I have to agree but for me less of the first. I see the amount of bone on their head as an achievement to myself knowing I passed that deer and outsmarted him as he got older and wiser. I also will only take a mature doe, I refuse to shoot a small deer, and I don't buy the "they taste better" argument I have prepared 5.5 year old deer that taste just as good as a yearling.

SB 4739 - Establishes the yearling buck protection program

He simply said take guns out of the rut and shorten the season. So push off gun season for 1 more week then it will be towards the end of rut if it hasn't ended already. I love bow hunting and gun hunting. I bow hunt because I like the amount of skill, and how it challenges my ability to get close to deer. -

I understand, I hunt 8N middlesex and have saw some really good bucks taken out of that area. That also goes for the area in 8F I hunt another area that has had some real studs killed over the years but I'm talking 1 mature buck in 5 or 6 years off the same property and that is usually because we pass him for those 3 or 4 years and might get lucky on the 4th year and make it around us. My point being that in 8N, 8X, 8Y, 8W all areas I hunt all seem to have lower herd numbers than 8F which is primarily flat farm land. When I compare the WMU's in the AR bill to ones that aren't there is a substantial difference in age of bucks. I think the areas listed will most definitely benefit from the AR bill, maybe not the way people want it to happen but it will help. In essence the AR bill will make it a one buck rule like you stated because how many people get a chance at more than one 2.5 year old? I think people will actually need to hunt to kill a buck vs killing the first deer that walks out in front of them. -

But remember this bill isn't going to cover all of NY. This is in the low deer herd number areas where the majority of younger bucks are taken. -
Yeah I have never saw it until I moved down here. At my parents we haven't had any bore beetles yet either. Yeah, I'm only going to cut up the ones that are damaged and the dead standing, hopefully the dead standing I wont need to season very long. I have some larger trees that aren't showing any signs.

It looks like the neighbors property has it too. Back at my parents place in 8F I have never saw it either. I just stumbled across a post on another forum about it and it had me looking for it and found out I have a lot of it. I hope I can catch the trees that have it early so I can at least use them for firewood. Not sure if I can mill them for lumber/wood working with the blight but will be looking into it. I have a lot of newer growth (4"-10") across and it doesn't seem tot be affected. I feel like it is one of those evolution kind of things. That tree pictured is still pretty solid, looks like I need to get some surveying tape to mark the trees that need to be dropped and cut up.

Here is a photo of what it looks like on my property this is in 8w. Sent from my SM-G930V using Tapatalk

Anyone else have any cases on their property? I have a case of it on my older trees but the younger ones don't seem to be effected by it. It's too bad but now I have to catch them before they rot and become useless. At least I have some firewood for the upcoming seasons. The beech was one of the larger amounts of hardwood on the property. Thank goodness I have white and red oaks littering the property. I think I will use this opportunity to add my food plots to those areas most effected.

My buddy has one and does the same thing, they aren't a speed demons but hold their own and have a silky smooth draw.

That looks great. How many hours do you have vested?

Elephant In The Room

And I think that is what he is banking on, his allies. Basically that little brat kid with 2 big brothers that everyone wants to kick the crap out of but don't want to mess with the big brothers. Honestly I think just one bullet from the end of a .50 cal should do it but the problem then lies who takes over? -

I have been talking with a few colleagues this has come up a couple times and their response is always just take him out. The issue are the North Korea allies being Russia and China. Just wiping NK off the map i think is an option but this could spark a much bigger fire. I forgot to mention the Korean war never stopped, no treaty, nothing so in regard to NK we are still at war with them. Sent from my SM-G930V using Tapatalk -

That would be great but 3 deer feed my family not 2. -
I'm a school teacher so I will get a solid 10 weeks of work on it. I will take a few breaks to spend time with my family as I don't want to miss the little things. I really just want to get the main structure up with electric ran then I can get the insulation and drywall up this fall. That is the hope, we were originally just going to buy land then build a house on a small 2 acre plot but what it was going to cost to build new with the square footage we wanted we about had a stroke when we saw the prices. My parents own a good chuck of property but driving an hour and half back and forth on weekends was getting old and leaving the wife home with a 6 month old and a 2 year old this year will not work. Happy wife, happy life! I'm excited to get my stands put up and such, I didn't want to jump the gun and pull my stands from the other property I hunt and then have this deal fall through. I also need to pattern the deer a little more and add my food plots. Going to have a lot on my plate this spring and summer.

