  1. That does sound good. Rest of the red wine would go good with the dinner too. Does the tomato sauce take the gamey taste away?
  2. So how are the trees doing, that were planted? I put in several dozen red oaks, hickory, transplant and everyone is greening. Planted back in January and wasn't sure about it. Still waiting on my Mulberry and Chestnut. Getting late.
  3. We have it. Seems to like lighter acid soils better the way it grows here, but I could be wrong on that. Doesn't spread all that well either, at least in this area. The other thing that seems strange, the berries hang there, sometimes all winter into the next spring, nothing eats them. Don't think ours has thorns. 4. Congrats on the harvest. Nice bird and a great choice of weapons used.
  5. Gotta say that's the oldest bird I've seen takened out of the wild too. Congrats on a very special harvest. It's hard to believe, that turkey could go through 8 seasons, and still be in such good shape. Must have some great habitat where you got him. Are you thinking of a full mount?
  6. Lets face facts. In the real world, their are always going to be different types of people with different beliefs. People are going to believe in what they can except in their own minds and what makes them comfortable. I will give people the respect in their way of thinking, if they will return that respect in mine. These days, it's getting tougher to even feel someone out, without stepping on their toes. Really doesn't even matter the subject content. Hunting is always going to be a sore subject with some people. We as hunters, have to stand united, and strongly believe in our effort, for we'll never fall in our quest.
  7. I believe that other states have excepted the fact that the wild hog is going to be with them, being the numbers have exploded, so why not hunt them as a game animal and generate revenue. Seem to be a good control measure, not just on the animal, but on the hunter too. New Yorks numbers are still rather low, and their approach to eliminate them is still within reach. Come the day, hopefully we never see it, that hog numbers in NY ever explode, I'm sure you're see the same as CA. is doing. I just would like to see an official stance in the hunting guide.Something to go by, if indeed it is such a problem, as they say it is.. Like they did with CWD.
  8. Guess that little kitty didn't get them, opps bobcat lol. Now get better, so you can get there and make the harvest.
  9. Thanks Doc for bring this up. California is open all year for wild pig hunting. Their issue unlimited tags but, do charge a fee of $ 21.34/ tag. They have the most problem in the San Diego river water shed areas where a large part of the harvest takes place. Compare to some of the other states, like Texas, they don't seem to have that large of a harvest number, only a few thousand. They do have to follow all big game laws when hunting hogs. Every weapon can be used except crossbows. Now my question. Can their be hog poaching in New York, if no season, no limit, no tag, no fee, any weapon permitted? No rules spelled out in the hunting guide. I realize everyday law abiding rules apply. Maybe NY should be careful on the phrasing of their press releases and take the proper steps for control, and more important, hunter regulations. Maybe CA is on the ball with this one.
  10. Walking up from hunting the last couple days, I noticed a lot of worms and grubs that have surfaced because of the wet weather. I'm sure the range they are traveling for food is cut way back. Easy pickens for turkeys right now. Things sure have quiet down in the harvest department since last week across the state. That may be because hunter numbers have dropped too.
  11. Been hunting the Tonawanda Creek area, along with eastern side of county. Pretty much the same story you describe. Theirs been a few birds takened, but Toms seem to be already educated with very little gobbling. Don't quite know what to make of it. Trying different calling decoy techniques.
  12. Cool pics. Definitely looks mature. Can you hunt or trap them, when in season there?
  13. A repeat of May 2011. So much for the corn seed planted. Fields half under water this morning.
  14. Ya, it's a modern way of hunt'in them turkeys. The Redneck way. Maybe read it on some forum, lol. Honestly though, first time ever heard of it. Of coarse, people do some strange things sometimes.
  15. A year like this call for unique strategies.
  16. Great to see everyone enjoying the season. Some really nice birds being harvested.
  17. Congrats, bet you're passing out the cigars. Couldn't think of a better way to start opening day. Enjoy!
  18. That's one vocal bird. The rain effect with the gobbling really adds to the interview.
  19. Congrats to the bird harvests. Nice 24 lb bird stubbz. That is huge. Seen the pics on other thread.
  20. Got some decent body weight, nice looking fans, and long beards, congrats.
