  1. Woke up at 6 am and the house was a little cool checked thermostat and it was 5 degrees cooler than the setting....uh oh..... checked out furnace...nothing. reset it and it came on and for a minute then shut off. Tried again...same... Had to call a buddy on new year's day at 6:30 in the morn that's in the furnace business. (And an avid hunter). So by 9:30 heat is working. Whew. Frozen gelled lines. And it was -18 here this morn. Then girlfriend calls as she just got home from work early this morn and her water is frozen. Ugh..... salamander going in basement and water is now moving. And this is the first day of the year.... My buddy has another 20 calls this weekend and had to turn some people away, has guests at his house and still came over. Good to have friends. Hope everyone else is starting out on a better foot.
  2. Man you are having a good time out there in the woods. Making your "blonde" collapse. Tiffany just might be meeting you out there. Lol
  3. Chicken wing dip. Cooked and cut up and shredded chicken then mixed with blue cheese or ranch, cream cheese and Franks hot sauce, then topped with cheddar cheese and baked in the oven . It's one of my favorite things. There are a few different variations but that's the base of it. So damn good. Gotta have celery and scoops chips to dip with. And yes Jim beam for some Jim and Ginger.
  4. Chicken wing dip, spinach dip, meatballs, venison and peppers and onions for mini tortilla's, veges, cranberry pretzel salad, mini peppers stuffed with venison sausage cheese and stuffing, deviled eggs, Jim and Ginger.......
  5. My Dad always had a tradition of big bunch of snack stuff for new year's. Had to do the same. Chicken wing dip, spinach dip, meatballs, stuffed mini peppers with venison sausage, cheese and stuffing, deviled eggs, veges, venison and onion and peppers for mini tortilla's, cranberry pretzel salad, and of course a beer and maybe a Jim and Ginger. Happy new years folks.
  6. Just made and sealed a boatload of venison snack sticks! Good thing to do on a day that hasn't gotten above 5 degrees yet.
  7. One area I hunt has a lot of tight basket racks. Enough so that it sticks out that it seems like a genetic trend for the area. Shot a seven point there that I could fit inside the beam of most 4's. There also seems to be a lot of 3 points on one side and a lone one on the other in this area as well. Will have at least 3 like that on cams every year. Don't see this in other spots I have hunted. But palmation is a cool trend to have for sure.
  8. Same thing happened to my GF on Xmas weekend. Glad she had her shopping done. But couldn't get to a bank for a new card for a couple days. It happens so much. But at least they caught it. Good luck
  9. Yeah different parts of NY sure vary. Maybe more than anywhere. From hunting long island (which to me just sounds daunting) , to the big old growth of the dacks, to the more farm rich southern zones etc.... My only point was to not shorten a season across the state when the issue is probably regional and more to do with habitats. That's it's unfair to shorten the gun season for all.
  10. Lol true. But at least I had the DEC as backup and they have the final say. It's like kids argueing then Dad steps in and tells us it doesn't matter cause these are the rules!
  11. You will find a better one that works. Once you do it goes easy. I just ground up 5 lbs of venison yesterday and am making snack sticks today. Took me less than 10 minutes tondo that grinding.
  12. Wth where were you when I was defending this against a mod and a sponsor. I was debating ypur point for you, could've used a little backup! I will never pick you as my battle buddy! Even the guys I was debating with would agree with me on this. Lol. Just busting on you, I'm a big boy I can handle myself. But seriously not even a damn like......lol
  13. A rifled 12......ok ok.....then the savage .22 mag and .410 combo gun. It has both! Lol
  14. Just had prime rib at my moms with the neices and nephews and some folks. Mashed taters, corn and Oreo cookie cake for dessert. For the love of .......the holidays are like an endless episode of man vs food. And yes I may be winning now but it's gonna get me in the 12 th round.
  15. I am eyeing a Ruger myself for my next gun purchase. Looking at that 450 Bushmaster ranch rifle. Waiting for a gun sale agian at herb phillipsons as I have a bunch of gift cards for there.
  16. I have some walleye and perch in the freezer, great meal in the winter when the boat is in storage.
  17. It is definitely a real fun time of year when deer bow and fall turkey are open at the same time. Two years ago I had two big does just out of range to my left and across the field 14 turkeys. They all walked around the field for an hour and never got a shot at any of them but it was great. Have shot one with the bow before, was surprised they didn't see me draw. Good luck on finding the new spot to hunt that really sucks for sure, esp after being there so long. A lot of people are more open to bow hunters too if ypur looking for new places to hunt. There is just so much more action, it's warmer, it's just the best time of year. Take the class with your daughter then she will be able to bowhunt if she ever wanted to and something cool to do together.
  18. Ok guys and gals I thought about this the other day and can't think of a better time than the day between his birthday and new years..... But Turkeyfeathers is pretty much the grand pooba on this site we all know it. And we all owe him for his sage advice, funny quips, enlightening posts and overall help with a lot of things. So we need to return the favor and offer our advice as best we can. We need to talk him into joining the ranks of us bow hunters. We all enjoy it so much and I know he has thought about it. My suggestion is to start off with a crossbow as it is prime hunting time and the transition from gun to crossbow is an easy one....a trigger a scope and don't have to practice for endless hours. (Let's stay on point here no bow vs crossbow arguments) So what say you people.......talk him into it and all that he is missing out, we owe him that!! And if you don't agree with the push to get him into bowhunting at least give him the best advice you can today. But I am hoping we can talk him into it. Plus he will be able to chime in with more advice and stories for us too with bowhunting! Ok Turkeyfeathers, here we come! Lol and thanks for your input on this site all year!
