard lines work out great but I seem to recall its 40 yard line is more like 45 ish or so for this particular xbow. I always verify each year before xbow season starts. I also recommend determining the proper stock adjustment on this and then snugly taping it in place. I once spooked a deer because of the clicking sound of the stock (it has a tiny bit of play).
  15. Too bad. The specs are nice but you are probably right. The summit open-climber is around 15 lbs
  16. Are they mentally ill? As for a climber, if you want a comfortable one get the summit viper SD and if you carry it any meaningful distance get molle straps from ebay as the ones that come with it will cut gouges into your shoulders. I love my SD, comfortable as hell to sit in. Don't get a steel one, you just don't want the weight. I still kind of want one of these because they are crazy light. https://x-stand.com/product/the-x-1/
  17. My hardest seasons was 2016, which was my second. 2015 was my first and I spooked deer constantly, but I got smart and decided to hunt from trees for 2016. In 2016 I took a buck within an hour of opening, with my bow. I then hunted hard the rest of the season, going out around 24 times and during those 24 sits I saw a grand total of two more deer while in stand. Just brutal. It was public land. You have my condolences. Why is it so bad? Is it private land? Can you not food plot, etc.?
  18. This is the benefit to not using cams. Two years ago I had a cam image of a monstrous buck laying down right in front of the camera around noon. I can't remember, if I'm perfectly honest, if it was the same day I had been hunting that morning and had just left early, but in 2016 something similar happened: I got to my tree (public land) and around 15 min earlier just as the sun was starting to come up, a good size buck was feeding, which I saw on my tablet as I sat up in the tree.
  19. Without too much detail let's just say that every morning I have a cup of coffee and then things happen. On hunting mornings I'm out of the house quickly, drinking coffee in the car. The moment I get to my spot that TP is getting used. And i do mean every single time.
  20. I can't speak for everyone but this is the most important thing in my pack. As for my obvious #1 rule: go where the deer are. Hunting highly pressured public land makes for a very poor success rate.
  21. I think my bow is good. Paper testing a couple years ago showed it shooting straight at various distances, and it shoots very consistent groups. All of these deer have been with a mechanical and I'm switching to fixed this year.
  22. Answers are not public. I was inclined to add a bunch of sub-category answers to include poundage of bow, broad head type, and arrow weight, but there could end up being too many answers, so if you have any insight (e.g. you went from 350 to 600 grain arrows and now you're shooting through trees :)) feel free to post. I'll start. I've yet to ever get complete pass-through, which I suppose we have to define as the arrow not only making two holes but exiting fully through the second one. Of the half dozen or so deer I've hit with draw weight of 50-60 lbs and mechanical heads I've never even made an exit hole. This includes a few deer that have piled up in short distance due to double-lung. I presume the arrow lost its energy on the other side of the ribs in those cases.
  23. I saw some weird stuff yesterday like they had been selling $35 lb hex weights for $7. Saw it right on the price tag. Makes no sense, as those are worth 4-5X that. $54 for that range finder is killer. Going to stop by after work and see if I can get anything nice to resell on craigslist A few years back I got killer dealers on a few BB guns at walmart, way under market value.
