Shot at a decent 6 and just grazed him. Must have been buck fever, too bad. Looked for a long time, lots of brown hair and no blood. Hope he will be alright. -

beautiful morning in 4F. No deer yet,but had a coyote sneak right under my stand. Pretty neat. -
i have to go out,no question. Have been waiting too long. Hopefully it doesn't rain much

I think setting up a blind now is just going to freak the deer right out. You would be better of in the stand, imo. I am also looking to put a doe on the freezer as soon as possible,so if I get a good shot at one, that's it. I will be out on the a.m. and again in the afternoon, because I can't help myself.

I saw quite a few deer this a.m. around 8.30 on my way to work. Seemed like that is a little later than usual. I wonder if the wind last night made them a little uncomfortable and they did not get enough feeding time in. Might be the changing weather pattern too.

I hope I will have a picture to post. My wife wants me to get a few of the does that have been eating her flowers over the summer,so I will hunt close to home and not hesitate to tag the first decent doe that makes the mistake of coming to close to one of my stands. Have 4 tags this year,so I don't have to hold back. Friday night is not going to be a good nights sleep, I usually am a little too excited. At least I know I won't oversleep.. Good luck to all

I also think he is full grown. 5 years or older. The mass of the antlers base is pretty impressive. You don't see too many deer of that age group, but there are a few around anywhere..

Hey,that looks like an awesome rig. I have the same climber and don't enjoy carrying the dang thing either. That encounter with the buck was a great motivation to do something about the awkwardness of the climber on your back, that would have worked for me as well. I might have to try rigging something like that up myself. I like that the climber is upside down too, that way the cable doesn't catch on stuff. You have to stand up to shoot from the climber with the bow, right? That's what I don't like about mine.
-
aah,I see. Didn't mean to be a smart ass.
-
Boy,some people, huh? They could plant the same stuff at their place and watch the deer come in,but of course it is easier to go to growies place and check out the population there. Hope they won't bother you during the season.

The trick is to shoot your broadheads first, then fieldpoints..

I just found somebody's hang on stand on my friends property that only another friend of mine and I are allowed to hunt. Saw the screw in steps a while back and didn't get around to take them out. Now I got a hang on stand as well. We put a posted sign with my number on the tree, maybe I will get a call, but kinda don't think so. I suspect it belongs to the same guys that left two hang on stands up on my father in laws property all year. So I have three new hang ons. They must get tired of their stands disappearing soon I hope. Anyone feel like I should not take the stands? Trespassing fines are a joke,so this costs them a little more money.

Muzzy 3 fixed blade 100 gr. They are flying like my field points and do the job. Have not had any reason to try anything different. Shot placement is the main thing, broadheads are personal preference.

I was going to take part this year and they asked if an app would be easier than a paper log. I said yes,and that was the last I heard from the dec. Maybe there will be something in the mail soon...

I got the only daytime pics of a 10 point I was after around the 6th and 7th of November, that is for 4F. So I will try to be in the woods a lot for the first 10 days of November.
-
wow growalot, you are set up for whatever mother nature throws at you. That's awesome. Here in 4F 50% chance of rain,I will stay close to home and just sit for a few hours in the a.m. and then again in the afternoon. No need for all day sits yet. Saving that for early november...

To Let The Woods Rest Or To Not Let The Woods Rest
BowmanMike replied to DirtTime's topic in Bow Hunting
I would wait and scout mid day on Saturday with bow in hand. Do a scout/stillhunt thing. I might be doing just that. -
I haven't shot in a few days, very happy about this group at 40 yds. Nice and cool this a.m.,makes me wish it was opening day. This will be a long week. That is a great deer rockspeck, I have yet to see one like that in the woods. Have pictures of a nice 10,but it turns out it is much easier to get him on camera than on the wall.
-
gee Rockspeck, looks like you are ready. You got that real nice eight point last year, right? I hope I get half as lucky as you this year...
-
Always going for the lungs. I don't even like quartering away, too much room for error. Hope to have to self control to stick to that...

My two longest shots with a muzzleloader were about 90 yds. One at a walking buck, got him right in the heart. The second was on last day of muzzle loading season,I was kind of desperate for another deer and the one I snuck up on was bedded down just bed a drop off. I just saw the head and felt I could not get any closer. I layed down in the prone position and aimed for between the ear and eye. There was à good size hemlock behind the deer as a backstop. After the smoke cleared there were a few deer mulling around . When I made my way over the doe lay right where I saw her, with two holes right where I aimed. I don't like headshots generally, but this worked out. Muzzleloader for me,even during regular season.
-
I bought a wolf muzzleloader with an average scope from my hunting buddy for 100$ and I love the thing. I feel comfortable up to 150 yds with it,though never shot further than 90 at a deer with it,hit that one in the heart. Hardly kicks at all and I love having to pick your shot. Killed 11 deer with it and missed one,my fault of course. Had to shoot between two trees and grazed one. Only drawback is it does not clean itself,so I have to.

Only ones imaginationlimits the possibilities of a sand box... You just have to keep the cats out of it....

Buck weight (field dressed) - what's a "big one" in NY
BowmanMike replied to buckchaser's topic in Deer Hunting
A buddy of mine shot a 6 point a few years back that dressed out at 178. Last day of bow season in SZ. That was a long and tall deer. I heard of a couple going just over 200 here in 4F, and those were slammers. I am still waiting for that, but if I meet the 10 point that hangs around here during bowseason I will let you know how much he weighs.
