  1. Never rely on a safety, and blaze orange is not bullet proof. Neither one is a guarantee against getting shot. Many orange clad hunters have been killed. Never assume something not wearing orange is a target either. Unless you know for sure what you're shooting at, you are in the wrong if you shoot someone. Bow hunters have every right to be in the woods during small game season and it is up to the shooter to be careful with their shots. Don't expect bow hunters to have any orange. Know your target and what's beyond it.
  2. This is not the case when the rifle has a properly designed stock with a good pad like a Pachymar Decelerator. Felt recoil is what matters and it can be effectively managed with the right stock design. Melvin Forbes makes Ultra Light rifles and he has designed the stock used by Kimber on their rifles. The 7mm-08 Montana I shoot has very little felt recoil. The fit of the stock is more important than the weight of the rifle IMHO.
  3. The Kimber Hunter is a great rifle for the money. Maybe the best one for the money. It may feel funny, but it has the same mini action, air gauged barrel, match chamber and match trigger as the Kimber Montana. Stainless steel metal (all of it) is a plus as well. The accuracy and reliability of the Kimber Hunter is excellent. The honeycomb interior in the stock provides excellent rigidity and strength. It's also lighter than most rifles in it's class, but still retains 22" of barrel, which is another plus. The one thing I like about it over the Montana model is the detachable magazine. That is another plus. It's inexpensive for what you get, but it is very far from "cheap" in quality and value. If I wanted another 7mm-08 and only had $900 in the budget for one, it would most certainly be the Kimber Hunter.
  4. Hunting "accidents" (shootings) happen for many different reasons. The best way to avoid them is by constantly being aware they could happen and always asking "What if?" Some shootings are truly freak accidents, while others are totally preventable. Some are caused by carelessness and some by mechanical failure of the equipment. Some happen to fully blaze orange clad hunters too. Each incident has to be investigated to find out exactly what caused the shooting. There is no difference between hunting "accidents" and car "accidents" either. Except with cars they are actually collisions, because someone wasn't in control of the car in every case. You can't call hunting "accidents" collisions, but in each case someone was not in control of their firearm. Maybe it would be better to call them all "hunting shootings" to better emphasize the problem. The only thing that prevents hunting shootings is the grey matter between the shooters ears. If it's always focused on safety, the large majority of these shootings will not happen. Focus, on yourself, and those you hunt with too.
  5. A lot of the people I hunt with get a little miffed when I check to see if they are being safe at all times. No loaded chambers when going in, or coming out either. Some think I shouldn't, but I'm not going to stop. I think we should all be checking on everyone we hunt with. If they don't like it, don't hunt with them.
  6. Correct, but they don't always do something afterwards. You'll know if they intend to, because they will also start to move toward you. If you continue to pose a threat at that point, bad things happen fast. DEC said they do den work in March and will call me back about coming out to see it.
  7. No worries Larry. I'm not gonna shoot it.
  8. First I saw it's nose. Then it did a real big yawn. That spooked me for a second. Then it was popping it's jaws. Had my rifle in my hand pointing at the hole. Didn't know how big it was at that moment. Turned out to be about 150 pounds maybe. Gonna call the DEC guy my friend knows who tags bears. Hope they come to tag it and I get some cool pics from that.
  9. I just wish I could've gotten a picture of the bear. It's on my land and I think it's staying for the winter. I hope I didn't scare it away.
  10. Obama has reigned over the most racist administration in the history of America. He has divided everyone on the basis of ethnicity and income. Calling Trump's picks racist is a desperate attempt to destroy his ability to make America great again, which, if successful, would be a death blow to the dumbass Democrat party.
  11. Many upstate NY voters don't vote, because they feel it's a waste of time. If upstate seceded from downstate, I bet that would change big time. I think that's when you would see upstate go at least 80% GOP.
  12. Hunting on Thanksgiving, I see fresh dirt on snow by a boulder. Get closer and see an opening under it. Peer in and see a bear less than 6 feet away. I must have woke it up. It let me look in for a minute or two. I waited close by for it to come out. Decided it was a youngster and didn't shoot. It went back in before I could get a picture of it though. Flip phone sucks for pics. I couldn't get a picture of it in that dark hole either.
