  1. Don't blame them at all. This state is doing nothing but hurting there business. Should have left this shit hole long ago.
  2. I've spooked the same spike 4 times this week in my food plot. All 4 while walking in, he ran off. Had to bust him big time yesterday leaving my stand. Called in a big 6 yesterday, but a doe caught his attention, and he vered off. Today, missed a huge 8 minutes after spooking the same spike off the plot. Shot just under him.
  3. Yes, most had two washers. Was it the shooting rail that used 3 plastic washers? I snugged everything down until the metal tube just started to collapse/bend. Didn't experience the washer splaying out the sides. The ladder section's do make noise while climbing, but most of my ladder stand do.
  4. I didn't have that issue. Hunted both of these stands with zero pops, creeks or any wobbling or looseness at all.
  5. Shot many with .223, 22-250 to '06. And a few with some oddball and newer stuff. Wasted more meat with the '06, .270 then any of the smaller caliber's without hitting the shoulders. Just the blood shot that finds it's way between the muscles of the shoulders is incredible on the larger caliber's. Hit a deer in the hinds and clip the bone, the entire hind, both sides, will be a huge bowl of jello encased in fur regardless of caliber
  6. And there's the problem. Taking shots you shouldn't. I'm no sniper, but I've killed a lot of deer offhand and hit where I intended. Most shots were under 100 yrd.
  7. Wolc, you have no friggin clue what your talking about.
  8. So you're saying a .44 wouldn't have ruined the hind quarter? Either caliber would result with a hind quarter ruined. To the OP....If I only hunted thick stuff and no fields, I'd I'd pick the .44. If I hunted both fields and brush, .243 without hesitation.
  9. It's difficult in some circumstances. I've bumped deer already in the fields going in for a afternoon hunt. Definitely not going to walk through the woods bedding areas to hunt a field edge. Also have multiple deer in the field feeding after shooting light. I try to get down without spooking them, but sometimes they are only 30 yrds off.
  10. Congrats on the doe. Hopefully you'll recover the buck. Good luck.
  11. I definitely missed the wink. I imagine house cats could have a effect on song birds, but I've seen a hen turkey mess a small dog up when he decided a poult snack sounded great. Dog was hurting. Think the same would happen with a cat, but they are defy more stealthy than a small dog.
  12. A bobcat isn't what I think of when someone says " outdoor cats" lol.
  13. Gotta really snug the bolts down. To the point of the metal tube just starting to crush. Mine are solid. My only complaint is the back rest bar. Even with the pad, it's far from comfortable on the back.
  14. Lol. Assuming you mean house cats, How many cats do you see in the woods while you're hunting?
  15. Zero trapping on the lands I hunt, and all of the surrounding properties. Lots of yotes, coon, fishers, hawks, few eagles. Tons of turkeys. Yes there was a few years in a row when we had horrible spring weather and most of the clutches of eggs didn't hatch. And if someone did, they didn't make it due to the cold and wet weather. Easy to blame the predators, but weather alone has more to do with it then predators.
  16. Called in a big 6pt which is my self imposed restriction. He was 200 yrds out and quartering away so I grabbed the grunt tube and gave him a loud grunt to get his attention. Stopped him in his tracks. One more softer grunt, and he was on a string. When he was 45 yrds out, a spike pushed a doe into the field, and he switched directions to run him off, and chase the doe out of the field.
  17. Until the alarm goes off on the next day you hunt. That's when it hurts.
  18. Welcome. What areas do you hunt?
  19. My rooster starts about the same time. He's loud as hell even though the coop is 40yds from out bedroom window, and there obviously closed this time of year.
  20. My nephew Kayden had a hunt he'll never forget. Had a monster (his words) come running in chasing two doe just a few yds from his ground blind. Buck circled around around 6pm( legal in our area was 6:12), but still rather dark. Could see the buck in the xbow scope, but miss judged the distance. Shot under him.
  21. I knew someone would have some insight on it's use. What do you think a fair price would be?
  22. This is the barn of what was a sheep farm. New owner wants stuff cleaned out. I know it's used for sheep, just don't exactly know what for. Looks like it clamps them so they can't get loose.. Hate to scrap it if it's something someone might want. Thanks in advance for your help.
