  1. Damn leaf peepers!! They must have more prayer power than I do. Its our last weekend of northern zone bowhunting and its going to be in the 80's. Definately not bowhunting weather. I need to have a chat this Sunday with God.
  2. Be sure to get the hide off it as soon as possible to get the heat out of your deer. Leaving the hide on for too long can also cause problems with the meat.
  3. Good idea!! Cleaning calf stalls in their bare feet would be a real eye opener
  4. I have one somewhere. Let me look around. Shoot me a PM if you are interested.
  5. Oh! By the way, I wax my string everytime it starts to look a little fuzzy.
  6. I bet if you type waxing a bow string in Youtube there will be something there for you to watch. There is a ton of great info there. That is where I learned to fletch my own arrows.
  7. Before I make my next thread I was curious how many have the day off this Monday? If yes, are you going hunting?
  8. Unreal! This should be shown in our hunter safety classes.
  9. Hornady LeveRevoltion. These bullets are awesome!! Been using them for years with no feeding problems.
  10. Seriously though, I use my smoker to make all of my jerky. I use the High Mountain Seasonings .
  11. I tried smoking venison but it was hard to keep it lit.
  12. Read this again!! I holds the blades CLOSED!! They do not lock open!! Patented snap-locking blade system holds the blades closed during flight, even out of today's fastest bows - no rubber bands needed In fact if anything, they lock shut after they pass through. When i picked up my arrow the blades were closed back up. I assumed that it failed to open till I saw the wound and read this from the NAP web site. Spitfires will open, NO MATTER WHAT The design of the Spitfire GUARANTEES that they will open, at any shot angle. Even closed the Spitfire blade is already partially open, so it has to continue to open when the target touches the blades. They WILL slam shut after passing thru a target and hitting the dirt. There will be a little dent in the aluminum ferrule where the back of the blade rests when the head is in the full open position. In the 12 years that this head has been on the market, we have not had a SINGLE failure of the Spitfire not opening.
  13. I have had this grinder for 5 years now and I am very happy with it. I have never done any sausage but it will grind meat as fast as you can put it in. I got mine at Christmas time when it was on sale for $70. These go on sale every now and then if you keep your eyes open.
  14. I cannot load this page on IE at home. Fortunately the wife had installed Firefox earlier in the year or I would only be here at work.
  15. I will never forget this. My first trip out bowhunting ever. It was Oct. 1st, 65 degrees at first light and climbing. I carried my climbers stand and all my gear for about 3/4 of a mile. I was hot, I was sweating profusely, and swatting mosquitoes like crazy. I climbed the tree got all settled in and it hit me...... no release. ARGGGG! So I climb back down during prime first light. Walk all the way back to the truck to find my release on the seat. Walk all the way back and I re-climb the tree. I am now even hotter and sweattier. The mosquitoes had a field day with me. It was not pretty. I will NEVER leave without a back-up release in my pack again.

I have been using this 4" Buck Woodsman for quite a few years. I like it and it holds a wicked edge.
  17. I have always had my best luck at first light. I use a cottontail distress call and a .243.
  18. Years ago I got invited to hunt pheasants and quail down near Cooperstown on some club. As I stood there waiting to go out I watched them throw the birds from a 4-wheeler. We then had coffee and split up into different areas. They told me that the birds probably wouldn't flush, even with a dog. Ok fine. So I shot two birds off the ground. There birds tasted just the same. It wasn't as much fun and I never went back. Every situation is different, it's your call. We will never have the wing shooting that they do in the midwest so take what you can get.
