  1. ive used it several times and its worked well. I bought some arrows from an older guy that ran a pt shop. GREAT guy but he mustve had some old glue and the fletches always fell off. Tried the quick fletch and they worked perfect.
  2. ive caught a few gar in Black river bay off Ontario. We used to go in the shallows and there would be hundreds of them. Was considering goign there cause we have gotten some big walleye out of there. But i am thinking late sept it will be a zoo as salmon season is starting. I considered champlain as i have never been there but its too far for a day drive from my place. Nice fish! That had to be fun
  3. Im considering taking a last of the season fishing day in late Sept. I have a couple places in mind. Gotta discuss it with Corey. One is the St. Lawrence for walleye and musky which i have some experience in and would know where to go and rigs etc. But I am also thinking maybe for Lakers somewhere within a couple of hours. I think i would like to jig for them rather than troll. Im eyeing Cayuga and possibly raquette lake. And yes i know ontario is the #1 option but I am not comfortable with that big water and I want to be able to enjoy the day. Any info on lakes for some Lake trout with a chance of one 10+ pounds? Any recommendations on where to launch on Cayuga and start off for some jigging trout? Anyone been on raquette - there are also brookies there but Cayuga sounds like a chance of more action. Also would be good with a chance at some decent browns, bows .....Thoughts?
  4. always thought a lot of ears like that might be due to frostbite. Got to figure its a very thin area and very susceptible to the extreme cold when its below zero.
  5. respect to a man that rearranges to make bacon, her birthday will come around again next year.
  6. thats what we are planting is a blend. We are doing one real small kill plot with a "honey hole" blend. Then the other larger spot doing an area of honey hole, then a larger area of a whitetail mix, then a small area behind that of radish. Thinking gun season the radish comes more into play so that will be farther out, then the mixes more in bow range for earlier season. (ie @Lomax master plan!) But it still wont be a huge area as we just arent able to do that there so just planting in the existing trails.
  7. im looking to plant the weekend of July 24th. Looks like a cooler weekend according to the long range forecast. We are putting in food plots for the first time and of course a neighbor about 1/2 mile away put in a good sized new cornfield. Hoping it doesnt draw too much away from us as our plots will be small.
  8. Dunno much about tractors but I know it's awesome to have new dirt! Congrats on the new land!
  9. i have an older pic of triplets where i used to hunt.
  10. Hope those big ones from last year make an appearance on your spot again. I don't think you had any summer pics of them last year either , if I remember correctly. But didn't you have an 8 and a 10 on cam there? That happens where I hunt too. Not much for good bucks til season starts.
  11. I'd put that picture on my dash before I headed out to hunt. Well worth the time to drive out there to hunt that.
  12. which eastons you shooting ? after i bought the axis 5mm I found another one that is supposed to be closer to the bemans i was shooting - the Easton classic 6.5s . I was going to order some of those too but i now have 10 hunting arrows, 6 practice arrows and 6 Eastons to try out. And on a normal year might go thru 2 arrows.
  13. yes me too and Beman went out of business. So i also am eyeing other arrows. I did find some left from a couple of members here that pointed me in the right direction. But i did order some eastons axis 5mm to try out. Ive shot those bemans for a long time and always liked them. The eastons are a lot thinner. will have to see how they fly.
  14. Had this idea in my head for a bit now and finally made it. A southern play on eggs Benedict. Fried green tomatoes double battered in hushpuppy mix. Then smoked sausage a soft egg and hollandaise sauce. It was great.
  15. The best advice I have is that the learning and the chess game are as much fun as actually getting a deer. Be sure to enjoy it all. Don't worry about height on a stand. Finding a spot that you can blend in and use each stand during the right wind direction is far more important. Use lighted nocks for your arrows. Huge help on knowing where the shot hit. Waiting on a shot deer all depends on shot placement. I usually wait a minimum of a half an hour before I even look at the arrow. If there is blood everywhere and I feel I had a heart or double lung I will start to look. But a stomach shot need to wait 8+ hours if you can. Trail cams are so much fun and great for scouting even if you only have one to start. Enjoy it all.
  16. Hope to see a pic of you posing with him this season!
  17. Got out for a short bit. Lots going on this weekend. One thing got cancelled so we have time to get out on the lake. Threw back 5-6 shorts. But 4 keepers. Not a bad day.
  18. Venison tenderloin sandwich with greens made from chard, green onions and jalapenos from the garden and swiss. Cooked greens in olive oil and garlic. And of course some onion rings. So good.
  19. First day I worked for the NYSDOT many many years ago, it was pouring. So i brought a full rain suit esp since i am the new guy so I know it will be me in the rain. Get to work and 4 of us get a in a 6 man patrol truck and the foreman takes us down into the trail area of a state park a couple miles down the road. I am thinking ok prob cutting brush in here or something. So i put the jacket on and get the rain pants ready. He pulls the truck off the dirt road into a parking area and shuts it off. And without saying a word each of them pulls their hats down over their eyes and stretches out for a nap....ummmmm . So i think for second they are joking with the new guy..... nope. lol We stayed there about an hour. Then they drove out to the main base in town showed me around there. We then had lunch. yeah..... I shouldve stayed there. LOL Winters were tough though i basically lived there. Wouldnt want to do that all my life for sure.
  20. I like corn for more than just feed. It gives the deer cover and they feel more secure and it gives you cover getting in and out of your stand. Like @doebuck1234said find those funnels and where they cross in the corn. And hunt em. They will use those trails all season .
  21. a good day for that young fella !
  22. for $2000 i can carry 4 of my crossbows and send it! lol
