Nice deer! Did you get his jaw bone aged?

I have access to: ~400+ acres between 4 properties in 8G ~100 acres on one property in 8H 8X all I hunt is public land

I second what Salmon said. The deer I killed on Saturday in northern PA had at least 15 engorged ticks on it with at least another 10 crawling around. That deer hide never touched my truck. Big fan of the bumper-mounted skinning cranes after Saturday.

Saw a few fresh scrapes in northern PA this weekend while muzzleloader hunting. I haven't had a chance to go out in NY to see if the action is picking up.

I usually have a backup rifle or slug gun under my back seat. We push some nasty brush in 8G, and I have come out of drives questioning if I knocked by gun off. No issue, just switch it with the one in the truck until I have time to get to a gun range to check the zero.

you should put on a webinar so everyone can attend

I've been told by the Mrs. that whatever I spend on hunting, I have to spend an equal or greater amount fixing stuff in the house....sigh...back to sanding drywall

I agree with Eagle rider on the busyness of the reticle. I have an older BDC slug hunter on my 870 SPS Super Slug and I like it a lot more than the newer one I have on my Savage 220. The difference between the two being the older version only has two "bubbles" and the newer version has 4 bubbles I believe. Both pretty decent glass for the $$ and have held zero even with my trigger happy self behind the trigger.

Spaghetti, meatballs, and a side salad. Might have to splurge and open the "Death by Chocolate" during the football game

I second Eagle rider. I have two X-bolt Stainless Stalkers and both shoot great. No issues with either of them....knock on wood.

IF you get two tags signed over to you, are you still eligible to draw "leftover" dmp tags in November. I'm inclined to assume yes, but I'm not sure.

just shows how tough of an animal deer are...I found bullet fragments in deer I have processed in the past. I have never found a broadhead though...pretty impressive.

nice size diff pic of 1 year old and a not 1 year old
DanD replied to newbreed's topic in Trail Camera Pictures
the body size difference on that deer is impressive. Someone has been eating well. Look at the difference in his neck! -
I've always wanted a 25-06, but I opted for a 7mm-08 last year instead. Only reason I opted for the 7mm-08 over the 25-06 was the gun shop offered me a free Redfield Revolution scope. Don't ask me why he wouldn't do the same deal for the 25-06. I still have my eye on a 25-06, and plan on getting one in the near future.

What is your favorite smoothbore shotgun slug ammo for deer
DanD replied to LJC's topic in Rifle and Gun Hunting
Brenneke 2.75" KOs. Pretty accurate out to 75ish yards depending if I do my part...big if -
Seems awfully early for deer to be yarding. I wouldn't expect to see them yarding for another month + depending on weather of course.

I live down in Steuben county (8T), but I hunt in 8X,8G, and 8H. Very quiet year in 2015 in all 3 zones from my perspective. Here's hoping 2016 is a rebound year...Shoot straight

I'm right there with most of you. I have seen a massive drop off in hunters in the past 5-10 years in NY and PA. I used to run into 5+ people every day in both NY and PA. Now I'm lucky to see one person that isn't a family member. The opening day roar of gun fire is nothing more than a few shots here and there. I also rarely see hunters in their 20s/30s. Everyone I do run into are in their 50s/60s and talk about the way hunting used to be with seeing 10-20 deer every day.

Hi All, I am in the market for a new scope for my browning x-bolt 30-06. I had an older Nikon ProStaff on it that I wasn't the biggest fan of. I was looking at upgrading to Leupold VX-2 or VX-3 depending on how many of my saved Cabela's points I want to blow. Can anyone offer any feedback/ suggestions on the differences of these scopes? I would be looking at getting a 3-9x40 as most of my shots are within 200 yards. I am also open to suggestion on other brands/models. Thanks!

I bought a browning x-bolt stainless stalker in 7mm-08 in spring as an engagement gift to myself since she gets a fancy ring. I have only shot it a handful of times at targets, but it is more accurate than my browning 30-06. My gun tends to like the 140 grain nosler ballistic tips from Federal a little more than the 120 grain ballistic tips. Can't wait to take it deer hunting this fall.

Now that you say this Phade, the one deer I did shoot with a muzzleloader, I never found the sabot and there was not exit wound. I wondered what ever happened to it, but based on what you saying, it might have fragmented into small pieces...deer still tasted good though. If I get the opportunity this year to take a deer with the muzzleloader, I'll have to check what the Powerbelt does after impact. I always thought that Powerbelts were decent sabots, but all this talk on here has me second guessing myself quite a bit.
-
I also have a Hunter's Safety system in vest form. Very comfortable to wear and walk in for long periods of time. It is also reversible from camo to blaze orange. Haven't tried the deer drag out yet, but I hear it gets the job done with minimal messing around.

I have never heard of the No Excuses sabots. For the price you mention, I feel obligated to try them after this year. I get 20 Powerbelts for the same price you are getting 50 No Excuses.
