So l leave work yesterday and I see that they are putting up a new billboard. "Slow Down For Motorcycles" it says. Paid for by some state safe driving committee. Now I don't have a problem with the message but more with the timing. 99% of motorcycles are now put away for the winter. Seems to me like that is a waste of good taxpayer money that could have been better used in the spring. Have you seen any state government waste lately.

Until we went to rifles, all I ever used was Remington 1100 16 ga. That gun loved the Brenneke slugs. I miss using that old gun.

Its actually called Bradleys and I havn't been in there in 15 years. I will be going by there on my way to camp Friday and I will give them a look. Thanks. Does anyone know if DeJulios in Syracuse sells wool hunting pants?
-
Yes I know I can get them on-line but you cannot try them on. Looking to buy gray (not green) somewhere in central NY.

Congratulations!!

My old gray woolrich hunting just don't fit around my waist like they used to. With southern tier gun season just around the corner I went to Herb Phillipsons to see what they had. All that they had were the green wool pants and I would prefer the gray. Is there store in Syracuse area that has a decent supply or gray wool hunting pants? They don't necessarily have to be the woolrich brand, just the gray pattern.

ITS MORE THAN JUST HUNTING & FISHING!! This is what I do with my kids every year. I started with my daughter when she was 4. You have to keep them involved all year long. *My year starts with ice fishing. Put on small minnows and let them chase tip-ups for perch. *Take them shed hunting. *Summer its bluegills or any fish that we can catch plenty of. *Get them helping you in the food plots. *Take them spring turkey hunting. Buy them a call and let them use it. *Take them porcupine hunting. *Take them to any and every outdoor sport show that you go to. *Take them to the DEC informational meetings, sit in the back and explain what is going on. *Plant apple trees for the deer. *Bring them to hang tree stands. *Bring them when you check trail cams. THIS ONE GETS THEM REALLY FIRED UP!! Ask them where they would put a camera. *Put them in a ground blind where you know fall turkeys will pass by and blast one. *If you have woods out back, let them follow a blood trail. *Let them watch you gut a deer. *Let them help you skin a deer (do it while its still warm) *let them help you process a deer. My kids do all of the grinding. Shed hunting.... In the ground blind together hunting fall turkeys. Note the head phones to keep them amused. Took them to meet world record holder Randy Oikter Ice fishing last winter. Helping daddy blood trail, gut, hang, skin, and process this deer. A word of warning. You have to go into this 100%. Be prepared, you are going to lose some of your outdoor time to be with them. But the rewards will be awesome when you gain new hunting buddies.

What Hunting Question frosts yer nads ?
RangerClay replied to fasteddie's topic in General Chit Chat
I have two. From a tresspasser, " So and so said I could hunt here?" From any hunter after you ask how they did during deer season. "I only shot a spike" Ooooh how I hate that!!!! Do not degrade the wonderful beast you killed. -
Be sure to look up before you climb. I got set up last year and it could happen to you. http://huntingny.com/forums/topic/1909-i-got-set-up/

Missed the mount pic also. Maybe because it was April and I was finally happy to be outside and not in front of a computer. Great mount and a great trophy!!!

Wow, this brings back memories. 36 years ago when I was about 10, I used to go to an old bottle dump and pick bottles for him. Anything with writing on it will have more value than those that don't. Red bottles are very rare because gold was used to make the color. My uncle had a book he used to find the value.

I used to have ECO's come to my youth fishing camp to talk to the kids. One ECO told me that he hates to answer questions about whether this or that is legal. He told me that no two ECO's will enforce the law the same way. So I guess it will be a coin toss about what the ECO might say. I doubt an ECO is going to ask to see your bear gut pile and where you shot it. In the end it comes down to your own ethics and what you are willing to do. If I was helping a farmer and a bee keeper who are suffering from bear damage this question would be a no-brainer.

I supply my brother with turkey and pheasant feathers. He makes two flies called turkey tails & pheasant tails. They are a kick a$$ fly for steelhead and slmon in the fall.

Deer and coon will not feed side by side and I have pictures to prove it. That could be your problem but its probably a change in food source.

Ding ding ding!!! You can use anything you want on a fenced in preserve.

Thank you, you are correct. Season does start Sept. 27 but if you don't have a leftover tag, you're season starts Oct. 1st. Now our ML season starts Oct. 15th. That means you have 14 days to get it done with normal bowhunting conditions whether you have private land or not. I have private land and it doesn't matter. Once the gun hunters start blasting their Muzzleloaders this Saturday, normal deer movement comes to a stop and the deer start going nocturnal. I mentioned on another thread here that I wanted to get the rifle season season shortened up here and I got flamed big time. In a nut shell we get screwed up here. The southern zone bowhunters will get an extra 2 weeks next year and we will only have 2 weeks of bowhunting only.

Sweeeeeeeet!

I went out this morning for a bow hunt. Nothing moving but chipmunks. Too damn hot for bowhunting.
-
It feels kinda funny saying the last weekend of bow season. But that's what it is for us northern zone folk. We get 2 weekends and that's it. The guns will start firing next weekend and deer movement will come to a halt. You guys in in the southern zone have been fighting for an extra couple weeks and it looks like you will get it next year. But that extra two weeks is all we get.

Some food for thought. For 2 years now I have been extremely happy with my Nockturnal nocks. I have one that I ran through a deer last year and a turkey this year. Both times it worked perfectly. After I shot the turkey it was rather bloody so I rinsed it off, let it dry, and put it back on the arrow. I shot at another turkey the other day and missed. The nock did not light up and the arrow skipped up into the woods. Now I am down a CX maxima hunter with a $10 broadhead. I emailed the folks at Noctural nock to ask what I did wrong and they have yet to return my email. I will keep you updated. I have been singing the praises of nockturnal nocks but from now on I will shoot the nock on a practice arrow before I go back out.
