  1. Happened on my last deer a week back though I never did find the front of the arrow...anywhere. No idea where it went, and the deer didn't make it far. I think you did what I did: shot far enough forward that the shoulder was able to snap it, that simple...
  2. Wait, do you really mean that stuff like wars, economy, corruption are more important than who hooked up on the bachelor? If you want to know why this country is looking down the barrel of a gun you need to know only two statistics: Number of people who watched the superbowl in 2016: 114 million Number of people who watched the first presidential debate: 84 million
  3. As close to sunrise and sunset as possible. I've been running two cams on one spot now for exactly a month. Here is the day the deer showed up and the exact time. At this location it's interesting to note they actually are not there much at night. SEPTEMBER 8 (1:32 am), 10 (10:49 am), 15 (5:46 pm), 16 (10:00 AM), 18 (5;07 pm), 19 (5:40 PM), 20 (4:32 pm, 9:51 pm), 22 (7:36 am, 11:44 pm), 23 (2:34 pm) , 25 (6:37 am, 9:13 am), 26 (7:46 am, 8:32 am), 27 (6:40 pm), 28 (6:12 pm), 30 (6:03 am) OCTOBER 2 (5:40 pm), 6 (9:21 am) Of 20 total sightings over this period only 4-5 were actually during dark hours, and one barely. I did have a number of night pics with nothing in them, though; these may be deer, but I don't date them unless I can confirm with certainty a deer in the pic. Of the remainder, almost half were basically within an hour of sunrise or sunset (on the shooting side of it). Only ONE single sighting between the hours of 11 am and 4 pm, and this was a fawn that shot through pretty quickly (assume mother was somewhere). So, hunting this spot between 11 and 4 would be as close to a complete waste of time as one could have while hunting. Simply not going to see anything. Yet, spending the last two hours before sunset, starting on the 15th (no idea where they were between 9-13) you had about a 1/3rd chance of deer coming under. Also wondering where the hell the deer went after the 2nd. They basically just stopped visiting here. Have to wonder if the momma got taken out.
  4. I also switched recently from 400 to 350 (bow is high 50's lbs). I bought another box of these yesterday not that I need them but $20/box you can't go wrong. Now I have two dozen arrows. I should be good for a while!
  5. Thanks. Seems a lot of people like the Cabela Super Mag, which is no longer sold. One of its upgrades involved a cover for the wheels to avoid brush getting in them. I suppose I could make the same with some plastic circles. I'm also seriously thinking of getting something setup, be it an electric winch on a 12 V or just some block tackle (probably that) to yank this up hills. The spot I hunt is really nice for deer but has some 45 degree banks, if not more. If I could reduce that to 1/3rd with some rope and a couple of wheels I could pull a deer up basically anything.
  6. How much of this is colin? Were ratings falling before he started kneeling? I personally have hated most pro sports my entire life, so I for me news like this is schadenfreude
  7. Yep garbage weather in western NY this morning as well. Didn't bother going out.
  8. Yesterday, as you're no doubt aware now because it's plastered on all the sites, trump said some things that are really not that shocking in a locker room, but unfortunately for trump they got out. And they play to the public very, very badly. Remember Romney's 47% comment? Nothing compared to this. The fallout from his debate has already been spectacularly bad for him. RCP point deficit was 1% on Sept 19, 2% on Sept 26, and is now 5%. 538 has his running odds of a win now at 18.2%. He's even behind in iowa, is barely ahead in arizona. His campaign is completely off the rails. Some top republicans now are distancing themselves, yet again, and asking for him to step aside. If he did, I can think of little better, though I fear too many of his supporters would not vote. Hillary is now more a shoe-in than she ever has been. Just a month out and trump is imploding. 2016 campaign is done. You can stick a fork in it. I really don't think the republican party is capable of correcting what happened this election, though. They may very well nominate a trained monkey next time. What hope is there? I feel the legitimate conservative critical thinkers in the party (I know we all like to think ourselves as such, but the facts tell otherwise) have been infected by the clowns and we cannot separate ourselves properly.
