  1. I think your double bird pic in the original post threw him off. I had to take a second look myself. Congrats to all of you who braved the rains yesterday.
  2. I shoot Pyrodex RS loose powder. For those of you who also shoot Pyrodex, what do you use to clean your guns? I used to use Knight EZ Clean and that stuff was great. Unfortunately they don't make it anymore so now I'm looking for something new.
  3. Go to Gander Mountain and get yourself one of these. They are simply AWESOME for finding public land. http://www.sportsmansconnection.com/atlases/alloutdoors/ny/w/
  4. I cannot get any time off this week. I will charging hard on Saturday morning. Good luck everyone!
  5. I'm a firm beliver in Mother Nature's check & balances. 20-25 years ago the turkey populations were growing exponentially but I rarely saw coyotes. Now I see coyotes everywhere and hear them howling at night where I never had before. Now all of the turkeys are gone. Last year we never heard a single bird gobble on opening day and just 10 years ago all four of us would bag a bird on opening day. Another factor you need to concider is your raccoon & skunk populations. Hardly anyone is trapping anymore. These critters are robbing the nests blind!!!!
  6. I see you are from Sandy Creek and being just 5 miles up the road from you I know there are no bow shops in our area. I drive all the way to Ferari's in Carthage because the local Mathews dealer is a con artist. The Watertown Gander Mountain archery department sucks but I have heard ok reviews from the Cicero store.
  7. Not true. Its a urban myth. Now on the other hand my wife swears by bounce fabric softener sheets. She will tuck one in the back of her hat. Now here is a good one that works for me. Take a stick. Put your hat on the stick and hold it up in the air and 90% of the blackflies will fly up to it. Blackflies always gravitate to the highest spot. Not sure why. But you can always spot me in the turkey woods because when I walk through I have my gun over my shoulder and my hat on the end of the barrel. I will use a thermacell when I sit still.
  8. “"It was amazing to eat that meat and really feel the spirit of the animal," Manza said. "It gave me a different relationship to eating animals and animal products." True...they were idiots but I bet they will never make another anti-hunting movie. Sounds like some of them may try this legally next time.
  9. They will use anything to avert our attention away from Osama stripping down our constitution.
  10. http://www.mossberg.com/images/Mossberg_Guns/930/New/41026.gif Looks like something from a futuristic movie! I wonder how it shoots?
  11. Cornell did a study maaaany years ago on pregnant roadkill does. They found does that were fertilized as early as mid September and as late as early February.
  12. My .243 is a Browning Lightning BLR. It doesn't have a thumbhole but its a real tack driver with quality ammo.
  13. http://www.mississippidecoys.com/products.bigdaddy.html A disaster waiting to happen in my humble opinion. I can see some idiot hiding behind this umbrella to get closer to a bird and getting shot in the process. A big mistake selling these things.
  14. Go to Ebay and get a $10 parts cam. Put it out in the open and get a cam pointing at the decoy.
  15. Did anyone read the recent article in I believe Outdoor Life about shed theft. This stuff is BIG BUSINESS. Granted these deer may have had their horns a month ago but hit them off with a hammer after they are dead and you are rolling in dough.
  16. Shhhhhhh! Keep quiet about my secret!! I hunt the cedars from a homemade blind and they make great cover.
  17. You have a rope that connects the upper and lower platforms. USE IT!!! The first time I climbed with mine I hadn't used it yet. Got 15 or so feet in the air and the bottom dropped to the ground. Fortunately I had friends there to help me. As to your question, I only go up about 15 feet.
  18. Btw this is what I use for a repellant. http://www.coleman.com/product/colemanreg-gear-clothing-insect-treatment-twin-pack/752-2?contextCategory=64100 Stinks when you put it on. Let it dry overnight then its odorless.
  19. You know I have said that exact same phase for over 40 years. Now all of a sudden I am picking up ticks in places that I never dreamed of. I never used to think about ticks in Madison County but now I have to be careful everytime I go out. I picked up ticks on several occasions the first week of the past southern tier gun season.
  20. Swivel seats are the best! They really really reduce noticable body movement from the stand. I never leave without one. I have a nicer version of one of these. http://www.sportsmansguide.com/net/cb/big-game-swivel-seat-top.aspx?a=552678 I sit on a 6 gallon bucket and put my back to the tree. I build my own stands.
  21. My bet is a heron. I've tossed them 12" perch and they swallow them like jello shots!
  22. Congratulations!! Try handling a Ruger Vaquero. There is nothing like holding a piece of the old west!
  23. Best fertilized tree in town! LOL!
