Local manhunt - What do you defend your home with?
WNYBuckHunter replied to Jdubs's topic in General Chit Chat
I have a couple of tactical style shotguns in easy to access places. Im not posting where in the house they are, but they are there, cocked locked and ready to rock. -
For $4 more.... https://www.ebay.com/itm/New-2018-Browning-Command-Ops-Pro-HD-14-MP-Digital-Game-Trail-Camera-BTC-4P/183396045529?epid=27017629656&hash=item2ab34192d9:g:LKkAAOSwGXlbe6Lb Good luck with the Stealth. The one I have is junk. We use it at the farm for monitoring who is driving in and out, and its still not great for that. It was given to me, so I could care less if its stolen or vandalized. Ive had 2 other Stealth cameras and they have been not worth it either. Just my experience.

And flushed out the blinker fluid pump

What brand of air were you using?
-
Oh, gotcha, yeah I do the same thing. I thought they meant they had to move it around on just the rear wheels. The dealership I bought my ATV from has lifts and winches mounted on the ceiling for that sort of thing.
-
Wait, why does it have to be pushed with the front wheels up? I push mine around in neutral all the time without doing anything special.
-
My deepest condolences.

Kinda like this guy, hes being an idiot, but he gets style points for being an idiot in a Lambo...
-
But you can go shoot the same model bow at a dealer, then buy on AT.

Keeping record of weather/ lunar stats

https://deerlab.com/ Deer Lab is really nice software, great user interface, but it comes with a subscription fee. Theres another one called WISE, which is free, but I havent tried it out yet. -
Im actually thinking of shooting a Triax to see how I like it. Ive heard a ton of good stuff about them. Im not a fanboy of any brand really. If/when I replace my Maxxis or buy a second bow, Ill look at Hoyt first, but no guarantee thats what Ill go with. The Charger was a nice bow, Ive shot them, but they werent really bottom dollar bows, just bottom dollar for Hoyt lol. I am also not disagreeing about the person vs a bow thing. Im just saying that in most cases, a high end bow is going to be less of a headache than a low end bow, especially for someone that shoots alot.
-
Possibly. Ill guarantee you that my 8 year old Maxxis is a better, smoother, more consistent bow than a Charger. For example, I started out with an older, but high end PSE. I shot that bow very well. Nice and consistent, it was smooth, but didnt have a great letoff. I loved that bow right up until I accidentally dropped it out of a tree and cracked a limb. I looked around a bit, but couldnt find a new pair of limbs, so I bought a brand new middle of the road PSE. That freaking bow was a nightmare to tune and I had all kinds of consistency issues with it. I took it and traded it for another middle of the road PSE thinking I just had a bad one. Nope, same deal. After a few years of dinking around with that, I shot a bunch of higher end bows at a friend's prompting. I liked how the Hoyt Maxxis shot, and bought one. Immediately my consistency issues went away, and I just dont have to tune the darn thing very often. I will never ever ever go back to shooting low end bows again. Ever.
-
No, I’m saying that they are two different comparisons. Low end vs high end and old high end vs new high end.
-
See my comment to dbHunter...
-
Not worlds apart really. Maybe in speed and a couple of other relatively minor differences. Or are you saying that guys couldnt consistently hit bullseyes 20 or 30 years ago with the top model bows back then?
-
You just compared an older high end bow with a newer high end bow lol.
-
They actually havent come that far in that time. Speeds are pretty much maxed out, and have been for a while. There will have to be some type of engineering and design leap at this point to get more speed out of them. The last 5-6 years have been companies playing around with gimmicks and working on weight and vibration tweaks. My 2010 Hoyt isnt a speed bow, but it pushes a hunting arrow over the 300 fps mark, is very quiet and dead in my hand. I shot a Hoyt Carbon RX1 Ultra, which is similar to my bow, in axle to axle and brace height, and it was not much different from mine. a bit lighter, as its a carbon fiber riser vs aluminum, but overall it felt very similar to shooting my bow.
-
Be careful what reviews you are looking at. The one you posted is 3 years old. The review is also titled "Best compound bows for the money", not best bows.
-
One should actually shoot as many different bows as they can, and choose based on what feels and shoots better. Not just what brand name is stamped on it. Elites are great bows, but not for everyone. I shot a couple of them when I was shopping, the Hoyt was a better fit for me.

Heres an example. $575 for a Mathews Halon X ($1300 retail) https://www.archerytalk.com/vb/showthread.php?t=5500081

Shoot some high end bows and you will see. I started out thinking people were nuts for shooting high end bows, and Id buy lower or middle of the road ones. Every year I had consistency issues, constantly re-tuning them, etc etc etc. Then I shot a few high end bows, and everything about them was better. Draw cycle, vibration (or lack thereof), build quality and just the way they handle. I figured out what worked best for me, and bought a 1 year old Hoyt Maxxis 35 on the ArcheryTalk classifieds from a guy that swapped out his bows every year. I got it for half of what a new one costs, and it even had custom strings/cables and a couple of other goodies on it. I have owned it since 2011, and have had it tuned twice, and have had no issues that I can think of. My shooting has been far more consistent since I started shooting it as well. You dont have to drop a grand on a high end bow unless you just have to have the very newest model out there. The next time Im ready to buy, I will go shoot a bunch of bows, figure out what I want, and then stalk the AT classifieds until I find the right deal on one.

I have spots like that. Theres software available that helps out a bit, makes your pics into kind of a video presentation. I save all of my trailcam pics, so I dont bother with that. I go through them and delete what I dont want to keep. Its a good problem to have. Now my Spypoint cell cam has options to only send pics of bucks, send pics of any deer, or send pics of turkeys. Ive tried playing with the filters a bit, and it works ok.

I’ve been busy doing plots, hanging stands, glassing fields and running cams. Been busy around the house getting things knocked off of my honey do list too, so I can disappear for a few months lol.
-
Sounds like you did it right. Can’t wait to see the groceries growing in them.

Putting in new food plots
WNYBuckHunter replied to WNYBuckHunter's topic in Land Management, Food Plots and QDM
We generally have really good soil here. I have never had to lime at all, and a 150 to 200lb per acre (depending on what I get) fert, and the correct seeding and that’s what we get. That’s why I seed Heavy to stunt the bulbs. I want To keep them below softball size. The greens get 18 plus inches deep in the containment cages. Scroll up a bit and you’ll see my daughter holding one up you can see how tall the greens are That reminds me, I need To get my cages up in the new plots.