  13. This guy admits the 2nd Amendment is a RIGHT, yet sides with the people and party that is taking them away. Good thing he only pushes his bravado on the internet where he can't get hurt.
  14. Did you guys think I literally meant promoting a civil war? For crying out loud. Grow up. It's a metaphor for a call to action. Are you guys illiterate or just grasping at straws to argue non-sense?
  15. I find it revealing people admit they will support lies, that they know are lies, to stifle a President. America suffers when you do that. Everything Obama and Hillary have been accused of, that has been proven, has been ignored by their supporters, yet they will support lies about Trump. I will not support anything Trump does that is "deplorable" if it's proven true. Why? Because I want what's best for this country, not what's best for my comrades. BTW, I wasn't even aware of the story about Podesta until just now. I don't follow anything about Hillary anymore because she is now inconsequential.
  16. She has the largest entitlement attitude of anyone in the entitlement class.
  17. In order to discredit Trump, the reports would have to be factual and true. The reports that are coming out do not discredit Trump because they are not factual or true. (See my prior post on your OP) However, there are many people in America, all leftists, that choose to believe they are true, no matter what facts are presented, and choose to spread the propaganda for evil purposes. If they keep this up, things will end up very badly for the country. I for one will work to see that it ends very badly for leftists who lie.
  18. The trouble with the article is that it's all speculation based on fear and loathing of Trump. It may turn out none of this comes to pass. Why does F&S feel the need to attack Trump when he has not even become President yet? To stir up opposition, that's why. Any respectable magazine waits for a real threat to occur, prior to calling it's readers to take up arms and start a war. It's like Cosmo calling for the castration of all American males, because they might rape someone.
  19. First off, these effects took place prior to Trumps election, even prior to his candidacy. Second, very few attacks against whites are classified as "hate crimes". Thirdly, when you look into all of the factors involved from an educated statistician's point of view, the report cited is full of errors and is being used for political purposes. It's becoming more obvious the FBI is no longer credible when it comes to crime information, or prosecuting high level political officials. "Fresh off the election of Donald Trump, the nation was greeted by news of the stunning rise in "hate crimes," as detailed in the FBI's latest iteration of its Hate Crimes Statistics report. At first blush, it offers frightening prospects for the safety of various minority groups across America. At second blush, not so much. New York Magazine writer Eric Levitz breathlessly begins his article, "Hate Crimes Against Muslims Increased by 67 Percent Last Year," with the angst-ridden declaration that these crimes had reached "their highest levels since the immediate aftermath of the September 11 attacks, according to FBI data released on Monday." From the fainting couch, he continued, "In 2015, there were 257 reported crimes rooted in anti-Muslim bias, up from 154 incidents the previous year. Notably, this uptick coincided with a GOP presidential primary in which a candidate who decried the Justice Department's concern with violent, anti-Muslim rhetoric finished second to one who proposed banning all Muslims from the country." As usual, the devil is in the details, so let's point out a few that drastically change the narrative. For example, the FBI analyzes incidents reported in 2015, but it wasn't until late in the year that Trump's candidacy really took off, so one would be hard pressed to explain why the increase could be attributable to Trump. Other factors are far more plausible, including the series of deadly Islamic terror attacks (Paris and San Bernardino among the targets), or the contention fomented by Barack Obama's attempt (with the help of the Rainbow Mafia) to force Americans to allow grown men to share bathrooms with women and little girls, or violent protests led by Black Lives Matter thugs. Is it possible that maybe, like Newton's Third Law of Motion, these actions triggered opposite reactions? Another critical point to understand is that the number of these incidents is incredibly small, and the threshold by which an action qualifies as a "hate crime" is ludicrously low. Of all hate crimes reported in 2015, two-thirds did not involve any form of physical violence. And of those that did, nearly 70% involved only simple assault, which the FBI defines as an incident where no weapon is used and no serious injury occurred. This category of crime includes intimidation (including