  1. and if its anything 40 or over am aiming low. Cause if they jump string dont want to make a high shot. If miss will then miss low and not high. I generally aim low for all shots anyway not dead center deer
  2. with bow my longest distance is 45 yards. I set a cutoff there. Have a 40 yard pin and am pretty good at 40 but not guessing a shot over 45 yards. Too many variables . less accurrate, less speed from bow, longer for deer to jump string....
  3. last year to try them out me and a hunting buddy split a pack of three. We each took one and whoever shot a deer first got the other one. Yes I have two! lol. I use the lighted nock arrow just for my afternoon hunts
  4. i have used the green and red nockturnals and both have worked great. Learned how to turn them off from a you tube video and its pretty easy. But i like that they dont light up til shot. I get them right at walmart for $20 for 3 . Sure think its worth it to judge better how long to wait to look for the deer. Cant always tell by the blood. Last year shot a deer and it ran across the field just before dark with the light on and the farmer said "I saw the light" from inside and told me right where the deer went into the woods. Huge help seeing that shot, sometimes its hard to tell where placement was.
  5. started using lighted nocks last year and just love them . Use the nockturnals and they only light up when you shoot. Can really tell shot placement better after the shot. They add a bit of $ to an arrow but well worth it I think. Plus these eyes aint what they used to be and need a damn light on everything to see better! lol
  6. Wear gloves on the way in and the way out. In the stand never wear them . Muff and hand warmers when needed. Im about as useful as a monkey humping a football with gloves on! Plus my hands still get cold in gloves.
  7. def would stop and talk to them and if they are taken back by this other guy offer to lease it with only access for you. If they dont want anything to do with it , I would prob move on as well. Dont want to be argueing with someone in the woods when hunting is my time to enjoy myself.
  8. i always look when I target shoot. Honestly have no idea if I look or not when on a deer! lol But hopefully I line up the same out of habit and memory.
  9. wish we had more in this area. But they are def increasing.
  10. welcome and best of luck! Maybe even ask a couple neighbors with small parcels of land for hunt permission to get you started. I have two places i hunt that are 9 acres and 12 acres. A good place to hunt is always the toughest. And by good i dont mean loaded with boone and crocket bucks, just a place you know you can go out and have for your own etc. Dont know if you bow hunt but the local bowshop is a good place to get to know some hunters in the area. But would suggest getting into bowhunting cause its great! Glad your getting back into hunting!
  11. still amazes me how many guys have bear pics. Good luck!
  12. i bet if you offered them $500 a year - a real steal - that the handyman isnt going to be able to come up with that. Just tell them youve always wanted to hunt there and would like to be able to help out with the taxes for your neighbor being so friendly to let you hunt there. That even though you have permission would like to help them out but if paying would want to be only person to hunt there. see ya handyman! Had an issue this weekend where i got permission to hunt a small 12 acre spot that I have been meaning to ask about for years. Have known the owners for 25 years. They said yes and I went out to look and there was a new treestand out there. They werent too happy and found out it was a cousins wife brother in law and kicked them out cause they never asked.
  13. bucks are all hard horned here that I have seen for the most part.
  14. my Dad used to cook them up for breakfast with bacon and eggs at camp. Best meal ever for sure .
  15. Muff with a hand warmer in it!

  17. i have one booked for Feb 2019. With Waccamaw hunting in South Carolina. Havent been yet of course but did a lot of online research and reviews of this place were all great. All said owner Rick Grubbs was a great guy and worked hard to get them on a hog. If you book and go somewhere, would love to hear how it was. good luck
  18. I can remember still my first brook trout catch with my Dad on the Independence river! And I was hooked forever. Thats Great!!

  20. welcome aboard and nice bear! Maine is beautiful for sure. Hoping one day to draw a moose permit for there before i'm 70. congrats
  21. have been up there trout fishing years ago. Saw scat up near lost ponds on the trail. Was fishing sumner creek and there was a guy standing on the bridge that we could see back where we started. Then 2 guys. We fished for a bit and came back and had gotten a few trout and came back and they were still there. Guy said "you never saw it did you?" And when I asked 'what' he said there was a bear about 40 yards from us up the creek and it kept moving just ahead of us for like 3 different holes. I did see tracks and scat but never saw the bear. That stuff is thick. Dont really have an idea where to start up there but a lot of it is really thick and swampy for sure.
  22. and shes packin'! she might be better with the shotgun than you too! lol
