  1. That's legit! I'm a bit envious of guys that can work with wood. I work with wood too, but only to make 16" pieces that will fit in the stove...
  2. Warms me up just looking at those pics Jdubs!
  3. You should do what you feel comfortable with. Your logic makes sense. I tend to agree with your thinking, except that I want a spare of each as well. That reminds me... I need a spare shotgun for turkeys.
  4. He's probably the best QB ever, wildly successful and married to a super model. I think he has plenty of choices. It's not like he's going to starve if he decides to retire. I dislike the Pats, but I realize that he's great and winners on his level make easy targets.
  5. I use a version of these as well. I wear them because they give me pretty good grip and dexterity. One caution is that you need a pair that doesn't fit too tight, or they will be cold. I wore them out plowing on the tractor today at -2 and my hands froze. I had to run in and get an pair of old fashioned chop mitts. Those did the trick. For day to day, I wear the Kinko gloves. The little grocery store I go to carries them for about $7.
  6. Hate the Pats, but Brady is the GOAT. The numbers don't lie.
  7. The Pats and the Chiefs vs the refs? Whole lot of flags and whistles.
  8. I'm going to move a couple stands. I'm also going to make a number of make-shift brush blinds to keep me mobile and give me lots of options for different winds. I'm going to hunt more on other properties instead of focusing on the farm so much.
  9. 3 degrees here and 15-20 mph wind. Hard to tell how much accumulation with the drifting, but I'm guessing between 14" and 18" already. We are getting the storm that they promised. The snow is fluffy and not heavy, so I will wait to plow. It's going to be rugged plowing with the no-cab tractor! Thinking about an early lunch and then cracking the bottle of Crown.
  10. It's always great to be part of the solution Bionic. Sorry to hear about your broken arm/hand. It really is ironic, but kind of a bummer. Hope you get all that you want to out of your trip.
  11. Have a good trip! It's an ADVENTURE. Let us know how it goes.
  12. Truly impressive. I think it takes an artist to see the eagle in that beech log. I love the shape and detail in the wings. Thanks for sharing Matt.
  13. Like 4SW said, if it is new to their diet they won't have what they need in their gut to break the corn down. The same thing can happen if you try to feed them bales of hay in the dead of winter. It takes very different microbes to break down grass or corn vs. woody browse. In places where it is legal to feed deer, it is important that they continue to feed them through the entire winter, not just during the coldest months.
  14. Congrats! That's pretty awesome. My buddy used to put a fish in the bottom of a 5 gallon bucket, then wire a Conibear over the mouth of the buck. He would sink the bucket in a river. When the otter dove straight down after the fish, Presto!
  15. As I mentioned above. It was stolen the first week of November, between VT bow season and rifle season.
  16. Live just over an hour away. My brother lives on the farm, but isn't in the woods that much. During that week my blind and stand were stolen, a bunch of trail cameras came up missing on the neighboring properties. It wasn't the neighbors anyhow. They are all scared of my temper. And the farm has a backhoe.
  17. Thanks for the replies folks. This was a first for me in 20+ years. They came half a mile through the woods and went through at least 3 sets of posters. I realize that there is no perfect solution. I was just curious what other people do, since I have never had to worry about it before. I'm leaning toward grade 70 chain and padlock, or replacing the stolen stand with a homemade ladder stand made of pressure treat.
  18. Is it a conspiracy? 189,000 miles so far. Time for a new set of windshield wipers and a headlight bulb.
  19. $2.59 where I am in the Champlain Valley of VT. It's about 20 cents cheaper if you go a little north or south of Burlington.
  20. Had my frame done. They had 3 days. They charged Toyota $11K for the frame replacement. It cost me half a tank of gas in the RAV 4 that they loaned me. Because they stood behind it, I will buy another Toyota. That's good business.
  21. Took them during the week between bow & gun season.
  22. What do you guys/gals use to lock up your stands? I have never had to do this because I am hunting family land. This year some low lifes from the next road over stole one of my stands, a set of climbing sticks and a hub blind. From what I hear they will be evicted for back taxes, but in case they are not I would like to lock up my stands and maybe my cams. Python cable locks? Chain? I am just curious about your experiences. My buddy just says to use all ladder stands, since they won't want to lug them out. What do you think?
  23. I don't disagree that there are many better every day carry pistols. I am curious what you find unreliable about the 1911? I'm more of a bolt-action guy, so I am interested in your experience with them.
