  1. They've been trying I believe to ban all lead ammo on stateland. Cant remember where I saw it.
  2. Welcome back. Theres a chance there's a bunch more changes for this coming year. One already passed that was giving us an extra week at the end of the year.
  3. I had does get in a boxing match in my lawn last week. The lead doe of the group of 8 that comes by is big and mean. Shes got a floppy ear and if any other deer gets within 10ft of her or her fawn shes going after them.
  4. Congrats hope it all works out. I know alot of guys who retired and drove bus for schools. The way they saw it they were already up early and didnt have anything to do after lunch. So they got a little extra play cash and insurance. My fil runs the american legion in my town. Makes an extra 18k a year.
  5. My uncle had a place here and then bought a double wide in a retirement type park somewhere in NC or SC. The park maintained the property from may-November for him. Not sure what the maintenance cost him but he played cash for the place so he didnt have to worry about that. He would leave after thanksgiving so he could get all his hunting in.
  6. If I had my choice we would be in Carolinas,Tennessee,Maryland southern pa or iowa(current company has a sister company there and only for the hunting lol). My wife has been leaning towards leaving also we wont make a move with our oldest 2 years from graduating hs. When shes done we will have one in 6th and 1st so it might happen then. I have a friend waiting until his oldest graduates then hes going to Tennessee, when my one friend comes back from Afghanistan hes going to tenesse or Texas. Brother just got a job offer for kentucky. Youngest sister and bf are looking at South Carolina where my cousins are. Everyone heading south that I know.
  7. Thanks rob now I'll have a nightmare tonight. Looks you guys had fun.
  8. Not going to lie. I would probably piss myself if I saw that thing walking towards me.
  9. Thanks and that's the one thing I read was start light and work up. The nice thing about the sage is I can by new limbs for 50 and up the weight or go down. I do have to find someone local to get pointers and to coach me a little bit. It will be fun to learn.
  10. Started doing the mods on the stand and sticks today. I did realize that I need different straps preferably with a waist belt. 2 sticks will have double steps and an aider.
  11. Nope once you start archery it's hard to walk away. If you do go from the ground I would look into a ghillie suit to help break up your outline. Also The Hunting Public have a ton of ground hunting videos and advice for it. Good luck and hopefully you knock down a deer with your bow and drop a giant tom in the spring.
  12. That's why I'm not going to say I'll get out this year with it to hunt. It would be nice but I want to make sure I'm 100% confident with it at whatever range I can. May take me a year or 2 to get to that point. I'm going to be realistic that 15yards is my range with that draw weight and with a 500plus grain arrow. I'm just happy to target shoot with it for now.
  13. I just let one of my friends know about this and hes pumped. He doesn't hunt much of gun season because he loves ml. He will take time off for late ml before he does any other time.
  14. Ide have to look them up. I know oxford rod and gun club has a 3 day trad shoot every year and that's in my town so it would be fun to go to that one.
  15. My group will be going. Hoping oxford, gilbertsville and a couple close by are open. We also might hit up she shed
  16. Yea we are going to test out 400 and 500 so to see what works best with different point weights
  17. Couldn't help myself I've wanted to shoot recurve for a little bit. Would be nice for hunting but just around the house to fling arrows would be nice. So I just purchased a samick sage 40#. It would be nice to be good enough to take it out this coming year but it's going to be a big learning curve. The bow shop I go through is going to help me get setup and arrows figured out. Either way it will be fun.
  18. Henry long range with enough left over to get a nice scope for it.
  19. He hung them upside down and when rigor set in and they were frozen he would take them down and place a stick in the back end to keep them propped up. If you look at the second to last picture you can see the stick. I dont know why he did it but from what I was always told my grandpa had a weird sense of humor. So he probably found it funny.
  20. Here are picture of my grandfather and some of his deer. I know the biggest buck was in 1948 because of the date on the picture but not sure of the others. All taken in Norwich and preston ny. 3rd picture down is the tree everyone hangs their first deer on and I did as well before he went to the garage. Along with my dad and every other hunter in the family.
  21. Yep bought that harness last year it's great and it has the lineman loops also.
  22. It was a good season all around and it was fun following this thread. Hopefully it continues on. I wouldnt mind doing some sort of public land challenge. Get a bunch of people together and pick a big piece of stateland and make it a 3 day weekend hunt. No prior scouting allowed go in blind type of deal scout and hunt at the same time. Find a camp sight that can hold us all.