verbal threats or name-calling), which accounted for 41% of all "assaults." And considering how many privileged, weak-spined snowflakes roam America — grown adults reduced to sobbing when their "safe space" has been violated by the presence of "offensive" Halloween costumes — this number should be taken with a truckload of salt. Simple assaults, including slapping, shoving, or spitting on, accounted for 39% of "hate crimes." In other words, only a small fraction of hate crimes — the kind that spring to mind when we hear the phrase, like aggravated assault (18.7%), rape and murder (well under 1% each) — actually include significant physical violence. Keep all this in mind as you read back over that headline of a 67% increase in hate crimes against Muslims. The total number of reported "hate crimes" against Muslims in 2015 was 257, and using the aforementioned percentages as a guide, that means that 51 Muslims were seriously assaulted in 2015, out of a total American Muslim population of roughly 3.3 million. So one out of every 64,706 Muslims suffered physical violence as a result of a hate crime in 2015, and one out of every 1,079,823 blacks. In fact, there were almost as many black-on-black murders in the city of Chicago in 2015 as there were total "hate crimes" against blacks in the entire United States the same year. Again, assuming these crimes were specifically motivated by hateful bigotry. It should go without saying that unprovoked attacks against ANY individual, regardless of race, sex, religion, or any other factor, are completely unacceptable. At the same time, it is dishonest to portray America as a place where blacks, Hispanics, Muslims, homosexuals, transgenders, and women are living in constant fear of attack. That's the narrative Democrats like Harry Reid despicably advance, though. Another thing to consider is that these numbers are based on crimes reported to law enforcement authorities. Yet when there are numerous examples of hate crime hoaxes being perpetrated — like the Muslim woman claiming she was beaten by white male Trump supporters as they screamed racial slurs, who now admits she made it all up — even the reported numbers become suspect. Oh, and by the way, Jews are more likely to be the victims of hate crimes than Muslims. But that doesn't fit the narrative. Not when even criticizing Islam is a "hate crime" to some people. The bottom line is that each and every violent criminal deserves to be prosecuted and jailed, and no decent, honest American should ever be subjected to this kind of abuse. But categorizing name-calling and being offended as "hate crimes," or lying about these kinds of attacks, makes it harder for true victims to be believed and protected, and it instills in some of us an unjustified fear of fellow Americans, whom some erroneously believe to hate them. This serves no one except those who profit from social, racial and political discord." Mark Alexander
  20. To paraphrase a quote from an idiot on this forum, "Trump will continue to lead a life you can only dream of." If he has zero sense, he sure did well for himself in life. This forum idiot's common sense level must be somewhere in the negative one million area.
  21. Gentlemen, please ignore this leftist loser. You need to realize debating his ignorant posts threatens to lower your own I.Q.
  22. NY's entire pistol permit system is actually a pistol registration system. If Hillary won, you'd soon be getting a letter telling you to turn them all in. That's why they want all AR type rifles registered too. You can deny it if it helps you sleep at night, but the state knows who has pistols and can decide to ban them at any time. I wouldn't comply with this system if I owned any firearms they want registered, but I don't own anything they need to know about. I have no problem with getting a permit to carry, but don't think they need to know how many pistols I own just to give me a permit. They certainly don't need to know about any long gun anyone owns. It's a right, not a privilege granted by a permit.
  23. I don't expect this America hating Leftist to go away. I expect he will look for a position where he can keep attacking capitalism, freedom, liberty and firearms ownership by civilians. He will also continue to support Islam while trashing Christianity. He's a very hateful man and he has no intention of fading away. He still has high hopes for destroying America. He will keep making enemies until one of them decides to shut him up, one way or another.
  24. IMHO, our Vets were not properly thanked yesterday. I saw idiot college kids protesting Trump, but nothing at these colleges about vets. I saw news articles talking about Trump, with hardly any reporting about vets. I saw businesses ignoring Veteran's Day and even saw very little on this forum about it. Really makes me wonder if our vets feel as if all they did was wasted or forgotten. Sad.
