  1. Rain hasn't started here in 4U yet. My nephew's might make the entire afternoon hunt before it starts.
  2. I agree, there the way to go, but for some of us a $8000 quad is doable.. a $15,000 utv isn't.
  3. My 570 sportsman has dragged some impressive loads. Once I loose traction, it's all over. Another 75lbs might have gotten me another couple feet. So the 1000cc is $7800 more than the 450?
  4. He mentioned his one plot was rocky. I didn't notice one decent size rock in any of his plots. In my area, we've got rocks. Lots of softball to volleyball sized rocks. That really beat up equipment.
  5. Buddy of mine did 4, 1/2 acre food plots this yr with a 350 Honda that's probably 25 yrs old He bought a tow behind tiller to bust up the soil. He used my sprayer and spreader to prep and seed.
  6. The issue is traction. A 700cc quad isn't going to weigh much more than a 400-570 machine. You can have all the power at your finger tip, but if you don't have the weight to pull whatever you're dragging behind you, it's useless.
  7. I'll have to look, but I think the new extended season ends Jan 1. Just checked. Southern zone extended season ends Jan 1.
  8. I could, but the smoke pole will be utilized. Actually isn't it Jan 1?
  9. Lol, wish I could. I'll let my nephew's fill the freezers. I'll sit back and enjoy watching them. I'll have more time during rifle as long as it's not bitter cold. Can't take the cold like I used to.
  10. Well, that's a wrap for my archery season. Had great hunts. Both my nephew's took their first bow deer. I passed a bunch of does and little bucks, and miss a slammer. Miss judged the distance, and shot under.
  11. I believe all equipped, quiver, scope arrows it around 10 lbs. Definitely heavier than my PSE fang, but easier to cary around and definitely better in a ground blind. Both are front heavy, but the CP is a little worse. Accuracy, the CP is touching arrows at 45y. Fang prob a 4" group. I like the CP better. The cocking sled is great for sighting in, but I'm using the rope in the field. I can uncock it with the sled and and I sometimes do.
  12. Picked up the CP patriot couple weeks ago. It's advertised as 15.5" ATA uncocked. Tip to tip it's 17 1/8. Not sure what the specs are for the one posted.
  13. Most likely my last archery sit of the yr. Sitting on my foot plot. So much to do before Saturday. Have a buddy and his two sons coming down from Maine to hunt with my cousins property. I'm hopeful to get them on the farm a day or two.
  14. Remember, Ny is limb tip to limb tip uncocked. NOT axle to axle.
  15. I usually don't bring anything. Definitely nothing to drink. I'd have to pee all the damn time.
  16. Full moon is Friday morning around 9am. I'm in Columbia county also. Could read the paper last night it was so bright out at midnight.
  17. Full moon on Friday, just in time for SZ opener. I hate hunting a full moon.
  18. Averill park is in my neck of the woods. Lots of deer in that area.
  19. I'll be in the same stand as the past 20 yrs. Thick and on the edge of the swamp. Killed a handful there on opening morning and a few more opening evening's.
  20. I worked for a buddy of mine skinning and butchering for several years back in the early 2000's seen plenty of shotgun killed deer. Lots that were hit poorly. Believe me, they were not pretty. Just as much wasted meat if not more, then rifle caliber. Your theory a bad hit with a shotgun is going to waste much less meat just isn't true.
  21. And how can you confirm that? What experience do you have above and beyond the 2 you butchered that were poorly hit with a 243? I've seen dozens of 20, 16, and 12g do some damage that would make a . 300 win mag blush. And your only sentence that makes sense, if you're shot doesn't hit exactly where you wanted. Regardless of slug, caliber, your loosing meat, and both would be a equal loss.
  22. Lived in rifle zone all my life. Would never consider using a shotgun. Lots of fields in my spots. Taken deer out to 325yrds. Shotgun just wouldn't fit here. Can't ever remember seeing someone toting a shotgun in the 40+yrs I've been hunting.
