  1. Nice take guys. And the ice ought to be great right thru the weekend. Saw a ton of people of off lewis pt area today. Good year for you ice guys for a change.
  2. Quiche is a favorite at brunches, baby showers and hipster diners. Prob not something your gonna take to hunting camp for the boys . At least more than once. In all transparency I have eaten it, made it and enjoyed it. I am confident in my manhood enough to enjoy the quiche. But be warned side effects might be a thirst for Mimosa's, the need to watch the view and the feeling you need to now spray the bathroom after your morning constitutional.
  3. we made ninja stars in shop class when the teacher was napping or sneaking a drink with the art teacher. And this was in the 80's. lol
  4. Im with ya . Def of hunting with my Dad. I didnt get to hunt much with my Dad as he was older and had gotten pretty sick when I was a teen. But we went out hunting my first time up in Lewis county. We were walking a trail and I stepped right square in a huge pile of bear crap. and I said " what the heck is that" and he told me " well .... its bear crap and they do s$#@ in the woods" and it was all over my boot and we laughed so loud no animal of any kind was gonna be near us. But i have to throw in a fishing memory --- not to be off track, but everytime we went trout fishing I would come back from walking the stream and my dad would be sitting on a big rock, having a cigarette and his creel and pole next to him. And every time he would ask how i did and i would show him my trout. And then i would ask him and he would say he did ok. And in that creel would be the nicest trout youve ever seen in your life. And right to the very end of his life when he was still just able to get out and fish a little , we went to Chittenango creek. And my Dad stayed by the road and the bridge cause he couldnt really go very far and i walked way up the stream and caught a couple and was gone a little while. I came back to check on him and he was sitting there with the creel and two tails sticking out of it cause the trout were too big to fit! and I bet he didnt walk 75 yards up the stream. I will always remember this and if there is an afterlife of some sort that is how I want to find myself -- walking up a trout stream to see him sitting there with that creel!
  5. damn it am i turning into a quiche dude...........cause all my jeans are tight! Its prob because of the man buns I have as well! damn it!
  6. have heard a lot of people say that more girls became interested in archery after the movie the hunger games
  7. Tfeathers ......is this a a a site you are also a member of?? and yes I did stutter cause i am worried!
  8. those words have no need to be spoken. If your willing to eat it then she should be willing to call it egg pie. isnt marriage all about give and take? and put enough Franks on it that no women would dare eat it!!!
  9. My third semester of college I signed up for archery. The coach let us bring our compound bows in. It was awesome!! Best class I ever had! There was 3 of us that hunted and we got to practice every other day for 45 minutes and get credit for it. These days they prob wouldn't allow them on the property. There are some colleges now that have fishing / tournament teams. Now that's worth going to college for.
  10. i wonder if they realize it really doesnt slow down anything. And also wonder if the Deans from these colleges listed appreciatte the notoriety. And that it just gives us something else to talk about.
  11. i mentioned this a little and in another thread as well. But yes cultural change is a def issue these days. I remember those days as well of no one being at school on the gun opener and always taking the first day of trout off. It was always funny cause in high school they started giving me a hard time about not having a written excuse. Even the NFL is on a decline for the same reasons (among others) . Change will hapen whether we like it or not and there are so many more options these days for younger people . The world has gotten a lot smaller with the internet and a whole lot bigger for people at the same time.
  12. Im gonna look a little more into saving for that Newfoundland trip for moose and brookies. I picked newfoundland cause i am not much of a traveler and this wouldnt be too bad for me. And the brook trout fishing is what my Dad and i always did. He never got the chance to go on a trip like that , wish we could have. I have put in for maine moose tags for a long time now and am hoping one day that pans out , but newfoundland might be in reach. Was actually making a plan that me and my buddy when we retire go on a trip right after so this might be it.
  13. of course you hope for a big buck , but its not what gets me out in the woods. If it was I would never go, havent seen very many in my life. When fishing you hope for a wall hanger but I am still fishing for perch. Bowling you hope for a 300 - not why you went bowling. Its the event , the fun, the adventure. I can listen to music on my car radio- but people go to a concert for the event. A huge buck is just a bonus, a chance, a goal someday, but not the reason i get up at 5 am and walk into the woods.
  14. Goal every year is to refill the freezer. Although hoping for a big buck in the process, it certainly doesn't make or break the season. Enjoying the whole process from setup to sealer is what's its all about.
  15. I'm gonna wait for the thumbs up or down review by Tfeathers first.
  16. My longtime favorite outdoor store has announced they are selling. The owner states that due to the increase in online sales and that the family doesn't want to continue the business he is selling out. This sucks. It's the only outdoor store in oneida and has been here forever. Online sites are ok but can go there and be heads on with stuff. Just bought a 12 g there this fall that was a great deal. Went there today and used up my gift cards cause dunno what might happen down the line. They say their stores are gonna be sold but who knows how that ends. Someone may buy them out and close them all. Def a loss for the area and another brick and mortar store is gone. So much small business has to contend against. It was the big box stores and now online sales. But there is nothing like wandering thru the outdoor store to look at things that are real and right in front of you. Will miss this store for sure and several of the very helpful people that have worked there .
  17. yes but not in Oneida - pretty sure it was for the allegheny river system, Champlain and Erie. They havent done a Sauger or Saugeye stock in Oneida cause it would interfere with the walleye population. DEC website says only champlain has a population of them. But who knows these days - with the reintroduction of sturgeon (which are doing very well) and the atlantic salmon in the lake i might have missed it. But last i knew Oneida wasnt on the list as an area to introduce them.
  18. Drones are for squatchin!
  19. no saugers in Oneida lake. But they sure are similar. Esp the smaller ones.
  20. love bringing in Jacks that are as big as the eyes!. We got so we fish for perch and the occasional walleye was a bonus. Plus you can get 50 perch and only three eyes. I cooked up a whole plate of fillets this weekend and with a cold beer thats about as good as it gets.
  21. there are some great ideas here! Its very interesting that almost all picked something based on the adventure, and that there were hardly any whitetails in these trips. Prob because we all get to hunt them now. But its interesting to see so many waterfowl and gamebirds too. We are a diverse group for sure.
  22. That just kills me. I live right on Oneida and I just don't have the heart to get out there. I fight the winter so much at work I just can't do it. Nice catch, makes me so look forward to spring. Caught a bunch of nice jacks last year and just can't wait. Me and a buddy were talking perch fishing this weekend.