We put in the offer in Decmeber, as soon as they accepted we started the planning process we have all the expenses figure out for the big stuff like materials, roof trusses, and tools. All said and done we are looking at a bill of around $35,000. It's a large amount of money but it is money we will definitely get back out of the house. The houses we looked at with the square footage in the same area were pushing $300,000 with the amount of land we wanted (more than 20 acres). We paid less than half that so we will be doing good.

Yeahhhhh, small I don't think is in my wife's vocabulary. The plan is to add a 2 story addition off the back 16'x35' then tear off the old roof and finish the 2nd story over the rest of the house. So in essence taking a 1400 sq. ft. home with 2 bed 1 bath and making it a 2500 sq.ft. home with 4 bed 3 bath, 2 main living areas and a play room for the little ones that will eventually become a man cave/den. It will be a 1 year project and being a school teacher and doing most of the work myself I think my time at the lake will be short lived. Then I have to get my food plots in and cut some trails through the property.

Wouldn't that bottom one be legal having 4 on one side? -
I figure once it's officially taped by a certified scorer then there should be no arguing how big the buck is book or not. I know a lot of guys that score their own bucks and they somehow grow 3 or 4 inches from the official scorers measurements.

Just wanted to give everyone an update I know it has been a while. My wife and I found a house with 40 acres of nice woods. Unfortunately not a lot of oaks but some nice hard maple, some pussy willow, and nice thick pines. There is a ton of deer sign and lots of rabbits running around. Another plus are the grouse that the property currently houses. If everything goes as planned we are closing Monday and I can start some renovations. It wasn't my wife's dream house by a long shot but for the price we paid we can do some substantial renovations to make it everything we both wanted. Thanks again for the help everyone we are ready to move in and make some new memories.

Kioti was just running a killer deal actually still going on until the 1st or april. There is a dealer in Owego NY that had a DK5010 with free loader and was around $18,000 for a 50hp loader tractor. That is a steal of a deal and the Kioti has the same warranty of the other big name manufacturers have. EDIT: I lied the deal ended yesterday. Sorry about that. Either way there will be more deals coming soon. Here is the contact info. Joe Signs Power Equipment 3951 Waverly Rd Owego, NY, 13827-2841

For the life of me I can't find a single one. I look close far even take my dog that usually has no problem finding them and she can't find any either. I have been putting in quite a bit of time walking around and haven't got anything to show for it.

If it wasn't legal I wouldn't shoot it. Just seeing something like that maybe snapping a photo. I would say that I would be counting the points over and over in my head wondering if I missed one. -
If you're hunting from a ground blind you would want something with a shorter axle to axle. Axle to axle refers to the distance between the cam centers. There are advantages to shorter axle to axle like fitting better in confined spaces but that comes at a price of shot forgiveness. There are 2 things that really impact how "forgiving" a bow is. One is the axle to axle the other is the brace height. If a bow is more forgiving it means if your form isn't perfect or at the last millisecond you tweak your arm the bow will still shoot reasonable well (not far from the spot you aimed). I have 2 Bowtech Tributes one was bought in 2007 1 year old that I retired to my wife and the other was bought in 2012. I have yet to find a bow that shoots as nice. It is plenty accurate out to 60 yards and having 50-60 limbs I can back it all the way down for my wife and I shoot it maxed out at 62lbs. I'm not sure if a bow will shoot faster maxed out but they say they are more accurate maxed out almost like making the the bow 1 piece.
-
Just tighten the screw that holds the limb to the bow. 1 turn per a side do the top then the bottom in equal amounts until you get the desired poundage.