  9. $100 metal cabinet for me. It is true a lot of these safes are hilariously easy to get into. If you don't bolt one down you could fill the bottom with something heavy. An alarm system is even better Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  10. Sunrise depends on your area (last page of ny dec 2016 guide). If it says 6:55 for example it is actually quite bright then. You could get in a bit before that and set up without having to set up in the pitch black.
  11. So after almost killing myself yet again recently, I figure learning the same lesson twice is enough. Time for a cart. Sleds are fine in muck, but nothing beats wheels. Here are the two carts I can find locally. The Muddy one looks fine at $99, but the rotating wheel design of the Hawk is awesome. Also I bet it tolerates light mud a lot better due to two wheels and wider contact point. But, the cart is a lot more money, takes up more space, and is way heavier. I can't find reviews on either of these things! I've never used a cart. Does that design on the hawk look as awesome as it seems or would it really just be a waste of money and gimmick?
  12. I doubt we'll get off so lucky now. Look at bill's views on immigration in 1995. Man, I could go for some of that. Sign me up. Now? Open that border, let everyone in. Bill was not the worst president, though. I think bush was particularly terrible and worse than bill or obama. That said, I would take bush for a third term over hillary right now, believe it or not. I'd also take obama for another year if we could have a complete restart on the election; start with primaries again and just go through it all once more. Maybe cruz vs biden? Couldn't be worse than what we have.
  13. Figured out why deer only hit this spot early morning and at sunset. The sun beats down on this clearing and it is bright and hot.
  14. New spot today. Man it takes me forever to climb. From getting to tree today to finished setting up in climber was 15 min. Way too slow! Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  15. Been waiting all week. Taking tomorrow morning off and will hunt in the morning. Can't get there u tip 7:45 tho!
  16. Mine was when Kaine went back to the well and before getting it out pence said "oh yes, the school yard" insult. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  17. Love These things. Gonna get another box while still $20. Unfortunately I will not be reusing this arrow.
  18. Cspan bandwidth sucks, youtube: Yep, now it's xenophobic, racist, bigoted. It's stunning the change in the political climate in just twenty years.
  19. I even scanned through that page before posting! So the guy I met last year during bow season carrying a 22 for squirrel was breaking the law. That law seems stupid. The one about having a gun with a slug during bow season without a license I can see it makes some sense, but this one doesn't. If I go hunting with my bow I can't have a gun. But if I bring the bow back to the car I can then pick up an rifle and go back into the very same woods legally. Actually on second thought I wonder if it is because some people "bowhunting" and "carrying a rifle for protection" have had in the past a suspicious tendency to use that gun on a bear that was "attacking".
  20. What law specifically says a pistol permit holder cannot carry a pistol while hunting during bow season?
  21. There is no history relevant to one of the candidates' support (Hillary is as generic a politician as we can possibly imagine, text-book, boiler-plate candidate). And the lack of precedent applicable to Trump as a candidate means it's difficult to guess at his support. But, that's where polls come in. Absent polls one could guess Trump has 90% support or 10%. But, unless something about Trump is encouraging anonymous people to lie, we can take the polls quite seriously. There are 8% (I think) undecideds at this point, which can move the election in either direction, but professional pollsters are the best we have right now and they are saying hillary is ahead. I'm inclined to believe it.
  22. Given pence at the debate, the best thing for their ticket right now would be if trump said he's bowing out and nominates pence in his place. That would be truly interesting. I think he'd own the polls at that point.
  23. Given that experience if I hunted that spot again I would bring a shotgun. Coyotes rarely attack people (lol I say that in a thread about them doing it, but anyway...) but if they can't see what you are maybe they don't know and would be more inclined to.
  24. I've still never seen one in NY! I've also learned that the loudest thing in the forest is squirrels. How they are louder than 150 lb deer I don't know.
