  1. Went back out for a few hours. Had a nice encounter with what we call Tall Tine 8. Came right out into the open, wind blowing away, nose to the ground, and grabbing 2 mouth full of clover before departing into the woods. He also shot some jelly beans out, LOL. Well, that still works. I shot at this guy, two years ago. Deflection caused the broadhead to hit him in the front leg. Nice to see he's still around.
  2. Someone bought software on price, not performance. This DECAL. system continues to spell Failure. Right on track where the rest of New York state is headed.
  3. Depends on wind conditions, as we have had our fair share this year. Ground sits sometimes give little more disadvantage as your scent will carry more to the ground. When elevated, your scent might tend to carry over the deer, and disperse more. Some food for thought.
  4. Polls are open till 9 pm. across the state. I'm taking the misses out for a t-bone dinner tomorrow, just so she can vote.
  5. Went and got 2- 8G at town hall 9:40 am. today. No waiting. Clerk confirmed system is still having problems. They were told there is still tags available for areas declined over the weekend. My tags had to be printed 3 times before got a usable set.
  6. Some great DIY information. You don't want to know what I typed the first time, LOL.
  7. Some great pics here, and on your web site too! I enjoy viewing them. Brings a smile every time.
  8. Well with the way this states being run, it sure doesn't surprise me that this is happening. Might be some more fuel for Rob Astorino's campaign.
  9. Awesome footage, to say the least. Bears fighting in the front yard, on the side walk, on the road. Cars going by and stopping. Reminds me of some neighbors I live by once, LOL.
  10. I had 3 single shots that started at 6:20 am. All from different areas. People must figure they purchased a muzzleloader license for crossbow, why not take the muzzleloader out and get a deer. Not a great experience this morning on the way out. I believed to have been challenged by a buck. Buck pee smell on the bottle and carrying antlers must of gave him the wrong idea to charge me. I grabbed an arrow but didn't need it. Be careful out there!
  11. Were more tags given out first go around? Has DEC. announced some type of error? Anyone know for sure?
  12. That northeast wind with a rain snow mix hammers ya. Ran out of hot tea already. Bumped something, I fear rather nice on the way in. Hope the saints are rewarding today on Nov, 1st, All Saints day.
  13. Another windy wet one here. Seeing some nice deer, but all not close enough. Good luck to those of you taking your crossbows out. As others have mentioned, don't forget to get those extra DMP's, in areas that have them available.
  14. Folks, it's all about out judicial system. Want to lower the trespassing rate, raise the fines, raise the penalties. Hit them where it counts, right in the pocket book! Right now, it's not working!
  15. I thought I just seen a ghost. It's amazing how close the genitics are between your area and ours. Trail cam pictures make them look smaller. That is one mature old boy, that's been around the block a few times! Now, I hope to see the pics with your hands on him, good luck!
  16. Deer move, windy or not. Here, they tend to stay more nocturnal during wind. On my other farm, they come right out in the open in the day light. This time of year, you most likely see a buck anytime. Get out there and get your deer!
  17. I fall plow snow under, if the conditions are right.
  18. Maybe fat or some kind of membrane material. Do you know where the hit was?
  19. Nice overcast cooler morning and it showed in the deer. Set up on a SW wind in a mowed lane way between the corn and the woods on the ground. Listen to all kinds of rustling for a good hour. Deer stated crossing right before 7:30. Big doe crossed the lane way 50 yards upwind. Fawns crossed closer. Ok, wheres the bucks? Sat till 8 or so, then got up and stretched. Looking downwind, I see a buck standing in the lane, looking back behind in the corn. If only it were firearms season, LOL. He swings back into the corn. Then a few minutes go by, and I hear racks smashing, crashing, and mashing closer than I really want to be to these boys. Stalking popped in my mind, but darn it, on the wrong side of the wind. We'll it wasn't long, I hear corn stalk being snapped off 18 rows in. I can't believe these deer aren't scenting me. I draw back, and the whole thing was over in a second. A flash of bodies wing past me, not giving me anytime to aim on any one of them.
  20. The " Deer Hunting" starts NOW!
  21. I don't mean to laugh at ya, but that deers dead somewhere.
  22. Get down wind from your last blood spot and start smelling. Work your way down to where you think she might have traveled. An over night killed deer will start to smell. You won't mistake the smell either. We find a fair amount of deer, with this technique.
  23. Could be experiencing hair slip if the hide is left on for an extended period. We don't skin right away in the colder weather, so we will take a stiff hair brush to remove hair before skinning. I like to tan hides also, and it help with that process also. Don't get all the hair floating in the pickle.
