I just found out that the DEC tranquilized it , and re-located it up in the Adirondacks. This is like the 3rd moose that I recall that wandered into Dutchess county.

It was really strange looking . Dull looking plumage , tiny body , blueish gray head but had about a 6" beard.

National Wild Turkey Federation has entries for all species of wild turkeys , but not sure about New York state entries exclusively.

I remember a few years ago when a bearded hen came into gun range while I was spring turkey hunting. She mingled around my turkey decoys for approximately 10 minutes or so. During this time , I couldn't help but think that I could shoot this hen as the regulations state "bearded turkey". I let her pass as I assumed she had a nest nearby and I wouldn't have felt good about it regardless. I wish the DEC would re-write the regulations , as it is very easy to distinguish a jake,gobbler and a bearded hen in the spring.

Obviously there is nothing wrong shooting a jake , but I prefer to let them grow ( hopefully ) into a wise old gobbler.

Lucky you.......I've yet to see one in the wild. Seen some sign , but that's about it.

Thanks, I stand corrected. I believe Sanchez has 4 playoff wins . That's a lot better than my teams quarterback who has 1 career playoff win. To make matters worse , they just gave the most mediocre quarterback a meg a million dollar deal . Need I say more ? -
