Good hunter vs Pretty girl....
Robhuntandfish replied to Robhuntandfish's topic in General Chit Chat
i once heard if they dont find you handsome they can at least find you handy so i better get some deer! and would send a pic but you all would be putting up treestands around her house. -
My girlfriend is on a mission and she thinks she's funny. She doesnt hunt (has license but an injured shoulder from a car accident) . She always gets a free deer from a friend of hers. Its all packaged and labeled etc in a box. Her friend has land and they let someone hunt there and the guy gives them a whole processed deer every year, and they don't like venison. So she passes it along to her. (and yes I tried to get into that hunting deal - no luck, guys been there a while and even $ wouldnt work) And she also has a couple friends that are hunting this year but are not real big on venison but are hunting with some family, and told her they would give her a bunch of venison too! she says she thinks she might be able to get more deer than me and never set a toe in the woods! I got three deer last year - one with bow, crossbow and gun! who you placing your bets on for the most venison in the freezer?? lol and Damn it must be good to be pretty cause she doesnt even have to leave the house to get a deer in the cold! lol Good thing i enjoy the hunting too!

went out for a trip for bear Sat - tues, glad the fishing was good! We caught a lot of bass on the lake on our way to the other side. Only hunted one am out of 3 days cause of the weather. When planned it sure didnt expect 90 degrees! Had a bald eagle 10 feet from me in the fog that was cool! But after we got back the neighbors in a camp just down the way said 30 minutes after we launched boat a bear was on the point near the boats and camps and they were taking pics of it. - perfect! lol but had some good food, a couple beers and a lot of laughs! and the place was beautiful!

My Dream gun.......
Robhuntandfish replied to Robhuntandfish's topic in Hunting Gear Reviews and Gear Discussions
best of luck to us both! we need to break them in! I traded in a savage 220 20g to help pay for it. But glad I did. .270 is def a great round and works for everything too. -
totally like how the NY seasons are setup. 2 buck tags, a month and a half of bow, 2 weeks crossbow, 3 weeks of gun and then a late muzzle. Perfect for me. I have 5 deer tags to fill as well. Think this is one thing NY gets right.

i was gonna try to explain to her that there could be a secondary rut if the right moon phase occurred ( re - if I tag out early lol ) .......but didnt think I could get my point across romantically enough!

My Girlfriend says she knows this is my time of year, but says is sad that "Girlfriend season" is over. LOL wow that is too funny! She is great about not complaining about my hunting time.....course she also works weekends....lol.

My Dream gun.......
Robhuntandfish replied to Robhuntandfish's topic in Hunting Gear Reviews and Gear Discussions
leaving on an adirondack bear hunt tomorrow. Doubting i will get to use it cause its gonna be 87 degrees for crying out loud, but am ready. Love a lever action and 30-06. so this was the one for me. -
okay ..... pulled the trigger ....so to speak. Couldnt help it. This is the gun I have always wanted and i just got it yesterday. A Browning BLR lever in 30-06. Put a nikon 2x7 on it. Now i have my one favorite rifle to use for deer, bear, hogs, moose, elk (never been for moose or elk but trying to draw some tags, going for hogs in SC next year). But this is the gun i have been eyeing forever. Whats the gun youve always wanted that you havent gotten......

a piebald buck. Cant get more cool than that! -
choot 'em!

i always shoot bow for heart over 30 yards! If i am to miss chances are it would be low and not a bad high shot and if they jump the string then I would get lungs anyway.
-
wont add enough sweetness to the meat to really notice a difference. But try a cherry compote/sauce with venison - its great!

is that was CWD does??

bow practice for me starts off with a couple of sets of heavy shooting to be sure everything is zeroed in , then its shoot a 40,30,20 shot once a week just to be sure I am still zeroed in. Too much practice tends to get me tweaking the bow my miligrams back and forth. And def there are days it would seem i am just off, so if off I tend to wait til tomorrow and shoot again to be sure if its me, cause it usually is. But once its on - i am usually set for the season. I will still shoot once a week to be sure nothign got bumped when hunting.

i seem to use trail cameras as a way of hunting before season! they are fun and i put them in areas actually away from my stand and leave them for at least 3 weeks at a time. I just want to see what might be out there. I know i have stands near areas used by deer a lot and dont want to keep going in there and bump them. But i like to see whats out theere and seeing a big one helps keep my inn the stand longer! During season i will move them closer to stand and that way can check them when i am already going in and out to hunt. I have 5 cams and that seems about right. I hunt 4 different properties, 2 are real small so only need one cam there. usually have 2 out on a 60 acre spot and then me and a buddy share 120 acres and we usually use 3 together there.
