uh oh. Got feeling this piece of equipment might get the "office space" treatment! hide the baseball bats! that sucks. nothing like being setup to go and not have it work right. Gonna make some snack sticks myself this weekend.

yeah thats a lot of area. If you go the siamese pond area or really a lot of spots, best be sure you have some maps. I would also suggest a couple of scout trips so you know where your going. Thats some BIG woods. Wouldnt just go up there and go for it without some scouting first, unless youve really done some wilderness camping and backpacking before. Ive gone up and looked at a topo and picked out some spots that looked good to hunt - funnels etc. Then cut off trail to get to them and find a ravine in the way that wouldve scared lewis and clark.

lol. dont think i ever read a whole assigned school book to read. Also never did any homework. Teachers used to tell me I would have a 4.0 if i did the homework and i would tell them i would have a 4.0 if they didnt give me any. - they didnt all like that too much. I liked any teacher that told us what the homework was gonna be in class cause i would hand it to them done before I left . 500 word essay - here ya go! lol. Always told them I will take any test you have right now and i will pass it, Ive been here all day I'm not taking work home too. lol but dont do much reading these days , just to busy.

Was the last stop on the way to camp for a lot of things. Esp after the store closed in Indian lake. Including a book for a rainy lazy day. I think in picked up a book on Garrow ( sp) a killer and manhunt in the Adirondacks. That was a good book.
-
They sure do. That's a cool little store. Stopped there one time after fishing . I happened to be alone and the people there helped me take a picture and weigh a northern I just caught. And my favorite books are mostly biographies. Like reading those about different people. Ted Williams biography was a good read for sure.

The fire dept here has their own hovercraft just because of ice rescues. They do a lot of training for it. Every year there are multiple rescues needed. It freaks me out when the lake will crack really loud sometimes almost like thunder from a big ice crack . They also have a lot of snowmobile issues with people flying across the lake and hitting a pressure crack and wrecking. I stay off the ice. Def not wise for guys my size to be on ice. Same goes for wicker. Lol

We aren't going to change each other's minds 4 seasons and that's ok. Never afraid of a healthy debate. But I also don't think your going to sway the DEC any either. And for my opinion I am at least glad of that.
-
It's also good to learn that severe weather has no effect on deer. There are no winter kills. Thanks for my lesson in deer management. I'm guessing your deer do much better with their unlimited food supply and heated water troughs but don't see many of those in the wild these days.
-
Yeah I got it. I gotta start putting (sarcasm) in air quotes. Lol
-
Just ran home for lunch and there is at least 75 little ice tents out on the east side of oneida lake.

hear that guys we arent putting stress on the herd! so we dont need to shorten the southern season even with the northern tier coning down here to hunt too! So although they arent up there they are still stressing the northern herd too! Im going back to the bacon and puppies threads they make more sense. lol
-
You do realize deer season in the southern zone is Oct 1-dec 19?
-
Too bad I was hoping for bacon at the reception!
-
So what does the long season work in the southern tier but not the northern tier..... Not because of habitat? Why is there more deer in southern tier ? Not because of poor habitat or winter conditions.
-
So 31 below zero in December doesn't effect deer and I don't understand. Ok.
-
right - next to Fort drum - yup know right where it is. - how many inches of snow did you get already this season? What was the temp there yesterday - record in Watertown. Thats what keeps your deer herd down. So your telling me that 5 - 7 less days of hunting will save the herd up there ?? - your delusional
-
so no more traditional day after thanksgiving and weekend hunting...... thats a great idea everyone will go for. And yeah no one will be against not having a mid november start and want to wait til hunt with the gun til the end of november - never happen
-
the north issue is habitat if your talking about the dacks. Not an extra 7 days of season. Hunted the North for most of my life and moved to hunting south cause of the deer numbers. Couldnt agree with you more. The issue up there is cold hard winters and lack of habitat and too much old growth forest. Not 5 -7 days of extra hunting. As you see all the arguements here that the deer take numbers would be the same - these 5-7 days less arent the problem there.
-
i was joking about people and sex. Mostly DEC has always had a closed season during breeding times for fishing - if they did the same for hunting I would bet it would be at the end of bow season - would you be willing to give up a week of bow season ? A lot of people that are more than willing to give up a week of gun - would they be willing to give up a week of prime bow hunting ?
-
so if you want less pressure during the rut then your arguement would be to close season Nov 1-10, the peak of the rut- right in bow season! please nooooooooo...... they seem to be rutting just fine as the deer numbers are not in trouble....
-
But only 66% of the time to hunt. Does everyone but me just hunt for the take only and not the love of being out hunting? If the take is the same as you say, then there is no reason to shorten it. ( which the take would drop, just because there is less time to hunt, which means less hours in the field by 33% so it will have to drop at least some). Not everyone can get time off to hunt or be able to anytime. There are plenty of work places where guys fight for hunting time off as it is, and not everyone can take the first week of deer season off at the same time. Shorten it and they have less of a chance to get out. It creates a sense of urgency to shorten it because you have less time to enjoy it, why would you want to limit the time you have to hunt. I will just never understand this. lol guess i have to move on ..... cause to me its like saying ---- hey lets not have sex for a month cause it will be better then. lol , Its great anytime!
-
there was my point all along.....life gets in the way of hunting. Just happens. Make it shorter and less hunting for us all isnt a win. Glad you had some luck while you were out, but still sucks not to be able to get out as much as we all would like to.
