2017 live from the lake , ocean , pond , stream, river thread
Robhuntandfish replied to turkeyfeathers's topic in Fishing
love bringing in Jacks that are as big as the eyes!. We got so we fish for perch and the occasional walleye was a bonus. Plus you can get 50 perch and only three eyes. I cooked up a whole plate of fillets this weekend and with a cold beer thats about as good as it gets. -
What's your dream outdoor trip?
Robhuntandfish replied to Robhuntandfish's topic in General Chit Chat
there are some great ideas here! Its very interesting that almost all picked something based on the adventure, and that there were hardly any whitetails in these trips. Prob because we all get to hunt them now. But its interesting to see so many waterfowl and gamebirds too. We are a diverse group for sure. -

That just kills me. I live right on Oneida and I just don't have the heart to get out there. I fight the winter so much at work I just can't do it. Nice catch, makes me so look forward to spring. Caught a bunch of nice jacks last year and just can't wait. Me and a buddy were talking perch fishing this weekend. -

What's your dream outdoor trip?

if having even one person get closer to their dream hunt , then this thread was a success!!! -
i think that parents dont mentor or get their kids into it as much cause there are less of us to mentor. And back in the old days kids were more exposed to the outdoors cause they were going regardless. Now most kids right from the beginning are less into hunting as they have so many other options and parents will let kids do and get into what interests them. There are so many things available at a kids fingertips to do these days. All the people i know that are parents are just on the run for extra curricular acitivities. Then add in the computer abilities and next flix and games and texting and .......... Back in the day if you told youre parents you were bored - they said go outside and do something..... so you did. Just the cultural change alone will continue to drive down numbers of people interested in the shooting sports. One good trend has been that there are more girls interested in hunting these days. But we cant mentor people that at such a your age arent already into hunting too often. Lets face it 90% of us got the interest from our fathers, i have several hunting buddies that have kids and they have taken them out , but they just arent interested cause they are into so many other things and have so many options. Overall it might not be a bad thing for kids to have so many options in the world but it will continue to see a drop in interest in hunting .

What's your dream outdoor trip?

I cant imagine what your "dream hunt" must be. At this point is there one? Like hunting the Tasmanian Tiger or something...... -
In all actuality I would never make all the travel.. I don't even like driving to Syracuse. Lol. Sure is impressive all that you have done. I wouldn't be able to keep up for a minute. You need Jim Shockey as a travel buddy. Hell I got the shakes when I shot a coyote this year with the crossbow from the ground. Youd be sick of me real quick cause i keep shooting stuff before it gets too close to us. And firing off shots cause I thought I saw a snake etc..... Yeah I'm best of in my own little piece of the world. Keep up the awesome adventures!!! And I will live through ypur stories on my couch.

I've done some research in college on those pigs and it is true! Lol

Well I do agree with part of this. Access will continue to be a problem and leasing and buying and even renting land for hunting will increase. I also think the general public will continue to become more and more negative to hunting. Due to several reasons. The experience of many in the outdoors is decreasing as children just are not inot the outdoors as people once were. Video games are the choice of free time and can be accessed anytime in any weather. How many kids do you even see outside on a snow day anymore? Etc Less of a need for hunting as food source, the decline of a young hunter base and just am overall decline in outdoor and more primitive sports. Look even the NFL is on a decline, violence based sports and hunting will continue to have more people look down on it as less people are in the outdoors or have an understanding of it. Also the increase of restrictions on firearms and the uneasiness to outright fear many people have for them. Less people have the need to hunt for food and more people don't think there isnt a need for a firearm then other than to do bad things with it. As far as antler obsession. I think in all sports there is a note of competition, but in hunting a lot of it is a competition within a person if they have the ability. Of course a hunter wants to bag the big buck, that's just natural. But I don't think it should be labeled as an obsession. Just look at the list of dream trips on this site in another thread. The minority of them reflect monster 200 inch whitetails and more are for the experience. Most of us hunt just for that, the experiences we grew up with and the enjoyment of wild places and experiences. Just like anything else if you have a chance at a big buck ypur going to try for it, but I already know that my chance of getting one is very slim, yet it doesn't make me want to hunt less. Most people that go after these larger whitetails have the ability and means to do so. So why wouldn't they. But to say the number one thing is antler size is missing out on the fact that it is just enjoyable. A day out fishing and getting a limit is of course a great day but it's not what got me up and put the door to go. It was for the experience and enjoyment and the take was secondary. Just because I would like to take a big buck doesn't mean I have to to enjoy it.

Rotate the tires every other oil change and they generally will all need to replaced at the same time anyway.

What's your dream outdoor trip?
Robhuntandfish replied to Robhuntandfish's topic in General Chit Chat
That's a great idea. On trips I always like to throw something in like a 3d shoot, or shooting range or something. Gold panning would be awesome for half a day. And it is def nice to dream about. -

Well now I have to add to my trip.....lol. Scarlett Johansson cause well.... yeah.....and Ariel Tweito from the show flying wild Alaska cause I bet she knows how to clean fish too. -
I am planning on submitting my resume to be Dinsdales gun caddy. (Lol) So what do you think....... "I'm strong as an ox and almost as smart. I can gut, skin and drag and quarter anything up to a wildebeast. I'm a good cook, have a clean record, and can be a great wingman when needed. I can make a decent old fashioned, can open a beer bottle with a truck bumper, and am even willing to point at stuff for you to shoot at. Only payment I need is to be able to shoot some game that you would pass on and a night off once a month to go into town. Have experience carrying guns for over 30 years." Whatcha think guys....will I get the job?!

I have two dream trips but they are almost the same. Big Brook trout fishing and moose hunting in Newfoundland. And either char or rainbows and caribou in Alaska. Will never get to either of these but have always wanted to do something like that. Don't regret not having had the chance cause I have had a great outdoor life and experiences for sure. But these would be the deal! Hoping I get close to this one day and draw a Maine moose tag.

I would say white would go with that instead of red as a pairing, but maybe not exactly that white....

Of you plan on off roading def go 4 wheel as you can get 4 low and better torque. For everyday driving AWD handles better. If you ever make tight turns and have ypur 4 wheel buck, AWD won't do that. But with AWD it is on all the time , 4wheel you can turn on and off as needed. Would say if you off road at all go 4wheel. If you don't drive a lot on bad roads would also go 4wheel to save fuel money and can turn it off as needed. If you don't mind the fuel expense and want better handling on daily roads for snow, rain etc, but no real off roading then AWD .
