Whats the stranges food that you know of that deer will eat
Swamp_bucks replied to phantom's topic in General Chit Chat
The plastic wrap on baleage. Think they would spit it out but they ate the plastic then the baleage. -
Just checked the weather ene wind, 58 for a high so down in that swamp I’m going shouldn’t get much above 50 for the high. Can’t wait not to often we get this type of weather for the opener.

Narrowed down my morning to 2 spots hoping for a doe to my knowledge there’s no bucks I’m interested in chasing in those woods but they have held a couple big ones. Saturday night I know right where I’m going. Hoping to catch whatever big buck is making the sign in a group of isolated oaks off the edge of a swamp I found Monday.

I do think that you can get a microphone to plug into it that mounts to the camera. My guess is it does have sounds just don’t know what the quality would be.

Would this work for you? Kodak makes a bunch of entry level cameras that take video in 730 or 1080

Been ready just need Saturday morning to get here

Another "Age This Buck" Thread...
Swamp_bucks replied to WNY Bowhunter's topic in Trail Camera Pictures
Besides buck number 4 my guess is all between 2.5-3.5 all seem to have slimmer bodies I would say number 4 is 3.5 and up. I’m not really good at judging them age wise unless there’s another deer in a picture. -
I agree 100-120” buck around me could be anywhere from a 2.5 or older and usually one of the most mature deer in the area. There are some outliers but for the most part 100” deer is a good deer. If you can shoot a 130 in any part of the state I think your correct you probably killed one of the better bucks for that season. I’ve personally shot 3 8s over the last 4 years all over 3.5 and range from 85”-128”.

went on a squirrel slash scouting trip. Found an awesome spot all tore up rubs, scrapes and tracks everywhere. It’s a 3 acre oak flat that leads into a swamp. Only oaks that have acorns are right at the point and it’s all white oaks. My guess is bedding to be just off the point 75yrds from the oaks. With no sign of any hunters from past years. I snuck my way out and there had to be over 100rubs over the 1/2 mile walk out from last year all waist high. On the way out I came across a small crab apple orchard with bear tracks in it. Wind sets up perfect for opening night so I’m going to try sneak into the oak flat early. the cherry tree picture is 75yrds from the point with a rub on each side and a scrape on the left with tracks in it. All the oaks are out in front. With 3 trails connecting 20yrds in front of the tree and 2 trails coming past in a v shape 20 yrds on each side of the cherry. Wind should be blowing left to right up the hill that night. Hoping for a strong enough wind the thermals don’t mess with my scent to much

Nothing squirrel related but found what I think is one of the bucks I’m after bedding area. Post more in my journal

Think I might grab the old 22lr and go for a squirrel slash scouting trip into a new piece of stateland just to see how it lays out.
-
Wind stays like they are calling for I may end up on doe patrol off a meadow on stateland opening night. Morning hunt still in the air it’ll be a shorter sit because I need to get some miles on my boots to find the bedding areas the bucks I’m after have gone.
-
Yep my daughters cat likes to bring them into the house and hide them after he kills them. Think we are up to 6 since September started.

Driving around and glassing.

Went for a ride tonight and the big 7 has shifted almost 2 miles away. However he had a new friend a giant 10pt I haven’t seen this year. So I’m going to have to see what I can come up with on that chunk of stateland. Still haven’t been able to find the split g2 buck that was hanging out with the big 7 all summer.

See what the weather is doing. I have a couple spots in mind for each type of wind.
